It was a lot more than that. That was just one aspect that I couldn't stand. Button grappling was probably the biggest issue. Even with the alt scheme. Didn't like the controls. Didn't like the way the ground felt like it slowed to a crawl compared to the striking. Etc. Lots of reasons.

Nah, I have played many times EA MMA. I have a package now. I just said the submission system as button smashing and x-ray effect, not the whole game.Comment

EA MMA had some good feature but in general? It wasn't that great of a game.Comment

Re: Never played EA MMA on ps3, but Submissions do look awsome
I suppose you are sort of right on that x-ray effect. It could get old after a while, but there can always be a toggle option in those things. The camera zoom ins etc. in such submissions, i don't really have a problem with.
Some people want to play the game as if they are spectating a TV brodcast, some others want to be immersed.
Toggling it as an option, wouldn't be a hard thing to do.
From my experience, there are plenty of Camera modes in Fifa, broadcast and other wide unrealistic angles are some of the choices.
When there is a penalty, free kick etc. the camera changes and goes 3rd person to the guy taking them and also has an arrow indicating the direction of the ball. I don't see anyone complain that it takes away from the immersion by adding stuff like that.
It's their game at the end of the day, they can decide it's direction, but it would be a cool feuture, in choosing between a broadcast mode and an immersive mode.
Currently we do have Grapple Assist Hud on and off option.Comment

Re: Never played EA MMA on ps3, but Submissions do look awsome
X-Ray --- OK that was a bit over the top
But I definitely feel as if the 'black out' part of the sub game led to *more immersion* !! ... sure, it isn't realistic if you're going for the TV Broadcast point of view...
but for me at least, the true immersion from this game isn't the ads on the octagon or Rogan and Goldberg...
it's FIGHTING TO THE DEATH IN A CAGE
So when I'm about to lose conciousness...and things start to black out...that leads to more of a panic response, that you better control and overcome, or you're done for!...that's immersion
But yea the X-ray thing I can understand, gimmicky, hahaha but I don't really think there were too many other gimmicks or arcadey features in EA MMA...that we're not still dealing with, at least lol
(I do like grappling w/ the stick vs. buttons; for sure; but I also prefer STRIKING using the sticks....much more nuanced and less button mashing friendly)PSN: Boiler569

Re: Never played EA MMA on ps3, but Submissions do look awsome
How when it went from the broadcast point of view to the fighter's? That is my point. If we are going to see the fighter's point of view during the sub, then that is what I want to see all the time. That is where it breaks down. I would love a first person view like I've said. However, it is likely too hard to do because of the ground game.I definitely feel as if the 'black out' part of the sub game led to *more immersion* !! ... sure, it isn't realistic if you're going for the TV Broadcast point of view...

Re: Never played EA MMA on ps3, but Submissions do look awsome
idk about you...but when I'm fighting, especially online, my 'point of view' is as if I'm the fighter I'm controlling, not a spectator
Of course, it doesn't LOOK that way, unless I'm having an out of body experience
But I'm 110% focused-in on the fight, as if I were in the octagon (as nerdy as that sounds hahaha) --- and in the end the 'blackout' factor immerses me more in the gameplay.
I felt a lot more panicked when the screen was nearly black and I was about to tap....as compared to how I feel in this game.
Not that I don't feel panicked when an opponent has just one or two more gates to go to lock it in
But, hard to explain, I just felt MORE connected to the struggle when the screen blackened. Just my opinion I guess
Oh hell yea I'd love a 1st person game hahaha
then again...I remember specifically when I was about 10 years old...let's say '95...playing Madden, and thinking they will DEFINITELY have virtual reality / 1st person Madden *NO LATER THAN* Madden 2007.
Easier said than done / imagined lolPSN: Boiler569

Re: Never played EA MMA on ps3, but Submissions do look awsome
The chokes were tons of fun because they were almost entirely skill based, but the joint subs were 100% stat based. Any character that had less than 90 arm/leg sub was not going to submit anybody, no matter how little stamina the opponent had.Comment

Re: Never played EA MMA on ps3, but Submissions do look awsome
EA MMA I thought was great as far as a proof of concept that EA could make an awesome UFC game if given the license. I was really excited for an EA Mma 2 or even better ea ufc, but ufc 1 ended up going a whole different route.Comment

I played EA mma but i was never really a fan of that game or the whole sub system. Maybe it's me but i really do love to sub system on UFC 1 and 2.
To me the best mma games hands down are UD3 and UFC 2. Nothing else comes close.Comment

Re: Never played EA MMA on ps3, but Submissions do look awsome
I agree, but i am gonna also have to point out that UFC 2 doesn't even compare or come close to UD3 and that came 4-5 years ago.
EA UFC 1 comes close to EA UFC 2, because the little things it had for it, they worked fine and i had overall more fun than what i am having with EA UFC 2. EA UFC 2's stand-up is plane and simple broken and the poor matchmaking with it's delay is also ruining the grappling advantage on clinch/ground game, making that broken as well.
To be fair, putting EA UFC 2 next to UD3 is like putting Fifa 2016 next to PES 2012 and that's not a good measurement to take at all..
They are on a different league and the point you make about nothing else coming close to EA UFC 2, it's not suprising really, it's the only MMA game on the next gen and on the last 2 years(pretty much 4 years, since EA UFC 1 is it's predacessor and it also didn't have anything to compete) so the visuals and the physics alone should earn that for it, but the fun factor and the longevity of it, just isn't there.
It's not like there are tons of MMA games out there to say my top 2 MMA games are these.Last edited by manliest_Man; 07-30-2016, 03:38 PM.Comment
