Auburn QB is putting up good numbers and TD's despite a very average WR group and an O-line that looks like the weak part of the team.

    Tulane win 35 - 21.

On paper the only real threat that stands out to me is their TE. Hopefully you can contain him G. Nice pick up on the QB also. Look forward to seeing what he does for you in a couple seasons. Good luck against Auburn.

Can't say I disagree. We look to have plenty advantages in this one. Their D does have some pieces though and could make things rough for our offense if we aren't on our 'A' game.

Yeah I noticed that regarding their QB. Let's hope he's due for some mistakes after such a hot start to the year.

We really need to get this offense on track and make that unit more "championship caliber." Hopefully that starts today.

Thanks brother...that tight end does look to be their main weapon on offense. We'll have to put a little extra attention on him.

I'm really pumped about landing this QB jimmy McBride. I like the idea of having a short, mobile QB a la Manziel/Russell Wilson; hopefully we can land that 6-6 WR Lee Bradley to go with him.

Thanks for the feedback all...time to get the game started!

My man (Said in the Denzel Washington voice)...I absolutely LOVE the storylines and writing. I know I say it everytime but your story telling ability is second to none. I love the side story with Carpenter and seeing you pull him for the game, absolutely love it.

A great win over a very good Miami team. I was not expecting to see their defense come out as strong as they did. I was happy to see Tompkins get out of your dog house. He is a guy I have always felt a little sorry for after his arrival was overshadowed by Deuce.

Nice job signing McBride. He looks like a very interesting prospect and one that could cause you to adjust your offense in the future. To go from a pocket passer like Allen to a scrambler again will be very interesting to watch.

Good luck against the Tigers this weekend. Looking at them on paper their strength is definitely in the Robinson-Wallace combo. They also have a pretty strong linebacking corp so getting to the second level will be key. Looking forward to it! Loving this as always my friend.

Appreciate the compliments as always bud - I am tired of not getting any injuries so I had to get a little creative there with Carpenter. Real life happens and I always try to make that a factor from time to time.

Haha...Yeah Tony Tompkins kind of got the screw job after much-hype after his acquisition. His fumbling issues haven't helped him though and as you'll read in a moment, they've once again re-surfaced. He also drops wide open passes. He's had a rough go so far, minus him getting his shine on in his hometown versus Miami.

Good observation on McBride - he will be a much different QB than Bryce. I'm excited to use a short-QB with decent speed. I plan to change my style of play somewhat when it is his turn to go under center and I plan to do things similar to how we did when I had Jimmy Williams at QB; we have a ways to go before then though - at my current rate of play, we're probably not going to get to see the Jimmy McBride Era for another 6+ months! LOL

The Auburn game was played by the time you replied but as you'll see in a moment, we had no issues with their offense. Those LBs surely gave us fits though. I am getting very concerned by our offense's lack of explosiveness. We really miss Ryan Jean and if we don't figure something out, we're going to get absolutely waxed by one of these teams sooner than later.

Game 5, Year 13 (2022 season): Auburn Tigers at #2 Tulane Green Wave

              NR 07 -- 3-1 (1-1)
              #2 35 -- 5-0 (2-0)

Tulane RB Buck Johnson III's 2-yard touchdown run made the score 16-0 before halftime and was the Green Wave offense's only touchdown of the day.

Tulane offense sputters, manages just 1 touchdown in 35-7 romp over Auburn | Defense scores two touchdowns and a safety while PK Coleman nails 4 field goals to send Wave to 5-0 record | Tulane offense gives up 4 sacks and turns the ball over 3 times | Team must correct errors with #24 Tennessee set to come to the Big Easy next week

New Orleans, LA -- On what was a dreadful day for its offense, the Tulane Green Wave got all but 6 of its points off turnovers on their way to clobbering over-matched Auburn 35-7 Saturday night at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The Green Wave defense scored two touchdowns of its own via fumble returns, got a safety, and got 3 interceptions which led to 13 more points as the team put up one of the most unorthodox 35-point performances in college football history.

CB Garrett Shuler and the Tulane defense collected 5 turnovers and put up 16 points of their own to help pick up the slack for the Wave's lackluster offense's performance.

The game got off to a poor start for Auburn (3-1). On the very first offensive possession of the game, Tigers QB Justin Robinson was picked off by Wave true freshman CB Tyler Harrison, leading to a 45-yard field goal by PK Chris Coleman that gave Tulane an early 3-0 lead. The interception was Harrison's first of his career and he returned the pick for a touchdown, however it was negated by a clipping penalty called on junior DE Jonathan Schwartz.

