Archetypes in 2k18 for MyPark/MyCAREER or no?

Archetypes is a cool thing they added, but I feel that it should just go back to the way it used to be 2k14 and back.

    What do you guys think?

I miss being the player I want to be.

I kinda like archetypes (I play mostly online). I never liked seeing 7'3 dudes being able to dribble and shoot like Curry.

It needs more support/info, so people can get better at it. They should do things like add icons to your teammates, so you can make sure everyone plays their role.

What they should do is separate online from offline. Or just remove the caps for offline play.

I understand. But I'm sure there's a workaround. But like someone said in another thread, switching 4,5 different MyPlayers to do something that you can't do with another is annoying. I miss just having my one 6'5 SG I can go to and just ball out.

It was hellaxious going against those 7ft players in 15

I like the archetypes. I'm actually in favor of 2k11 and an even deeper archetype system like 2k16 which would change as you upgrade your player. Instead of waiting for the upgrades just give us those different layers outright.

I could choose Balanced Player in 2k16 but if I raised Defense first he would be known as a Defender if that bucket had greater emphasis than defense. You could also have a Shooter, Sharpshooter, and Skilled Sharpshooter. You could have Pass First Point, Shoot First Point, Offensive Minded Point.

I'm in favor of more layers on the archetypes but before we get that far it's impotent the archetypes be rated apparipiately. The balance is needed there first between each build and realistically for parity.

I like it for online play. Maybe you should try a Point Forward? It's more fun when you play the right Archetype for you.

I made a 6'6 SF Point Forward and I can do everything I want in the park. I do kinda suck at rebounds/blocks, but I can shoot from anywhere. I can dunk like crazy, I can throw lobs and pass, I can break ankles, and I can boost myself +5 in everything if I want to.

My defense sucks, but I am actually taking the time to learn how to play defense this year and it has been paying off. I'm also finally putting time into figuring out the stupid Shot Stick and that has improved my shooting.

I don't think they should remove them from online play, but they should let you max your dude out to 99 in Offline MyCareer, so you can do everything you want (or even better - separate the two modes).

Hate the caps this year. Unless they can do a lot better with the caps, I say go back to how it used to be.

I'm leaning towards the way 2k11 was, but I'm doubting it a little.

Honestly, I don't care about them anymore. I used to want them for balancing but as Jrocc mentioned, the caps this year are bad and some of them make no sense.

The online community is always going to find a way to glitch the system to make better players, make tutorials and guides on how to make the best players of each archetype, and abuse the system/exploits to try and get an advantage so at this point I say go back to the old system and let us make the guys we want. Cap the height for players and maybe the speed for bigs so they can't be a 7'3 Iverson.

They could also leave everything uncapped and just give you a certain amount of attribute upgrades so that way at least you can pick and choose and truly make the style of player you want but then you can't have 99 everything.

Either way, it will be abused and exploited...might as well let me make a Shaq build with 99 strength and 99 inside/post ability or a KAT like big with 80 speed.

I might try it out. I miss just being able to do everything (park wise).

Pro-AM or 5v5 in general is a whole 'nother story. I'm more of a role player in that. If I'm playing 5v5 I'm most likely a Sharpshooter playing at the two guard.

But I understand why y'all would want archetypes for online play, but i just found it more fun when you could do everything or be what you wanted to be. Or give us secondary archetypes or something.

I think they should expand on the archetype system. It doesn't need to go away but improvements can definitely be made.

IMO you should be able to choose from 2 specialties, and the first specialty you choose determines which Grand Badges(or whatever the highest badge next year will be) you get.

For example, If I want to make a Lebron type small forward I will first choose the point forward playstyle, and the athletic playstyle second. That way I'll have the passing ability of a point guard and the athleticism of...well, Lebron.

You can really make a lot of diverse players this way, and I think it's the only way we can make any type of player in the game.

Id rather be what I want offline or online.

But if they were to advance or do more to the archetypes, I wouldn't mind having a secondary archetype or whatever. Maybe for the primary one you can get badges up to HOF or Gold and have your Secondary go to Silver.

                        Primary Archetype: Shot Creator

Hall of Fame/Gold: Difficult Shots, Tireless Scorer, etc..

                        Secondary Archetype: Slasher

                        Silver: Posterizer, Relentless finisher, etc..

Archetypes should only define your starting attributes but should not limit how your player will progress. There already is a limit for number of attribute upgrades so you should choose how you will use them and how your player will evolve.

Think about Kawhi and the progress he made. Current scheme for archetypes is not realistic.

                            I like this.

I also would suggest Silver badges for the second tier.

The badges and ratings should also be more relevant to the average ability at that position.
