BREAKING NEWS: THE WASHINGTON REDSKINS ARE NO MORE
We are probably all too familiar with the controversy surrounding the Washington Redskins name and logo. It has been a debate for a number of years now, but it seems like the NFL has finally made a decision on the matter. According to reports from earlier this week, the NFL gave the team an ultimatum of changing the name and logo or face the consequences. Apparently the team chose the latter since it has just been confirmed to us that, after the 2015 season, the Washington Redskins will cease to exist and the spot will be given to an expansion team, the first since the Houston Texans entered the league in 2002.
The Washington Redskins have a rich history in the National Football League, beginning play in 1932. They moved to Washington, D. C. in 1937 and have more or less remained there since. The Redskins have captured five NFL Championships, two pre-merger and three Super Bowls, but they haven’t had much recent success in the league, only winning the NFC East twice since 1992 (in 1999 and 2012). It’ll be sad to see the team disappear like this and I’m sure the fans won’t be happy, but it’s also going to be exciting to see how the expansion team does.
Speaking of the expansion team, while nothing has been confirmed about it other than the fact that an expansion team will be given to a city to replace the Redskins and that they will begin play in 2016, there’s already a few rumors of what cities are on the shortlist for the expansion team. According to these reports, the front runners are Los Angeles and London, but the cities of Columbus, Mexico City, and Toronto are in the mix as well. The NFL released a statement saying that more information about the expansion team will come later once they figure out all the details.

Being a 20-year-old unemployed college student, I currently don’t have the money to pick up Madden NFL 17. I was okay with that, I’m patient enough, but after reading some of the franchises and dynasties on here, I got the itch to start my own. I figured that I could do a fun little Madden NFL 16 franchise while I wait to get 17, an “expansion” team franchise. I’m sure it won’t be great, but at least I’ll get practice for whenever I get Madden 17 and can do a franchise on that game.
Also, sorry to any Redskins fans on here, I just thought this would be an interesting storyline. Nothing against your team or anything.
