    AlTito's NHL 17 Sliders

    Hi again everyone!

Below are the sliders I use right now in NHL 17. With all the new sliders available this year and their 0-100 values, it gives us a lot of options to tune the game exactly the way we want it to play. I will be making tweaks while I continue playing and I will try to keep this post as updated as possible to reflect the changes I make. Latest updates will also be shown at the bottom of this post to make it easier to follow.

I tried to get a good mix of fun and realism, with a sloppy gameplay and a lot of loose pucks. Like every year, according to your skill level, you can play on All-Star or Superstar difficulties. If it becomes too easy, you may also increase CPU Difficulty Adjustment by a few clicks. You can play the game on 6 to 8 minutes periods (I suggest you to play 8 minutes if you want to get more realistic stats).

And don't be afraid to adjust things to your liking or needs, these sliders are only there as a base. Have fun!

Note: I suggest you to raise puck control for both Human and CPU before the beginning of a shootout.

Sliders look real solid. At a quick glance I would say it's similar to what I have been testing. Gunna plug these in later and give them a try. The slider for example that's for size and speed effecting body checks, does 35 mean size/speed matters more than they would at say 75 or less.

      Re: AlTito's NHL 17 Sliders

The higher the value for the Checking Size Effect and Speed Effect, the more size and speed matter. I already increased them from their default values (25 to 35 for Size, 33 to 35 for Speed), but I don't want to increase values too drastically at a time, I go progressively when I don't see anything wrong with it. For example, what fears me a little bit about the Size Effect slider is that I want bigger guys to be solid, but I don't want them to become invincible either. It's always a bit touchy. I will continue testing these sliders in the future and chances are good that these values will still be increased progressively.

Thanks man been waiting for these I seem to always your starting sliders as a base and gradually adjust things as I play more games. I went and jacked up a bunch of the penalties to see if the sliders worked and they do. I had 14 pps against Buffalo in the season opener, I'm going to start toning them down a little bit I think lol

LOL good to know man, I actually played my season opener against Buffalo tonight too! A 4-2 win in which there were 4 penalties total, 2 for both teams. So, I will still have to work on penalties sliders, trying to get a bit more. However, I don't think I will try jacking it up as much as you, because 14 PPs is a bit too much for my liking loll. Keep me informed of your future tests with penalties if you are able to find a good mix on your side.

Man, these are so much different than mine. Lol

I had to nerf my goalies a bit as they were constantly being o outperformed by the cpu and my penalty sliders are also much higher,, nearly maxed across the board and I'm seeing 6-8 calls per game.

Question: I'm not very happy with goal variety for myself as it seems the one timer has been made overly difficult. Having terrible getting any decent cycle going down low and skill goals are extremely hard to come by. How has that been for you guy's?

Played a game with these last night and it was by far the most fun I've had playing the NHL series since '11 so first off I wanted to say thank you!

I honestly wasn't even paying attention to how the sliders were functioning because I was having so much fun! I'll get some more games in over the weekend and try to give some feedback

I scored many goals on one timers on Wednesday when I first got the game, I really had no problem with it at that time, I remember especially one with Malkin on one knee in the high slot which was great. I lowered passing quite a bit since then to make the game sloppier. Right now, one timers are really difficult, so I may still increase Pass Assist or Pass Reception Ease a bit. However, we have to say that beautiful one timer goals are not happening often in real life either. Most of the goals scored in today's NHL are on screened shots, deflections or rebounds, so we have to take that into account. Getting a good mix of fun and realism is not always an easy task.

I played a game on 10 minute periods last night with these and there were 7 penalties total. I ended up losing 5-2 to Chicago playing as St Louis. My first goal was a slapshot from the blue line through lots of traffic in front of the net. My second came on a partial breakaway where I lost the puck then regained the puck and beat Crawford 5-hole.

From what I can remember, the CPU scored on an awesome deflection (puck was on the ice and someone deflected it up), a near empty-netter after I misplayed the puck with Allen, a wrister from the slot, and two rebounds.

Solid variety and a super fun game! On a side note, has anyone else noticed the goalies being much more aggressive when their team is on the PP as far as playing the puck and helping corral clears? Pretty cool to see them behave more like real-life goalies in this situation instead of just sitting in their goal.

