    WR blocking is still awful

I like running screens and throwing to my backs and TE as well. Currently using the Seahawks and have used the Cards, Steelers and Panthers in the past. They all have the same problem. When I throw to my RB coming out of the backfield, WRs just keep running their routes, even when my RB is coming up right behind them, the defender just cruises right by my dumb WR who doesn't even attempt to block him. On a related note, how does ONE defender still magically get thru 3-4 huge lineman blocking on a screen? Its unrealistic garbage like this that make this game frustrating more times than not.

Lol and I thought I was the only one with these problems.

I like to run outside the tackles, and often times I get one on one with the CB and manage to get by him. My WR - who is dowfield and supposedly looking for next level players to block - never even manages to lay a hand on one, and watches me get WRESTLED to the turf by a LB/FS.

My FB or TE blocking on the side of the run will give a quick block and then DISENGAGE from those defenders, who manage to stuff me in the back field for a loss.

It sucks because I look at what's happening on the line before my HB even receives the ball, and when those guys peel off their blocks (for no good reason) I already know I'm screwed.

Someone was telling me that you shouldn't "sprint" with your HB until you see the hole, because Sprinting actually "activates" the defenders to shed their blocks earlier than usual and come at your carrier.

Yep, it sucks. Stretches and outside zones work ok unless you are playing a quick D like Carolina but yea, the blocking is still miles away from where it should be and Ive used teams with good O lines and blocking WRs. Interesting about the sprint button though because I always get on it as soon as I get the ball. I'll try laying off it and see what happens.

Could you elaborate on what you mean by the defensive players peeling off their blocks, "for no good reason"?

You mean cause there is no animation for the defender shedding the block and they just magically disengage?

          Bingo.

My blockers will give the initial contact of their block, and then "release" from it.

I don't mean the Linemen, I mean the TE or the FB - the latter who's supposed to be the LEAD Blocker that helps spring me into open field for the next level of players. It's not even like they get bulled or finessed around, sometimes they just give a "pop", and then act like their job is finished. Usually it is THAT defender that drags me down and it's very frustrating...

I'd rather the reason for me getting stuffed is because the defender is skilled, or the blocker is not that effective at his job......not because of faulty AI.

Lead blocking has been broken since m16 but few commented on it. M15 the lead blocker / pulling lineman would often plow over a smaller player at the 2nd level (perhaps over powered..) but now more often than not the player they engage disengages (sheds) immediately and is rarely out of the play for long even in the best cases.

            It's annoying and unrealistic.

This is just as comical as when Hines ward used to lead the league in pancakes every year. Madden always has a problem with balance.

Honestly I haven't been having this issue at all.

What are the run block ratings of your WRs vs the CBs they're trying to stop?

most NFL WR suck at blocking but, yes, there doesn't seem to be enough between good blocking WR and poor ones.

boldin & crabtree are beasts at blocking.

And i dont have issues with WR run blocking especially

It might just out that a lot of corners have higher blockshed

Re: WR blocking is still awful

Ok, some simple truths from what I've seen in my short time with this year's game.

Rushing The Ball - Laying off the sprint button WILL have a positive effect on your running game. Not only does that sprint button bring unwanted attention, it seems to completely screw with your team's ability to block.

Additionally, your running game always needs attention. If you want to run better in between the tackles then keep yourself a competent blocking tight end on the roster. If you want to run better outside of the tackles, learn to identify run blocking wide outs.

The best way I can explain this is in how the game has changed. In previous year's, you could build up a monstrous line with 90's in run, pass, and impact blocking. Not to mention, you could also bump up run blocking in tight ends and wideouts to crazy levels.

That didn't matter much to me since for whatever reason, I couldn't run the ball effectively anyways. I used to always prefer speed backs since that was the only way that I could get rushing yards. Eventually, I drafted a balanced back that was so good at everything and crazy strong to boot. At some point I had to realize that maybe my lack of rushing success was more about myself than anything else. It was during one of these runs which was always abnormally long that I looked around and wondered where the other teams defensive backs were. That's when I found out one of the positives to having Brandon Lafell on your team. Not only was he completely manhandling the corner, he was locking up and absolutely destroying multiple defenders. I couldn't figure out why until I checked his stats which had him in the lower 70's for run block. After checking out more wideouts, I realized how rare that was. Sooner before later, I was absolutely flooding his run block stats and subbing him in on more and more runs plays.

Long story short, run block matters for wideouts...alot..

Additionally, receivers have always been notoriously poor run blockers because most of them simply don't even try. It's an attitude of "I'm not paid to do that." Especially considering a lot of them are scared that they may injure their hands trying to get physical with a corner or god forbid a safety.

There's my two cents. Lay off the sprint button and look for hidden wideout gems that have strangely high run block ratings. In this year's game, that would be run block 60 and up.
                            VOL T VOL.....................
                            Anymore questions?

this has been a problem since the games release. We all know that WRs aren't very good blockers, but they don't even engage anyone half the time. Here's hoping for a fix.