Later in the first half, already up 6-0, Tulane got another interception, this one by CB Garrett Shuler. The senior Alabama transfer's turnover would lead to a third field goal by Coleman, this one from 33 yards away, making the score 9-0.

The Tulane offense finally got the ball into the end zone later in the second quarter, but not without the aid of its defense. MLB Brent Browning's interception deep in Auburn territory was Robinson's third pick thrown on the evening. Robinson left the game at halftime due to a concussion suffered on the final play of the first half and was replaced by senior QB Clay Andrews.

Browning would return his interception to the Tigers' 24-yard line and it led to a 2-yard scoring plunge by senior RB Buck Johnson III that made the score 16-0 with just over two minutes to go in the half. Johnson III finished the evening with 46 rushing yards before being replaced in the fourth quarter when his team made substitutions across the board.

The Green Wave defense would cap off its dominating performance with back to back plays in the third and fourth quarters. First, Schultz would get redemption for his earlier touchdown-negating penalty, returning a fumble by Andrews 42 yards for a touchdown that made the score 26-7 on the last play of the third quarter.

Tulane had problems protecting QB Bryce Allen as the sophomore signal caller was sacked 4 times on the evening.
On the very next play from scrimmage for Auburn, the Wave defese would strike gold once more. This time FS LeCharles Smith Jr. stripped Tigers TE Ronald Ingram of the football after a short pass completion and Wave sophomore OLB Chuckie Coley recovered the ball and returned it 21 yards for a touchdown that made the score 33-7 with 8:48 remaining.

The Wave defense capped off its big evening by picking up a safety when Smith Jr. tackled Tigers WR Joe Farris in the end zone on an ill-advised jet sweep play from his team's own 1-yard line, making the score 35-7. Despite the stellar defensive performance and blowout win, Tulane head coach D. Geezy was less than ecstatic in his post game press conference.

"On one hand you're excited that you can overcome such a bad offensive performance and still win by 28, but on the other hand you know that you won't be able to keep up this sort of pace and remain unbeaten much longer," said Geezy of his offensive unit, which managed just 250 total yards and turned the ball over 3 times on the night.

"Make no mistake, the competition is just going to get better and better as the season moves along and not to look too far ahead, but if we think we are going to beat #1 Alabama in Tuscaloosa while scoring 1 touchdown, we have quite a wakeup call coming.

"We need to right this ship soon, especially with a good up-and-coming team coming to town here in seven days."

Tulane (5-0, 2-0) will host #24 Tennessee (4-0, 1-0) next week at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. The game will mark the first meeting between the two SEC cross-division foes since 2018, a game the Wave won 45-13 in Knoxville on their way to winning the second of two national championships under Geezy.

Notes: Tulane's 250 total offensive yards was its lowest output of the season thus far, failing to get over 300 yards for the first time this season...Starting Green Wave wide receivers Brandon McIntyre and Jason Mason had a horrific outing, finishing with 1 catch each for a grand total of 1 yard. It was the second straight poor performance by the two players, as McIntyre had just 2 catches in last week's win versus Miami while Mason was shutout...True freshman RB Tony Tompkins, who was reportedly in Geezy's doghouse prior to returning a kickoff for a touchdown in last week's victory versus Miami, found himself likely right back in his head coach's cross hairs after muffing a first half punt, which he recovered, and also dropping a wide open third down pass that likely would have gone for a big gain. Then, late in the game, he fumbled on a handoff as the team was attempting to run out the clock. He was replaced on punt returns by fellow true freshman RB Deuce Monroe for the second time this season due to fumbling issues, a move that may now become permanent.

Tigers QB Clay Andrews and OLB Matt Gore walk off the field with their heads hanging after their team lost to the Green Wave for a whopping 9th straight season.

RB Deuce Monroe finished with a team-high 6 receptions for 63 yards but, after a hot start to the season, was held out of the end zone for a third straight game.

Auburn QB Justin Robinson had a tough time navigating the Tulane defense, throwing for just 73 yards and 3 interceptions before leaving the game due to a concussion just before halftime.

MLB Brent Browning's second quarter interception helped set up Tulane offense's only touchdown of the evening, giving his team the ball already deep in Auburn territory.

