Good to see that they will indeed save game-to-game. Like I said in the other thread, I really hope this can pave the way for more personnel features like custom packages. Also they definitely need to find a way to make customs be available in CFM and hopefully that will be the next logical step with this.

Just to add to this, hopefully this is something that is on the radar as well. It would be especially helpful in online CFM's but letting users be aware of exactly what personnel will be lining up should be essential with formation subs back.

Nevermind I see the position restrictions. Still the WR at HB is so rare it's not that big of a deal. I am one of Madden's biggest critics but you guys are tripping on this issue

For me is not just about it being rare but that I don't know why anyone expected formation subs in a CFM menu to override current position restrictions, especially since in game formation subs that have been available in the play calling screen never have, as far as I know. Seems to me, there are other issues that would need to be addressed before legacy position restrictions could be lifted across the board.

I don't want to be premature because the game isn't out yet but it seems to me they have taken the existing formation subs feature that has always been there and allowed it to be accessed in a CFM team management menu, which I think is a good thing. My previous confusion and frustration with formation subs, stemmed from it already being in the game but only accessible in the play calling menu while playing a game, not outside a game in team management. For me, the position restrictions have always been a separate issue, for example Madden has always had a depth chart but we can't put a WR at HB there, so it makes sense that formation subs wouldn't allow it.

To be clear, I understand why anyone would want position restrictions lifted, I'm only saying that's a separate issue from formation subs.

Cheese isn't a big deal. This is limited to CFM so I don't see how that would be a big deal.

And people dismissing this is silly. This restrictions are really dumb.

I would imagine that they are still not completely confident with the gameplay/A.I. of the game yet to lift all position restrictions from the depth chart and formation sub menu. Full positional freedom should be something that they aspire to ultimately.

I could see why it would be restricted in online play now but a CFM league can manage cheesers and people who exploit the game. No reason to have restrictions there.

Here's what I'm asking though, seeing as those restrictions have been in place even for offline play prior to this CFM formation subs menu, why should adding it change that?

Again, I agree that position restrictions should be addressed and that there should at least be somehow to disable those restrictions for offline play but that's a separate issue from formation subs.

There are a lot of teams that do this...Minnesota used Patterson at HB a lot two years ago and the Niners have been known to throw Ellington in the backfield as well...Regardless of who does it, or how much it is done, the fact of the matter is, if players were assigned multiple positions (think NBA 2K and SG/SF) the ability to use those players in sub packages would be possible.

The problem is that means this is an incomplete formation subs feature and to be quite frank is kind of ridiculous. Putting a WR at HB should be a basic function in formation subs.

The limitations severely hinder the resource that it can be. It essentially makes the feature pointless for me.
