Madden is Now Deeper But More Accessible Than Ever

Madden NFL 17 is sure to bring much debate about the direction of the series, but let there be no doubt the game has certainly planted itself as a serious contender for more casual football fans' hearts.

This year, Madden has added several new features that basically hold any newer user’s hand to virtual pay dirt. From the way the new auto-running moves function to the continued increase of on-screen feedback, Madden is working very hard to win over new fans' hearts while simultaneously deepening the love from existing fans with more and more simulation depth.

Pretty certain that the majority of OSers arent the casual fans, just jumping into Madden. Maybe I'm wrong? But if I not, then who exactly is this article for? I honestly thought the writer would talk about some of the deeper aspects of the game. This article was definitely not for me.

I'm getting so much out of the skills trainer about reading plays and I've played Madden and watched football for decades.

Every sports game needs stuff like this.

There is nothing wrong having a casual option for fans young and old. New fans also will flock to OS.

Not everyone can be a hardcore simmer. Sometimes life happens. I appreciate the new Madden moments. I also want to get deep into a campaign and I don't have time to grind like I used to.

My biggest problem with Madden is just having so much downtime between plays, especially on defense when you have no control over the snap. It works when I'm watching football and I can let my attention drift, but having to sit there and stare at the screen for 15-20 seconds just to run a play that takes anywhere from 1 to 5 seconds....I don't know, I guess I'm just too impatient, I know it's a petty gripe. I can play PES or 2k and the action is virtually non-stop, I love it.

I've also never found defense to be particularly fun, so it's like 1/3 of the time I'm playing the game where I'm actually enjoying it at all.

I would agree gameplay wise, but completely disagree with this for CFM/Franchise. Every abstraction in CFM is an arcade abstraction not a realism/sim abstraction. CFM is more accessible for new users, but complete arcade for CFM/Franchise.

You're in luck then, because this year there's a "Play Offense Only" option. I haven't tried it yet, but it might be up your alley.

This time of year I see OS mentioned on a lot of message boards when Madden is coming out. I'm sure quite a few casuals see it & find their way here, even if it's only to browse & not to post.
