What are you doing to add longevity to the game?

I'm currently into my third season with the Browns in CFM, having won the Superbowl last season. After the draft, I tend to find myself becoming quite bored with CFM. Mainly, because I don't feel like the game warrants any challenge, and becomes stagnant.

I've tried altering sliders etc, but still don't find the game enjoyable most of the time, as it feels repetitive etc

Was just wondering what other people do to add longevity to their game, and make them want to keep going back for more?

This is s typical issue with any sports game (except I feel NCAA games...and The Show has improved). After running through a year or two there is nothing new to offer.

In all reality though, if you won in the 2nd year with the Browns then your most likely thing is to try a more difficult setup...if you truly set up a challenge instead of a setup where the Browns win a super bowl on one year...then you'll probably get a longer lasting experience.

Yeah once you've climbed the mountain like that what else is there to do?

To me the key is to be emotionally invested in my squad. I find it the same with Football Manager, Blood Bowl, Madden, anywhere where you're squad building. The games where it clicks and you start to feel a connection for the squad are the ones I keep going through no matter how many times I win.

I just started the second season of my Titans CFM. I made the Conference Championship in the first year despite really being a transition season, trading out old players for draft picks and the like so I'd expect to win this season or next but I want to see how my draftees get on and how they develop.

This is something I will definitely look at. However, with the user QB Acc slider being as rubbish at it is, it feels like it's too easy to pass against the CPU

a cfm website would go a long way.

I find random fantasy drafts fun. You have to adapt your play style to the players CPU has selected.

Also, downloading legend rosters could be fun. Last year I downloaded one with a tone of greats. It was fun drafting a team with Ladanian Tomlinson, Lorenzo Neal, Shawne Merriman, etc.

A user cam is definitely needed..a new perspective equals a new game.. I don't know what we have to do to drill this in EA's head

Yea I agree with Datninja, a fantasy draft is nice to mix it up a little bit. Or perhaps joining an online CFM vs others users. I am in one where we did a fantasy draft with 32 users (yes it takes literally ALL DAY to draft) but its interesting to see how other people draft and keeps the game interesting for months.

It's getting difficult to keep playing. My wife rented me nba 2k17 last Friday night. Started it, was able to create an expansion team, the St Louis spirit, and do an expansion draft. I lost my first two games. Turned the game in on Saturday and have been thinking about how awesome that game is every day as I go through the motions of my madden franchise.

For me it's fantasy drafts. And I use restrictions on who I can pick so my team is not too good. Yeah it never takes me long to win a Superbowl but each one I do is fun and feels like something new.

Re: What are you doing to add longevity to the game?

I keep a spiral notebook where I record each seasons highlights. My teams record, big wins, performances, but also the top in the NFL for passing/rushing/sacks/etc. I record who wins MVP, rookie of the year and so on.

In the off-season I record the top5 draft picks and then a few notable (high OVR) players. I also record my own. I write a short bio for many of the top picks to give them a personality (MADDEN NEEDS THIS BADLY!)

It all gives my CFM some life. It sucks that the actual game doesn't have a way of doing much of this. I try to sim most of my division games so they don't get stale and I stick to the results of my simmed games, I sim at least 8-10 games a year. I found a good set of sliders that make my games competitive and I play sim as much as possible.

I also go slow, only playing a bit each day and taking a break every few days. It has made me look forward to playing more than when I'd binge play in the past.

This is the first year I have continued to enjoy CFM after a couple months.
Don't look back too long and don't look too far ahead.

Re: What are you doing to add longevity to the game?

For me, it's having a variety of other games that helps with shelf life and overall enjoyment.

If I'm only playing Madden since mid-August, of course it's going to get old. That's one of many reasons I stopped doing on-line leagues. Many of those cats only play Madden, like it's a religion, to the point that they're aware of every "computer" nuance programmed into the game. For me, that's too much, but to each their own.

I'm essentially, strategically "dumbing down" how much I play Madden, which greatly increases shelf-life and enjoyment.

Again, to each their own. I don't begrudge anyone else and how they choose to approach Madden.

I felt the very same way midway through last years game, so one week I just decided I wanted to try an online CFM with multiple users. I am so glad I did, it makes it so much more immersive. I love my league, and my solo CFM's go untouched. Plus the interactions we have in the league chat is classic.

Play online in a competitive SIM league, several run almost year round. Nothing Offline offers can even compare to H2H SIM competition and team building.
