Re: NBA 2K17 MyLEAGUE, MyLEAGUE Online & MyGM Blog With Erick Boenisch
You guys are really incredible. Every year you just rise above any expectations and gaming norms.
I wish there was a MYGM section in the blog, are there any new features or additions that are unique to MYGM?Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 MyLEAGUE, MyLEAGUE Online & MyGM Blog With Erick Boenisch
The same thing second round picks and a lot of draft-and-stash guys give--marginal assets with value to potentially serve as cheap role players/roster fillers or...rarely...something more.D-League went the way of the dodo mostly as a matter of ROI. Too much work to maintain and get working relatively right for minuscule returns. As part of trying to make Franchise as realistic as possible we'd want to have some of the features and benefits users would expect from D-League back, without actually having to implement the whole thing as a league, which I just don't see happening if we're going to keep innovating and doing so much stuff in a year as we've been doing now.
So, that's not to say D-League will never be back in full effect. But I'll say this as an NBA 2K gamer as much as a developer, if you want to see it return in some form or fashion, you're better off thinking outside the box, not as an all-or-nothing proposition. What are the things D-League would give you as a feature that you'd like to see implemented, even if there's not every D-League team there and a full separate league simulation?
There's a reason rebuilding teams use D-League players for their 10 day contracts and teams like the 76ers don't fill out the back end of their roster with also cheap, aging vets. D-Leaguers are unproven and there's always a chance (however minimum) to surprise with some NBA minutes.
Why do I bring this up? A problem with AAA sports video games (not so much text sims) is that players and ratings are largely static. If a player is rated 74 overall going into a season, that's what he is. Sure, he'll progress and regress over a career (and I know the team, including you personally with the training overhaul, has done great work here recently), but you know what you have. And as nice as the total-control player training is, I wonder if it's a little too much control at times; it'd sure be nice to improve Ricky Rubio's shooting or a lot of players' defensive chops, but the NBA doesn't always work that way. Current development also doesn't allow for large swings in a rating over the course of a single season, as we've seen with guys like Boogie and Anthony Davis stretching their range.
Ben Simmons is a 79 in the game, never mind that he might start playing and turn out to be much better than that (like Towns last year). There are also plenty of players currently barely fit to be on a roster who will turn out to be key role players at season's end (maybe they finally acquired the defensive IQ to stay on the court, or developed a 3 point shot), and solid veterans who will regress so quickly their careers appear to be over.
This is the biggest thing that makes this excellent franchise mode get staler quicker than I'd like, and the D-League is a good representation of how to innovate and get it 'right'. It doesn't have to be an actual D-League simulation per se, just like we don't need a proper Euroleague simulation to provide the same level of depth with draft-and-stash. A more dynamic ratings system (optional of course, so that guys don't get cranky when their prized prospect or key role player turns out to be much worse than advertised) would finally give value to second round picks and end of the bench signings, as well as creating the ever-elusive 'draft bust'. Drafting a player in the top 5 and immediately knowing he is a 67 (and simply cutting/trading him) is not the same as wasting years on him only to never realize his potential.
I know I shouldn't have said so much, but this is what would make a D-League-esque pool of players important to me. I couldn't have cared less about the old implementation, just as I don't care about 2nd round picks or playing my fringe prospects in a rebuilding year. But everyone wants a chance to find the next Hassan Whiteside or Jeremy Lin, to invite players to our Summer League team and maybe unearth a hidden gem. I really think there's a lot of innovation potential here (no AAA game is doing this!), not to mention it's completely authentic to how the NBA unfolds. Not to mention how engaging this would make franchise mode over the years (come on, I even bolded all the words!!).
As a final note, I'm going to leave this here, the star-starter-bench-bust model of NBA prognostication. It's been a dream of mine for some time now to see something like this in a 2k game: http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/...a-draft-class/Comment

Can anyone confirm that a server-side save of MyLEAGUE (36 team rebrand for example) would become unavailable if servers were down?Master Collective, Ltd.

But, veterans do head down to the D League. Just look at Baron Davis and his comeback attempt from last season.I'd just take the ability to have 3-5 players in some sort of minor league system where you could have them work on specific areas to improve. Basically similar to an NFL Practice Squad or a glorified sim training area. Guys go in, select what you want them to improve, your "NBDL Coach" works with them on it. The NBDL coach could have attributes as well.
You could even implement some sort of restriction, like total NBA years played, so people wouldn't abuse it by putting Ray Allen or Steve Nash down there and treat it as some sort of AAA roster.
I would love the D League to be re-implemented even if only in text form. Give us the ability to edit the roster (making it more authentic) of the teams, but not able to play the games. That can be controlled by the CPU, but we can still set basic perimeters (rotation, minutes and scoring options).
This way young players aren't rotting on the end of the bench (not developing), FA's can actually "play" thus not regressing (as bad) and we can add missing undrafted FA's and D Leaguers (that could be called up, anyway).
The D League returning and a better, more robust CAP system are the two biggest needs in the series, IMO.
Aside from all the things I just said, I really appreciate all the hard work that is put into "franchise" mode year in and year out. I love that NBA nuts, gamers and NBA 2K fans are building, innovating and pushing this aspect forward yearly.
Can't wait to try out all the new features for MyLeague in NBA 2K17. Keep up the great work and know that we appreciate it, Leftos and SimBaller.