QB Bryce Allen faced immense pressure all game long. This sack by Auburn MLB Carlos Hopkins was one of 4 on the day by the Tigers defense.

TE Steven Carpenter finished with 5 receptions for 57 yards in his return from "paternity leave."

True freshman RB Deuce Monroe was stripped of the football on the very first play of the second half, and it resulted in the Auburn offense getting its only score of the day just a few plays later.

Tulane sophomore OLB Chuckie Coley's 21-yard fumble return touchdown put the game away, making the score 33-7 early in the fourth quarter.

Offense only with 1 score. They need to start staying late after practice and get things together. Defense is playing lights out as usual

The defense looked great, but the offense needs to step it up in order to truly be a contender.

The offense struggled, but they are still climbing the mountain trying to find themselves. They aren't supposed to be firing on all cylinders quite yet, there is still time. That defense though!!! Teams will have to almost have a perfect game to beat yall. Good luck against the Vols!

I am surprised your defense even allowed the offensive players to be in the same locker room as them after that one. Ugly game for the offensive unit and lots of red flags being raised. I am concerned about the lack of production from the wide receiver position. I mean I expected a drop off from Jean. You don't just replace production like that, but these guys for being as highly touted as they were have got to stretch the field a little more. Your west coast attack in my mind relies a lot on opening the underneath stuff to make room for guys like Deuce but that is tough to do if no one fears your receivers down the field. Nothing really needs to be said about Tompkins...he is a liability right now.

On happier notes though, the defense looks to be in mid season form and firing on all cylinders. Did the Auburn quarterback forget what color jersey he was wearing ha! I think Tennessee is coming right when you need them to, the team needs a tougher foe in preparation of warming up to Alabama, or even more imminently Arkansas.

                        Loving this as always!

Interested to see how you incorporate Jimmy McBride, in due time, into the offense given his style and this offense. Doesn't seem like a natural fit.

I do have a confession though now that you've mentioned practice - I haven't been doing practice mode in between games as much during the week lately as I had been, so maybe that is playing a role in our struggles. I need to find away to get some more practice time in but real life has just been very busy. I'd like to try to incorporate a few new elements to the offense to try to get a spark, perhaps maybe some wildcat stuff.

Yeah I think if our 'O' keeps having duds like this, we are going to get beat sooner than later. Our defense isn't going to be able to shut EVERYBODY down, as we saw versus a very good Miami squad.

I sure hope you're right in that this is just growing pains of a natural progression. I'd say the most disappointing part of the offense has been QB play. Yeah yeah, I know it is mostly user-controlled, but Bryce Allen is also missing wide open targets at times. We are also experiencing drops and many of the mistakes can also be attributed to being hit while throwing. We just can't seem to get fully in-sync for some reason.

It is nice to know that, between defense and special teams, we still have a darn good shot to beat anyone when our offense isn't clicking though.

Without question Brandon McIntyre and Jason Mason have disappointed the past couple of weeks. Outside of one reception on a bubble screen by McIntyre versus Miami that went for a 50+ yard gain, they have done NOTHING. I plan to try to get them both involved early versus Tennessee and attempt to remedy this issue because you're right, the short stuff won't work as well if the vertical stuff isn't.

Tompkins has really been a disappointment with the fumbles and drops. He clearly is showing some play-making ability, but you're right, he is a liability right now. I'm going to continue to try to get him chances however. His rushing average this past game was encouraging, even though it came in garbage time. We need to get him ready because he is in line for a much more involved role after Buck Johnson III departs.

I am dreading the Arkansas and Alabama games at the moment. I don't feel like we are ready at all.

Yeah he is definitely a different type of QB than what I have been used to. I want to try to scramble a little more with my QB and he seems to fit the bill. I have some ideas in mind on how we can tailor the offense to fit a QB like him, but that's quite a ways away. #nospoilers

Haha, yeah you were spot-on there. Definitely thought the 'O' would show out more. Hopefully I can get my boy Deuce into the end zone again soon.

Thanks fellas...as always, I appreciate you guys taking out time to read and provide great feedback!

Just caught up on the Auburn win Geezy. Nice seeing when the offense is down the defense sees it's not going on all cylinders and steps up and wins the game for you guys. Wasn't the prettiest of wins but you did get the blow out finally. Hopefully between now and the Tennessee game you guys can right the ship on offense and get this thing popping off on all cylinders at the same time. Will be concerning if the offense comes out with another performance against the Vols like they did against Auburn. Good luck
