    Mountain West Conference Championship
#3 Idaho Vandals vs. #9 Boise State Broncos - Falcon Stadium - Colorado Springs, CO

Multiple birds can be killed with one "stone" in MW Championship Game

Boise State and Idaho each enter the conference championship arena with one loss.
The stakes are higher for Idaho. There is some chance they could get into the BCS
Championship game with a win, whereas for Boise State, in all likelihood they cannot
climb from #9 to the top two by beating the Vandals. You never know in college
football. Regardless, the winning team is almost guaranteed a BCS bowl game, in
addition to winning the Mountain West Championship.

The Mountain West is looking good, with several teams looking like they will be in
bowl games this season, and two teams vying for a Top 5 ranking as the season draws
    to a close.

As usual, it will be a key for the Vandals to stop Aaron Baltazaar, the star running
back who has put Boise on his back this season with Ryan Finley injured. Backup QB
Josh Fontenot has really improved as the season has gone on, and he has a ton of
weapons to spread the ball around to. Wide receivers Tanner Shipley, Adam Rooney,
and Thomas Sperbeck are all solid, good hands options while tight end Jake Roh is
exceedingly dangerous with the ability to stretch the defense in the seam. The
Broncos have one of the two best offensive lines the team has faced all season and
once again they will be hard pressed to create pressure against such a stout group.

On defense, the Broncos have a pair of absolute stud linebackers in senior Tanner
    Vallejo
and senior Joe Martarano. They make it difficult to run the ball, and on top of
those two they have a ton of depth. Very few weaknesses that opposing offenses
can target. As explosive as the Vandals have been on offense and as efficient as
they have been on defense, Boise State has kept up with them all year in the points
for and points against categories. This will be one hell of a fight for the Vandals.

Vandals get multiple players back from injury

Starters Richard Montgomery, Brandon Thompson (DE), and Aaron Mills (SS) return
from injuries in the conference championship game. Coach Clark has said that
Montgomery will be the starter, but now that the team knows what it has in Buck
Archie, they will mix heavy doses of the freshman in as well.

Position - Player - Injury - length - Return Week
    OLB - Martin Haynes - Meniscus - 6 Weeks - SEASON EFFECTIVE
    QB - Brad Wright - Knee - 7 Weeks - SEASON EFFECTIVE
    HB - Albert Hidalgo - Knee - 12 Weeks - SEASON EFFECTIVE

Both teams putting up around 200 rushing yards per game and still not in the Top 45 in that category, that's crazy.

Heartbreaking loss again to Boise. They just seem to come to play in the championship game, they had some monster numbers to beat you!

That last interception to lose the game must have been painful.

Senior Defensive Tackle Eric Mitchell Sweeps Awards

Eric Mitchell is a huge Sopranos fan, and likes to respond to situations or topics of
conversation with the catch phrase "what are you gonna do," replete with the Italian
Tony Soprano accent he has honed to perfection.

So, after leading the nation in sacks with 17 (five more than the nearest competitor)
and tallying 25 tackles for loss, what did Mitchell do? He won every award he was
eligible for this season. It included a sweep of the 2017 Bednarik, Nagurski, and
Lombardi awards. This has happened only three times since all the awards were
being given out at the same time: By Ndamukong Suh (2009), Manti Te'o (2012) and
Aaron Donald (2013). Scooby Wright did it in 2014, but that's non-canon in this here
                    work of fiction.

Mitchell was also named to the All American first team and the Mountain West
                    Conference first team lists.

Asked about the awards, Mitchell replied, "Whataya gonna do," then broke into a
mischievous grin. "I'm excited man! I can't believe it. I thought I could help this
team win when I got here. I didn't think I would lead the nation in sacks."

"What we always liked about Eric when we first got our hands on him was he had
something about his game that was elite. His power rush is elite. His skills in that
area never wavered, and this year he put it all together and had a truly magical year,"
said Coach Clark. "Combine that elite skill with a feel for the game and where to be.
He's good at getting the QB in the wash, freeing himself at just the right moment to
flow to the quarterback when he's trying to run, or being aware of the screen pass
and tracking down the running back in the backfield. That was the first thing he was
doing on a regular basis that really helped this team was slow down the screen game."

Needess to say, the four-year starter is a candidate for the Idaho Vandals Hall of
Fame if he graduates this spring.

As always some of the most fresh and crisp graphics out there with all the information on. Great swoop for Mitchell on all the always, 17 sacks is always impressive, hope you have someone to step up and create that kind of devastation next season.

