    On the Fence!

I appreciate there is an impressions thread, which is fantastic to get bits and pieces of info from. Also the Q&A thread as well which also helps on occasions.

However this thread is to discuss why you (maybe) still sat on the fence as to whether to purchase this game now or not.

Im one of those guys right now. Every year I normally invest in 3/4 annual sports franchises, from Madden to MLB to Football Manager etc... some I look back on with regret, others ive plied hours into and not even thought any more of it.

This year though, im being a bit more frugal (of mind) and really want to ensure that I get the right games for me and not just get sucked into the early release hype, only to see the game sat on my PS4 collecting 'digital' dust.

As a CFM guy, I play solo, offline only. Im still looking on for some solid views and reviews of situations. I dont expect miracles from last year, but every little helps. On top of that, gameplay is obviously key and some of the impressions go from great to bad.... with the overall feel that the commentary/presentation upgrade is papering over some cracks that the game has.

So if you are on the fence, whats going to get you off it and which side will you get off on?

For me, it has to be something CFM related that will put a smile on my face, you know that little special thing that makes you think.. yeah, fancy a bit of that myself.

Need things to hurry up though, the Mrs wont want to be pulling all these splinters out of my rear if I stay up here too long

Same boat for me too, I only play offline franchise mode.
After reading everything on here i don't need to start a thread to convince me to buy it.
I will be playing tonight at Midnight!

If you're a offline CFM guy this is a must buy, they did a great job this year finally making it feel like the NFL experience we see every Sunday.

Offline cfm here as well....I finished a full 16 game season over 3 trials this weekend....,one of my absolute favorite things is the score ticker nearing the end of the season, I was in a huge battle with about 6 other teams trying to squeeze in to a wild card slot, and being able to scoreboard watch as I played was so amazing because of the lack of this small detail all these years. It was very immersive. Add on they showed the playoff race pop up before the game and some contextual commentary at the end if these games, it felt really good....I missed the playoffs by the way with buffalo at 9-7 due to the Bengals having the tie breaker on me...another huge thing during the year is hearing things like, Tyrod Taylor runs in for the touchdown giving him 18 total on the year and Jerry Hughes with his 11th sack if the season and his second today.....those things make your cfm alive....the constant update of compiled stats with in the commentary....bravo ea, bravo

I borrowed my brother's 360 and bought NCAA 14. I haven't played this game in 3 yrs. I played it for about a week and that was enough...lol The graphics are so dated from what I'm used to seeing from the ps4. You don't realize how much the graphics have improved until you go back.

Anyway, I thought I would not be buying madden this year, but caved as usual.

Maybe this year I'll be pleasantly surprised, not that last years game was bad.

                    Re: On the Fence!

** disclaimer *** this is all my personal opinion *** only looking to help ***

I am an offline only CFM player as well. I can tell you that, IMO, this one is by far and away the deepest Madden yet. (something they promise every year and never deliver on.)

I have played close to 10 hours of strictly offline CFM. I have finished one complete preseason, and have restarted in to my official one. The first was just to test everything out and see how it played. I also forgot to load up the latest rosters, so Fitzpatrick was a free agent who ended up signing with Cleveland. I didn't like that so I wanted to restart with proper rosters.

The little details have added up to a much better gameplay experience as a whole. Having a practice squad to develop some younger guys is a nice touch. Being able to keep the younger guys that I would have otherwise had to cut, is very satisfying. Granted it's risky as computer controlled teams will steal guys if they can use them. But it's also nice to pluck a guy off an opponents practice squad to fill a hole that was needed. (Baltimore put ROLB Z'Darius Smith on the practice squad (72 OVR) and I was able to sign him away and he was a starter for me, after I changed him to a LE.)

I also think that the improvements made to the running game are a very welcome addition as well. The ability to have more control over the moves you make (now you can use precision moves or speed moves), makes running much more satisfying. It feels good to have a RB like Henry and get 1 on 1 with a safety and be able to absolutely truck the guy on your way to a big gain.

The passing game seems to be about the same as last year, with the exception that the Aggressive catch issues have been toned down.

The enhancements made to the kicking game are nice as well. You can now choose your type of punt. For instance, you can do a normal punt, you can choose to put backspin on the ball, or you can choose to 'sky' the punt. Again, little details that help add so much to the game. Kicking/Punting is also waaaaay harder this year. 50+ FGs are no longer automatic. Punts out of bounds inside the 5 are not automatic either. I have yet to block a kick or a punt, but it's supposedly much more of a possibility this year.

With that said, the game does have it's flaws, but I think most of those can be fixed with a patch and will be fixed day 1. (specifically the glitch where you can tell if your opponent is running or passing before the snap based on what names show up.) There aren't any big glaring problems (outside of the previously mentioned) that would keep me from picking up this game.

In my opinion it really feels like a totally different Madden. It finally feels like a next gen version of the game. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone, and I can't wait to get back to my franchise! Hope this helps!

I've been on the fence as well but after watching all weekend with the Broadcast, I'm buying. Reason for my purchase, I'm a offline CFM guy. This year from broadcasts that I've seen, I feel like I can actually call defense plays and build a great defense. The draft is SO deep and in-depth that traits actually matter. You scout and sign free agents to fit into your scheme. Again this goes back to defense actually matters now. Just my 2 cents.

Gameplay has improved in M17 and that's all I'm gonna say on that topic.

Whether this years CFM is good or not depends on what you compare it to. If you compare it to the CFM in M16, it's slightly better because of autosubs and the practice squad, but other than that it's pretty much exactly the same. In fact I'd say it's worse in a few areas as well. If you compare it to other franchise modes in other sports games (you mentioned FM which I play a lot), Madden is still the ugly, unrealistic, arcade brother of the much much better simulation career modes in FIFA and NHL (just to name two) which actually try to be based on real life. I really struggle to get immersed in the Madden CFM mode because it feels like the game tries it's best to break that immersion at every corner. Sure, practice squad is nice, but when you can't even get the cut days correct, which affects the practice squad as well, the improvement is reduced.

I would say that if you enjoyed CFM in Madden 16, you'll probably like the CFM in M17 as well. If you didn't like it, you're not gonna like this year's version either. It's as simple as that really.

Here are my impressions after about 3 hours of offline CFM (I ONLY play offline CFM in every Madden the last 6 years so I feel like I know what to look for and what ruins it for me) so you can take a look at that if you're still on the fence.