Agree. So far I'm pretty happy with my sliders and this has gotten a bit better...only after tinkering with slider combinations. When I get the full version, I'm going to make one timers easy as possible and then scale back from there to find the right balance. Same with deking...the NHL is a skill league too; it needs to be present and not just a slop show bc we finally can. Lol

After installing the patch, the game seems to play a bit differently and I'm not sure it's for the better. Will have to play more to really comment.

I updated the first post to add the two new sliders available, Min Pass Speed and Max Pass Speed (both replacing one other slider: Pass Speed).

I also made a few minor tweaks: Stumble Threshold to 80 (from 75), Incidental Contact Effet to 70 (from 65), CPU Penalties to 70 (from 60) and CPU Teammate Penalties to 50 (from 45).

I played a couple of exhibition games and the second game of my franchise. After that, I can say that the game is indeed a bit different after the patch, but fortunately, it's still great, I love NHL 17 so far.

In fact, I had a real blast in my franchise game, so much fun. I won 2-1 against Ottawa. On 8 minutes periods, shots were 25-24 for me, time on attack 6:17 to 5:58 for them, pretty even game. There were still only 4 penalties total though, 2 for each side, so I'll have to increase it again.

I will update the first post with some changes. Board Effect Non-Puck Carrier to 60 (from 65), Board Effect Puck Carrier to 60 (from 65). I will also increase mostly all penalties sliders by 10 clicks and see if it's enough.

I've been getting anywhere from 3-5 penalties per team I have CPU/ CPU teammate penalties both at 60 right now and I also bumped all the penalties that get called more frequently up to 60 for both CPU and human

Wow this is a ton of fun!!!

So first, I have it on Superstar with max CPU difficulty and Strategy. Then the only other changes I made was 20 minute periods, faceoff difficulty (down 5), and the puck cover sliders which I like so the goalies passes are as slow as possible and they cover the puck all the time.

The gameplay is unbelievable. The incidental contact and the contact with skates, sticks, bodies, etc is spot on. It looks and plays incredible. I'm sure there's some changes that can be made but I'm too much in awe of the gameplay to really say what can be changed yet.

The game I am playing is Caps @ Sharks (me). I dominated the first period and for the first time in this series had to switch up my styles of play when on the attack. There's times where I can still skate in 1 on 3 or 4 and shoot from the slot, but it's not nearly as much. I lead 2-1 after the 1st. The 2nd period was a bit opposite. The Caps controlled play for the most part. They got a couple PP's which they moved the puck around with purpose and realism. Not the ping pong stuff. Eventually the scored to tie it. They are now leading 3-2 as I'm about to get to the 3rd period.

What I also find awesome is the board battles. Pressing Y or Triangle is not what I'm talking about either. Due to the puck pickups, board contact, and other sliders you can muck it up in the corners a little bit. Guys lose the puck realistically. One thing I also thought was awesome is the Caps were on a 5 on 3. I dump the puck down and line change. I believe it was Niskanen who picked the puck up in his own end and fired a pass to Oshie at the far blue line for a breakway because he caught me on the line change. Looked so awesome. For the most part 20 minute periods is working nicely. Maybe a bit too many penalties but that can be tuned. The shot totals are actually really good. 12-15 after 1 and 29 - 23 after 2. I think 15 minutes would be best but if I can somehow change a few things to get realistic results on 20 minutes that's what I will be playing. 15 will work just fine though too.

Overall unbelievable start Tito. Very very solid. I'll try and play as much as possible to provide feedback. I'm pretty busy these days so gaming time has gone down a bit, but right now I'm really liking this game so I may find time to play it when I can.

This is great to read bwiggy!

I actually lowered faceoff difficulty to 55 too this morning, since the CPU won most of them every game, so we now have that at the same value.

For the Goalie Cover Frequency and Passing sliders, what did you adjust exactly?

As for penalties, I increased all values by 10 clicks yesterday night, trying to get more penalties. I may have gone a bit too far though and maybe should have increased only by 5. Will have to play more to see.

I'm glad you are liking the game so far!