Boise State keeps dominating that MW 1st Team, really need to put them in their place next season!!

The game definitely trends toward big time rushing numbers, and away from big-time passing attacks. Although Asiantii Woulard had a transcendent season, one of the best I've seen from any cpu controlled QB in any NCAA game. FIU's Woulard (95 OVR) went 324-498, 4803, 49 TD, 6 INT. He also tacked on 593 yards rushing and 9 TD. He will top 5,000 yards and likely be the only one within 500 yards of 5,000. He won the Maxwell, but I would have selected him as the Heisman winner in a season where there weren't any contenders from true contending teams.

It does suck for sure. I basically did everything except kneel down and pray for a close game, and a loss (in the grand scheme of things) may have almost been preferred. But when I get the controller in my hand and the possibility of losing becomes real, I become a maniac. Competitive side takes over and I simply cannot throw games or anything like that. It flat out SUCKED losing that game.

Very freaking painful. And absolutely, they came to play. They play a lot smarter than most teams I go up against. Screen passes just here and there and usually hurt you. They will bomb you as soon as there's an opening. They just play different.

One thing I really enjoy about the MW in this play through is teams keep popping up and going for greatness. I feel like in other NCAA games I usually was the heavy, smashing the dreams of the other teams and I feel like in this play through despite the success of Idaho, we've just a part of the machinations taking place. And the conference is much stronger all around for that.

As for whether it's time to move on, I can't say that yet, but I did hear from someone who told me that after a Cinderella season like that, most coaches would move on. And realism is a theme here.

I agree, they're a freaking machine. There's a freshman on the way who might end up being a real good player, a 77 OVR diamond in the rough with 76 speed. We never had anyone over 71 speed at DE here so far. He is the best chance to become a sack guy, but as far as that kind of season goes, probably not. Hell even Mitchell never did that till this season. It was a dream season for him.

I agree man. Their resume is a bit weak. Crushed by Ga Tech 45-3. Lost in OT a couple weeks later to the second ranked team they faced. They've then beaten the next two ranked teams they played handily, but overall they just don't feel like a contender.

Thanks a ton guys. Really appreciate it.

Idaho accepts invite to play LSU in the Sugar Bowl

The Vandals didn't drop far when they lost to Top 10 Boise State in the conference
championship game. After all, they're still one of the winningest teams in the nation
and beat Ohio State. At least apparently that is the thinking. As such, they were
invited to play the LSU Tigers in the Sugar Bowl in Louisiana. The Vandals will have
an incredible challenge on their hands attempting to play one of the best teams in
the nation as essentially an away team. LSU are exceedingly talented at every
position across the board. They even have a quarterback who is the equal of Eric
Lawson. And even Lawson hasn't been the Eric Lawson of old lately. There will be
no skating by in this game.

MSU Bullfrogs against Climpsun Tigers for all the marbles!

The BCS was left with one of the least attractive matchups in the last few years
when Clemson and Mississippi State emerged from the field of (however many it is
this year) and secured berths in the national title game.

Clemson has arguably the most embarrassing loss of a top team but luckily for them
it was a long time ago. They lost to Georgia Tech by the final score of 45-3.
Two weeks later they lost in overtime to an NC State team that surprised alot of
teams this year, 52-45. To their credit they beat ranked Boston College and
South Carolina to close out the season, but didn't have to play a conference
                            championship game.

Mississippi State lost to Michigan back when the Wolverines were ranked high in week
                            1. The wheels fell off for Michigan, which lost five games. The Bulldogs then reeled
off 8 wins in a row, including an overtime victory against LSU (which many wise guys
still see as the best team in the nation), and Notre Dame, both Top 10 wins. They
lost to Alabama, but that's nothing to be ashamed of and won out, including an
overtime win against Missouri to end the season, 34-31.

NC State just had one hell of a season

NC State faced the toughest schedule in the nation this year. They faced EIGHT,
count em, eight Top 15 teams. Not Top 25 teams, Top 15 teams, and won 9 games.
Even more impressive is they did this after losing the first two, against Notre Dame
and Navy. They defeated BCS participant Clemson in overtime, they beat Miami
then lost to them in the ACC championship. They also beat LSU. Phil Steele had
an extremely difficult decision choosing between NC State's Bob Davie (I know, we
were surprised too) and Dan Mullen for coach of the year.

NC State knows how to schedule, that's brutal! Did well to win that many games. LSU Bowl game is the sort of bowl game you want after a good season, will need to bring an A+ game to get a win I fear.
