    What's Happening in 4th and 1?
This is the league media thread. Post everything in here from game recaps to just random league facts. NO TEAM NEEDS TO CREATE AN INDIVIDUAL TEAM THREAD OUTSIDE OF THIS ONE.

Here is a little example from @rspencer86 from back in our OS Vets days lol...

Post away. These stories keep the league interesting and also make for fun reading at times.

Romo: Wouldn't Have Happened if I Started
    Romo resentful over not starting.

    Irving, TX

The Dallas Cowboys came into the opener with a lot of hype. Dak Prescott was named the starter to open the season and the team seemed poised to do something big. They only big thing they did yesterday was leave a giant turd on the field. After their week 1 game with the Giants was over the Cowboys quietly entered the locker room after a 44-19 defeat. Coach Marvin Russell absolutely chewed out his team.

Dak Prescott: "I don't have an explanation for the way I played other than it happened, I just want to put this behind me and move forward."

Dak was sacked 6 times and the vaunted Dallas O-line didn't seem as invincible as they once did. Ezekiel Elliot outside of 1 run was largely ineffective. The Dallas defense looked absolutely awful. At the end of the day though Tony Romo started a bit of controversy of his own.

Tony Romo: "I feel that what I saw out there was a lot of rookie mistakes and we probably would have done better with me at the helm."

When asked to clarify if he was referring to Dak, Romo declined to state who he was talking about. But the message was pretty clear. Either way Dallas is now 0-1 and they roll on into week 2 hoping to turn things around. Sounds like all is not well in Jerry World.

2016 Week 1: Chiefs Lose 12-7 Defensive Battle

The Kansas City Chiefs (0-0) held their home opener against division foe San Diego Chargers (0-0) in week 1. A defensive (or lack-luster offensive) contest throughout that featured five field goal attempts and lots and lots and lots of punting.

Chiefs starting QB Alex Smith would go down in the second quarter with a high-ankle sprain (not scheduled to miss any time) and recently signed backup Mark Sanchez would take over. Sanchez would struggle early on but would lead the Chiefs on the lone touchdown-scoring drive in the second half.

A key moment of the game came when Chiefs kicker Carlos "Iron Boot" Santino (or whoever it is) missed a mid-ranged field goal with the Chiefs down 5 late in the game. The Chiefs would later get the ball near field goal range for their final drive but would be unable to move downfield much and ultimately produced no points. Thanks Charlie Sandles, thanks a lot.

The Chiefs move to 0-1 on the season, while the Chargers notch their first win (1-0). Next week the Chiefs take on the 0-1 Texans.

Chiefs kicker Candy Strawberry will be kicking plenty of practice balls leading up to their next game.

        Browns Bounce Back
        9501919-robert-griffin-iii-josh-gordon-nfl-preseason-cleveland-browns-tampa-bay-buccaneers-850x5.jpg
After a brutal week one lost the Cleveland Browns came out against their division rival the Baltimore Ravens. The Baylor duo of Corey Coleman and Josh Gordon had a strong day as they torch they Ravens secondary. Coach Jackson was very pleased by the effort they gave as they was the driving force as the rushing game struggled not breaking 100 yards rushing.

Robert Griffin III looked like the "RG3" we loved as a rookie as he finished with 373 yards passing 3 TDs and a interception, a complete turn around of his 4 int game last week. "I give all the credit to my WRs as they made me look good out there. Cole and Josh are some special guys and i am fortunate to have them as my teammates", said Griffin when asked about his game

On defense there was some good and some bad but the good outweighed the bad in this one. Rookie DB Derrick Kindred made the most of his first career start totaling 10 tackles and forced fumble that energized the defense. Fellow rookie DB Keivearae Russell also made his mark as late in the 4th he jumped a pass and took it to the house. The Notre Dame product also recorded his first career sack as he shows alot of promise for the the future.

See you next week as the Browns take their talents to South Beach and face the Miami Dolphins

          Chiefs Continue To Lose

Chiefs move to 0-3. Good for them. At least Carmen SanDiego made his field goals this week.

                Zeke Hitting his Stride

                Dallas, TX

Ezekiel Elliot finally seems to have his mojo back. After his breakout rookie campaign, it seemed as if the running back would be poised for a bigger year in his Sophomore run. things didn't start quite as planned.

                Zeke: "I stunk."

To quote the young Dallas star. he just couldn't find a groove. But after week 15, he finally is starting to look like an MVP candidate and the team couldn't be happier.

Coach EmmittSmithx22x: "It was frustrating for awhile. He is so fast we had to tell him to slow down because he was out running blocks. Now he is a little more patient and you can really see it working for him."

Dallas is now 11-3 with the playoffs in sight. We will see if they can repeat this year. With Dak on the sideline with a broken Collarbone.

                  Stranger Things Have Happened

In a season in which the Carolina Panthers have suffered many injuries, tough divisional foes, and agonizing defeats, somehow they have made the playoffs. Sure making many teams suffer these things to make the playoffs. Yet, how many times do you see 3 teams from the same division make the playoffs? How many times have we seen a team tied for 4th place in the NFL be a 6th seeded wildcard? The Panthers only losses came from division rivals. It is safe to say the NFC South is the toughest division in 4th n 1.

The Panthers were without their starting QB for a good part of the year. He only posted 2,497 yards with 24 touchdown passes and 8 picks. However he had a league best qb rating of 114.6 while completing 66% of his passes. During Cam's absence a gunslinger by the name of Zach Mettenberger assumed the reigns and did his best to keep the panthers alive. Mett posted 1,786 yards and 16 touchdowns in his tenure as the qb. Mett had a couple of standout games in which he won NFC Offensive player of the week. In week 8 he posted 433 yards and 4 touchdowns and upped that performance week 10 posting 317 yards and 5 touchdowns. Mett laid it on the line every week and without him the panthers would be at home during the playoffs.

