Trading yourself mid-season 100% breaks MyCareer story.

I left the 76ers while 30-2 to go to LAC.. but the "story" doesn't care. I am still getting Justice Young cutscenes, he still texts me like he's on my team, the Press still talks to me like he's' on my team, it's weird af.

The announcers have no idea what is going on.... they announce me as getting my first NBA start, they talk about how LAC drafted me, etc. etc.

I played the 76s - no mention that I was drafted by them, no mention about Justice now being a rival, etc. etc.

Instead of focusing on a linear (and now broken) story, why not let me drive the story?

If they had focused on in-game drama instead of off-court drama, then this cool stuff could have happened:

    - Announcers "know" that I was traded and mention it being my debut on a new team.
    - My ex-team's fans boo me every time I touch the ball
    - The announcers and TNT people "know" justice and I are ex teammates and they talk about it and build it up.
    - Fans react online (screenshot of them burning my jersey would be awesome)

There's a million more things... these are the things I always expected to happen in a Next Gen game. I don't want a girlfriend, a mom, and a dead dad. Why can't my actions and accomplishments in the game drive the "story"?

MyCareer has been terrible for the last 3 years. It's a shame they don't seem to think these things through to create a compelling non linear story which changes based on your decisions. It's just a washed up concept at this point it's time to scrap mycareer because it's boring and the story line is always terrible.

They make it so no matter what kind of player you create you're always gonna be regarded as the franchise player. When I think of mycareer I don't think of be the superstar mode. If you don't run up the court on offense the cpu will literally not do anything until there's 5 seconds on the shot clock. Programming is terrible. Graphicsare washed it's time for something new.

    End rant

That's disappointing especially when they touted decision-based stories this year.

Did they not play the game through even 1 time?

I know they have to care on some level, do they just run out of time and say "F it, we gotta release what we got - we'll fix it later or if everyone buys it, we'll just leave it."

Well of course it breaks the story. The story is about you and Michael B. So if you go to another team ???? What did you expect? Its a linear experience. It has always been. I thought that was self explanatory , especially based on the last few stories.

Then they shouldn't give us the option to ask for a trade without Justice tagging along.

This. Requesting a trade was one of the first things I wanted to do because I just didnt like MyDUALCareer. And afaik 2k promised us a branching story where your decisions matter. So like OP I was a little surprised that after my trade to the Lakers the cutscenes story continued as if we both were still on the same team...

Im not expecting a deep roleplaying game from 2k but as already said why even ask if you want to be traded with justice or without if it doesnt matter...

I had a nice record at Denver then one day while grinding during practice my agent shows up and bugs me to stir the pot and ask for a trade. I tried to ignore him but each practice this *** hole would show up and I have to sit through this cut scene.

What's worse after the cut scene practice would be skipped all together. So he halted my grind till I demand for a trade. I was expecting the organization to fight and try to keep me. NOPE....now I play for the Kings who are at the bottom of the barrel.

I really hate unskippable cut scenes...

You should have asked around first lol. To get away from this, go to training as usual, wait until him started walking into the gym, before any cut scene occurs, quit practice. Afterwards, he will never show up again. It worked for me.

It wouldn't let me go to training.....I'm just grinding for this stupid defensive stopper badge anyway. I'm going to ask for a trade at the end of the season anyway. Just annoyed that 2k still thinks that unskippable cut scenes are a good idea.

There should be no 'of course it breaks it'. I can understand if trading yourself away would end cut scenes, but it should not break the game to the point it's stupid.

With it being the regular draft process unlike when we could pick the team, it's only natural people would want to go to their favorite team, or one they liked.

Given there's an option to be traded without justice, you'd think they'd anticipate this and make the story amend to fit this, or even end story events at the least.

Hopefully it's just a bug, but would be disappointed if not, as they did kinda make it seem like they had things in place if this happened.

So you'd rather waste seven minutes watching two animated characters poorly act a wooden script when you could be using that time to actually play the game? I know kids these days would rather spend time watching others on Youtube but I'd much rather be in control of the game I am having to play to make myplayer better than watching something droll on that I have no control over.

THIS. I wouldn't mind playing the through a story if it was compelling in any way. But what they've put together the last few years is horrible on almost every level. From uninspired writing, to poor acting, it just gets in the way of the game. MLB the Show's RTTS mode is nearly perfect because it just lets you play. The commentators reference things about your career in smart, unobtrusive ways. It does nothing to take you out of the moment.
