    Possible Reduction/Reversal of Regression at 29yo ...

    OFFLINE CFM

so, i have a bunch of 29 & 30yo who are starting to regress like most of us have seen. overall, when i track their attributes, i don't see them going down too much. SPD, ACC & STR obvious go down but skill attributes don't.

then i accidentally used XP on their injury rating and suddenly, their OVR shot up.

    for example:
30yo OL anthony davis has regressed from 88 OVR to 82 over the course of two seasons despite maintaining his blocking atts in the low 90s.

raised his INJ from 74 to 84 and his OVR went up to 90. put some more XP into his INJ and in the space of one season, 30yo davis has gone from 82 to 93 OVR.

saw similar reversal of OVR dropping when i did similar XP spending on older players. 32yo centre, daniel kilgore, went from 80 to 87 OVR.

took control of another team and pumped XP into their older players and saw similar results. it seems to work best with OL/DL and less so with "skill position" or defensive backs.

it does not (seem) to have the same impact on younger players who already have INJ ratings in the mid to high 80s or low 90s.

    is this just anecdotal?

    has anyone else noticed this?

is this well know and i've just had my madden-head up my own own madden-arse for the last few weeks?

So when you upped injury, did their physicals still drop?

a little (they are getting older) but as i said above, anthony davis' blocking atts remain in the low 90s.

maybe, it's more a case of as players age & their OVR drops, it is connected to their INJ rating.

again, i could be wrong on this.

Nice find. I used some exp on injury category on older players just because I couldn't find value in upping their stats anymore but never noticed if their overall went up

I might have to try this out. Are they still getting the -2 (getting older)?

not sure cos i didn't go that far into the future. both players on my team were bumped up but then i let them walk in FA cos they were older & didn't have the cap space.

it didn't effect 29yo HB carlos hyde as much as i wanted but his INJ rating was kind fine already.

it was mainly effective on the OL and DL from my small experiments.

i have a bunch of players on my roster who'll be hitting their 29yo season after this current one so i'll be paying attention to it.

But if their other attributes regress because of age, what does inflating the overall (by raising the Inj attribute) mean? Overall is basically meaningless as far as on-field performance.

I have Michael Crabtree in my offline cfm and at 31 he is an OVR 81 with 82 speed, 83 acc, 79 agil... but with points going into what I can afford (awareness.route running/catching) the guy has still been great on-field for me. I don't send him deep one-on-one anymore and he's making a living in the slot, but if I can find a way to resign him, I will.

Most of us are probably too focused on the stats rather than production - Crabtree still gets open, he still beats coverage, still makes big 3rd down and endzone catches. Or perhaps we over-value speed b/c the way we play demands it? I have some young receivers who are faster, but they don't make plays for me like Crabtree does. He sure doesn't look slow as a defensive lineman (my fastest DL is an 81) out there.

57 catches/685 yds/8 TDs - long of 30. I'll take that from my 3rd receiver every time. Rac of 4.2 - compared to 5 for my 2nd receiver, and 6 for Cooper at #1 position. Not too shabby.

I think it had alot to due with what your speed threshold is. If you have it at 50 you can utilize mid 80 speed wr.

Yeah, I'm at default (whatever that is - I'm assuming 50).

This is exactly my thought on this. If other attributes don't go up on their own because if this, and it's just needlessly inflating their overall (which causes their contracts to be much higher to re-sign)

I signed a LT, forgot his name, but I was upset cause he was a 85 when I signed him, but a 83 when I put him on my depth. He matched my scheme, so i was a little confused. I reloaded my save and looked over his atts, signed him again and you guessed it, he regressed again. His injury dropped 6-7 points as he hit 30. It makes sense as your body breaks down as you age, but 6-7 points? I figure maybe 1-2 a year until it drops off again.

I guess I just dont get why when any player, on any video game wither it be baseball or football fall off the edge of the planet when they hit 30. The 30 decline bug doesnt hit EVERY player.

I'd like a Regression trait added. And make it expensive to add when you get older, too. If you have the wisdom as a young player to take care of yourself even better than the average NFL player, and you're a genetic freak, then you can play longer at a high level.

I love the additions of regression this year. Past maddens guys didn't regress nearly enough.
