What I'm talking about is this:
Let's say I'm practicing offense. I'm running 4 verticals out of Shotgun with 3 WR. I want to work on recognizing coverages, so I choose "Random Play". In the last few iterations of Madden, I'd face everything from a Goal line defense to a Quarter defense. I really don't need to work "11" or "10" personnel against goal line defense, but I'd have to. Plus, it seemed like the "random" playcall would be a repeating cycle of 8-10 plays.
Now, I can finally choose "Random Nickel", "Random 4-3", or "Random Quarter" or "Random Goal line", and only face defenses within that personnel grouping/formation. I haven't checked to see if you can go random with other specifications yet, because I literally stopped playing immediately to post this thank you to the devs!
The next level I'd like to see within Skills Trainer is more sophisticated defensive drills with the new zone coverage techniques available in Madden.
Ex:1) Cover the correct guy as MLB in a 3 receiver hook vs. each of the following route concepts.
2) Now that you know how to execute the 3 Rec. hook, we're going to put it all together. Run plays will be mixed in so that you have to A) diagnose run or pass B) fill your run fit or cover the right man C) finish the play.
3) As the CB, cover the correct guy in a Soft Squat vs these route combos.
Etc.
I'd really like to see skill trainer get specific like this.
Skill Trainer is decent as is, but "Prevent a TD using Cover 3" doesn't really require you to learn assignments like my above example does.