"For example, if you are playing a game with playoff implications that results in a lot of physical play (technicals), you can expect such a game to ratchet up the temperature with respect to the rival score"
Technical fouls are in this year?? Awesome

Was really hoping MyLeague online would mirror MyLeague offline, similar to how EA's Madden CF online and NCAA online dynasty mirror their offline options. However, it seems that is their goal and they are working towards that. So I can be patient, but until then I'll pass on the MyLeague online.Comment

I'm not much of a basketball guy, casually watching the Raptors, though most of their games during the playoffs.
But I did get into 2K16 more than I thought I would and all of these awesome things that have been added make it a must buy sports game, even for a guy like me.
It has even made me want to follow the real NBA more just because I want to know more about the teams and players.
2K keeps raising the bar for sports video games, which is great for all of us here on OS.Comment

Re: NBA 2K17 MyLEAGUE, MyLEAGUE Online & MyGM Blog With Erick Boenisch
A huge thank you to everyone involved in the MyLeague part of the game. That's 99% I spend on 2K so all this improvements really made me happy and anxious to have the game in my console.
I have a few questions tho:
1- how is the offseason structured? Is it still the separated phases with just a limited period to sign FAs or is it calendar based? The addition of offseason trading is just awesome BTW
2- in the past few years there has been a recurring bug: when controlling multiple teams, during the FA signing period, when a player accepts your offer, the choice you made (sign, decline, match offer etc) wouldn't carry over when you switched to another team. You know Leftos, we talked about this on Twitter before, is this finally resolved?
3- will there ever be a way to keep the rights of a drafted player without signing him? It's not necessarily an implementation of Euro Teams into MyLg, I know that would take a lot of work, but just a way to not lose a promising prospect if you already have a full roster but you will need him the following year, or be able to trade his rights (see Bogdan Bogdanovic trade this summer)
4- you introduced pick swaps and pick protections. That's great! Will the already existing ones be included by selecting to start a MyLg with real life trades?
5- advanced rotations, wow that's better than I could ever wish for! But how will this influence garbage time in-game and the playing time of bench warmers? Last year end-of-the-bench players occasionally had a 1-minute game, but that's not how it goes in the NBA, where non rotation guys will actually play some minutes every now and then, not just the last minute of an already 30 point game. Was this logic upgraded?
Thank you again so much!!Last edited by sniapeko; 09-09-2016, 11:22 PM.NBA 2K16 (XBOX ONE) 2016 Draft Class - Actual Drafted Players! (SIMWORLD compatible!) http://www.operationsports.com/forum...-xbox-one.htmlComment

Thanks for speaking with us.
What determines which players end up becoming coaches?
Is there a list that you use under the hood?
Can this be something we can assign to players in the future?Concrete evidence/videos pleaseComment

Re: NBA 2K17 MyLEAGUE, MyLEAGUE Online & MyGM Blog With Erick Boenisch
Leftos, I do have a few questions regarding MyLeague/MyGM mode:
1) Has the bug or issue been resolved with user-controlled teams not having visible shot charts?
It was a bit annoying to not be able to see show percentages when controlling a team.
2) Will progressive fatigue have a bigger effect throughout the duration of a season/post season/career?
Too many times (even off a back - to - back) the effects of playing big minutes wouldn't be seen throughout a season.
3) Will the simulation engine/CPU play closer to the actual minutes assigned to players?
It is/was maddeningly difficult to get the CPU to play Jimmy Butler, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Gordon Hayward and alike the minutes per game that they averaged in real life.
4) How has the "draw foul" attribute (it should also be a tendency in future iterations, IMO) been adjusted to more closely resemble or match real life numbers?
Even though Harden has a "99" rating he still struggles to get even 8 FTA per game in most simulations I've ran.

Re: NBA 2K17 MyLEAGUE, MyLEAGUE Online & MyGM Blog With Erick Boenisch
If you don't plan on giving us the D-League, at least allow for an option for us to, "Send to Development" any of our Young Players that are not able to see the floor for us. It can be an option from the "Roster" screen in MyLeague / MyGM. The same screen that has, "Trade / Release / Assign To Another Team."
Then we can send a scout to give the coaching staff reports that could include:
Game Stats (Each Game)
Mood / Feeling / Confidence
Rating fluctuations
Of the young player that was, "Sent to Development."
So we have SOMETHING to do with those players instead of just having them sit on the benchConcrete evidence/videos pleaseComment
