    AI Can't Stop Short Routes?

Have yet to see a drag route stopped by the AI. They just let it run wide open and it's a minimum of 5 yards every single time. Any fix to his? Hard to play with a house rule of don't have any drag routes in your play. Lol

This will help but not totally fix.
    1. Play all madden
    2. Crank speed threshold up(I play on 100)
    3. Crank pass block down(I play on 15)
    4. Crank CPU coverage up(I play at 60)

Basically at pass block at 15 it limits the time to let drag routes develop. You have to make quick decisions.

Also I like threshold at 100. I understand the point of having speed matter but it just really makes the game too easy IMO at less than 100. People will tell you that at 100 you will see lineman run down speedy receivers but I honestly haven't seen that. I still have running backs breaking big runs.

I know it's unlikely but could it be part of their strategy? When I play online I protect intermediate to deep first and wanna rally to make quick tackles on short routes. Then every once in a while I'll sprinkle in a hard flat call and usually get a pick bc my opponent is just expecting it to be open.

I don't really use drag routes much.

However, I feel the underneath passing game was way to risky vs reward in M16 and to some degree M15 as well. Too many slants / curls / stick /hitch routes being jumped for INT's vs the small reward of the pass, meaning I almost strictly threw intermediate and deep.

In M17 I feel the balance is better and my pass distribution is much more like the actual NFL where the majority of passes are <10 yards from LOS. I am quite comfortable throwing a curl now whereas in M16 those routes were death vs the CPU (not in an absolute sense, but vs. the relatively small reward...).

I think the balance is better. The shorter routes are more often incomplete due to contact etc rather than ints.

No nfl team prioritizes defending two yard passes. I have lost yards on drags but usually they gain me something but not much. Depends on your settings.

I've played games where I throw only to the drag route. I score on every drive because there is way too much cushion between the LB's and the WR. Human players can counter this by toggling underneath coverage. But the cpu does nothing to stop it.

This is why I get killed online being that I play only on the line.

Well I have, even with it on 50.

My last game Todd Gurley broke free on a long run on the first play of the game. my 72 speed 300lb DT comes from no where and chases him down from behind 50 yards downfield. its an absolute joke.

That was the last straw for me, I've lowered it to 30 now. Making the players have very little speed difference is good for game balance vs the CPU but its not good for realism - which is what matters more to me.

It's not new though imo. It's something users have been able to do against the cpu for as long as I can remember. Part of what makes the game stale year after year. You can always fall back on this whenever you need a score vs the ai.

Should have an option to have LB's play underneath like the safeties.

This is really why I decided to switch to CPU playcalling when I play my games. I don't like knowing I can just call a drag route on all third and medium plays and get the first down almost every time.

are you on ps-4 ? I am working on custom defensive pb's for:

                          4-3 - 3-4 - and multiple fronts

and if you edit the playbooks - you can remedy this issue. check the "everything playbooks" thread. And we should remember that the early-2000s' Raiders and the 2013 Broncos did those short route combos and they got to the SB .... And then both got SMASHED by a great Defense.

I get what your saying but the realism argument doesn't work for me. At 50 the amount of scoring and big plays was anything but realistic. Julio Jones had 5 tds and 400 yards in one game because he could outrun coverage every time on fly routes. I've broken 70 yard tds with slow Frank gore at 100 threshold. Ultimately I guess it's what you'd prefer. At 50 I didn't have a single game I didn't score 40 and just ridiculously elevated yardage numbers. To me that's not realistic either.

stop drags? Man coverage shade inside? any hook zone, coverage audible play underneath?