Heading into the wildcard matchup the panthers are 5th offensively in total yards with 5965 and 3rd in rushing with 1893. To be that high in rushing seems odd as the panthers lean on Jonathan Stewart whose age has caught up to him in the speed department. However he is still a hard nosed runner capable of big plays. The panthers rookie Whitaker went down early in the year with a compound foot fracture which ended his season and took away the panthers big pay threat from the backfield. Then emerged former Auburn standout Cameron Artis-Payne. AP gave the panthers a boost averaging 4.1 a carry before he too went down to injury. He is back for the playoffs which gives the panthers a much needed backup as Stewart cannot carry it 30 times a game. As far as receiving goes the panthers are led by Kelvin Benjamin who has had his ups and downs. He has 1,050 yards on 58 catches and 11 touchdowns. Devin Funchess has come on as of late with 8 touchdowns and speedster Damiere Byrd has 9 touchdowns. The panthers offense is a force when healthy as they are 2nd in points per game with 29.9.

Defensively the Panthers are led by linebacker Luke Kuechly who has 116 tackles on the year with 6 interceptions and 3 forced fumbles. The panthers aging linebacker Thomas Davis has been as brilliant as ever even with phasing him out for Shaq Thompson to begin as the nickel package linebacker. Shaq was looking sharp until a disloacted elbow forced him out. Shaq however showing toughness has come back 3 weeks early to play in the wildcard matchup.

The Panthers boast the best defense versus the run in the NFC only allowing 980 yards all year. Against the league MVP Devonta Freeman the panthers allowed 51 yards on 15 carries in a week 6 matchup and followed up that performance in week 13 holding Freeman to 35 yards on 14 carries. Yet, for how good they are against the run, they cannot stop the air attack. Somehow the panthers are dead last in the NFL vs the pass allowing 4721 yards. How can a team allowing so many yards make the playoffs? I suppose it may be that they somehow have 34 interceptions on the year and have recovered 14 fumbles on the year. Seems strange that you cannot stop the pass and have so many picks.

With this in mind the panthers made a trade week 8 at the deadline in which they received Marcus Peters from the Chiefs who is a shutdown corner with 7 interceptions on the year. Bradberry is coming on with 5 interceptions and in the final year of his contract Bene Benwikere has 7.

One would think the panthers are looking up except for the fact that with as bad as they are against the pass it could get worse. With the playoffs here the panthers are without SS Micah Hyde and DB Marcus Peters. Bradberry has to split time at SS and corner with old man Kurt Coleman playing at SS and a rookie at CB.

The cards are stacked against the panthers as they go to Seattle. They are without their top corner. They are missing their starting SS. Shaq Thompson is bracing up that dislocated elbow. This defense is hanging on by threads much like old glory back when Francis Scott Key wrote the national anthem. Captain Luke Kuechly is rallying his troops to march into Seattle as Sherman marched to the sea, burning everything on the way. Cam Newton is preparing the air attack to drop bombs, Turner and Norwell have the offensive line ready to take land like the Marines, while Stewart and Artis-Payne are ready to be the ground troops like the Army. When asked his thoughts versus the overwhelming circumstances Coach McFather simply stated "Damned the torpedoes, full steam ahead."

With the playoffs among us in doesn't seem the panthers have a chance. They are in hostile territory, there is the legion of boom, and the 12th man will be loud. Carolina shouldn't win, but stranger things have happened!

Another Classic AFC East Matchup That Doesn't Disappoint

The injury riddled Patriots visited the Division leading New York Jets this week. The Jets got out to an early lead on a precise pass in traffic to Hurns. Hurns took a massive hit on the play as he was hung out to dry and had to leave the game with an injury after the TD.

                      <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Y85jP1t3FkA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y85jP1t3FkA

On the next drive the Patriots drove down deep into Jets territory and Missed a very easy FG

                      <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/w5sqNM38d6I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Later in the game the Pats once again found themselves on the goalline and were not able to get any points on the drive as they couldn't get the ball in the endzone with their backup running backs

                      <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/MQ-c8s72VFM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

On the next drive the Jets drove all the way down the field from endzone to endzone and finished it off with a run by Dak Prescott on a QB keeper.

                      <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/nWQ8_8qgjvw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The Patriots had a good drive going at the end of the first half but ran out of time having no timeouts and Bortles threw up a desperation toss to the endzone that got picked off to end the half

Mid way through the 3rd Quarter the Pats cut the lead in half as they caught the defense out of position in a soft zone. HB Knile Davis takes a screen pass with great blocking in front of him, makes one man miss then trucks the last defender in front of him to take it for the long TD.

                      <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/0Vhe2ayPVmI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The teams traded punts until the Jets put together an impressive drive midway through the 4th quarter to seemingly ice the game.

                      <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/-Q6PG-UbzgM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The Patriots, down 14 points with time becoming a factor, put together a drive to once again cut the lead in half. They were finally able to get the ball in from the goal line late.

                      <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/L8IALQeNgjg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This would end up being too little too late for the outmatched Patriots as the Jets offense came out and got the first down they needed to allow them to run out the clock.

After the game the Patriots coach ShinVega1 congratulated the Jets coach Ny_Kia31 and said that it was a good game. Ny_Kia31 had no response.

The game was not without controversy though as the Jets coach fired shots calling the Patriots cheesy after the game was over.

                      <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4gV0p6C4PHs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

When Asked about these comments ShinVega1 said, "I don't even know what to say. He can't even be a gracious winner I guess. I can't wait to hear what he says after he gets beat in Foxboro in a few weeks."
