NHL 17 - Competitive/Full Sim Comparison (Online Modes)

Just compared these for my online gaming sanity lol.

I know all online game modes use preset 3 (competitive). If you compare it to preset 4 (full sim) there is honestly not much of a difference.

Below are the ones that stand out between the two sets and explain 100% why people get frustrated online.

    Skating Speed/Acceleration Sliders
    preset 3 - 65/65
    preset 4 - 50/50

    Skating Impact
    preset 3 - 0/0
    preset 4 - 45/45

    Board Effect Puck Carrier
    preset 3 - 0/0
    preset 4 - 50/50

Thoughts on the above sliders between the two sets.

Skating speed/acceleration is meh, speed difference is minor IMO.

Skating Impact, the likely hood to lose the puck on sharp turns, pivoting, etc. How is this at ZERO for online default modes? Honest question. This is why guys get annoyed with how the online modes play out. Why are guys allowed to start, stop, pivot, deke, etc and not having any consequences at all? I understand, cater to causal fans online, I get it. But can't even have a happy medium and put this at 20 or 25?

Board Effect Puck Carrier, again I get it, cater to casual fans. But come on, no reason that guys can start and stop with no penalty from the skating impact, now they can do so with the stick on the boards (through it at times) and have no consequences? Again, a happy medium please. How can this be at ZERO as well. How about 25?

They talk about how this game is great with setting up cycles etc. Yes it is, very rewarding this year. Small minor adjustments to the above would make the online modes more enjoyable. Forcing online players to take the foot off the peddle at times because of some consequences.

    Hey FIDDY! Waddup?

So... What does "Board Effect" do?
Where is the horse and the rider?
Where is the horn that was blowing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain. Like wind in the meadow.
The days have gone down in the West... behind the Hills... into Shadow.

How did it come to this?

I'm guessing at 0 it means you can skate by the boards with the puck with no ill effect, but at 100 you might slow down, lose the puck, or fall down in you ram into the boards. If that's the case that is one that should be a bit higher for online play as well.

          I see.

Well if putting this up can prevent the people that like to use the boards as trampolines by crashing into the boards at full speed and go the other way without losing momentum, I'd like for EA to up this in the next tuner update.

I just find it odd, that if this was Madden or Fifa, this type of stuff would be all blown up over the net. Since it's NHL, not a peep.

Stick lifts work really well when you're coming in from the side, facing in the same direction as the puck holder. But face to face? They're a complete wash...

I thought all the defensive tools where really well balanced in the beta, maybe stick lift was a tad over powered if you where behind on a rush.
It seems all the scales are tipping towards offense again

If I remember correctly, from years past, even if you adjusted the sliders to match, the game still just played differently on Hardcore compared to Sim or whatever the 'styles' were the previous two years. I think that's why it's important that when making your own custom sliders (or following someone else's base), you have to first go to full sim first before changing them.

What does adjusting online settings effect? I know there is something for puck possession or something. Would that differ in effect between two friends playing? Would you have to max it back to return to EASHL?

I would question that something more than just those has changed. It was feeling really good in the 10 hour pre-release. They unleashed something with one of the recent tuners. Might be the fatigue settings. It's quite a bit faster, floaty feeling, less skates digging into the ice, methodical gameplay. Whatever it is really hooped it online and it's back to last years in some integral ways. My friends and i all noticed it.

Online feels exactly like NHL 16 and that's not a good thing. The Beta was nice and sloppy and rewarded good gameplay.

My only thing I thought should change from the beta was toning down the hustle and making goalies better against the short side moves.

Now on release, hustle is overpowered, goalies still give up the short side, and it's too easy to hold the puck and make perfect passes through everyone.

Also in EASHL pretty much everyone plays as a power forward because of this. Just skate through pokes and hits only losing the puck enough to go past the D.

Yeah, I was just going off the offline sliders since they say pre set 3 is their online settings. Those were the main ones that would impact the game. No other slider was that off, others were just 7-10 clicks and that was it.

EASHL beta was a good time, EASHL release not so much. Like you said, everyone uses a power forward.

I'm a fan of player builds, but the way they have set them up combined with the online settings don't mesh. The way its going they should set up just one forward player type, one goalie player type, and one d man player type.

Maybe if they did the above tuning the EASHL settings wise would be easier for them. If that would be the case, I'm all for it. I just want to play some solid hockey, kind of what we were playing on the beta.
