This hurts so much. One major thing they went backwards in again. I have almost never missed fgs or xps from like Madden 07 to Madden 16....this year during the ea access trial and on to release week, I could not stop playing this game, like it was 05 again (I was addicted to espn 2k5 for about 5 years...and then 2k8 for 3)...anyways I got through about 3 seasons of my cfm, playing every game, 15 min 15 rundown....each season with Dan carpenter I went close to 70% on fgs and even missed around 4 xps a year....Extra Points!!!! Even 50 games in, I knew even getting used to the New meter, I still missed fairly often and was so thankful that It may have finally mattered...then the fixes came, and I'm back to never missing, even if I don't hit It in the meter....wtf?....I unfortunately bought this digitally so I can't play without the patches...never again on that note...so I went from playing this game nonstop for around 5 weeks to slowly watching this game revert backwards to 16...now don't get me wrong, 16 was good to a point, but release day Madden 17 was an answered prayer FINALLY...it was so fun, and now I play now and then, frustrated for losing what felt like the best Madden ever or at least since 05, that was a pretty good year for football and it felt like we almost had that back. I hope they at least look into fixing the slider...or some option that makes the accuracy smaller or a meter speed slider...please make me sweat during a game winning field goal, please let me feel doubt again....I've lost a few games in the beginning and it felt glorious....now like others have said...get me to at least the 38 and it's a gimme

Re: Kicking back to automatic, why?
After reading about rookie mode I fired up a game and tried it. Now it's not for me but I noticed something. On rookie mode the speed is a snails pace and the black area is really wide BUT if you miss the black area you will miss the kick it goes wide right or left. On all pro and all madden you miss the black you still make the kick. I think the target zone is as wide as rookie now they are just tricking us by making the black small but you still have a pretty wide range where you will make the kick.
The solution seems pretty obvious. Make online use rookie special team settings and give us back our out of the box kicking or if it misses black the kick goes offline. If that's too hard for some offline players just crank your slider up to 100. You can't adjust the slider below 30 specifically 28 before everything is auto shank. I'm not sure how easy it would be for them to implement but that seems like a reasonable fix.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: Kicking back to automatic, why?
In the game today in London a missed xp and a missed chip shot in OT were the difference in a game that led to a tie. Sim players need a working a slider.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: Kicking too easy after nerf?
I think they need a simple accuracy meter. Have it speed up significantly depending on kicker rating and clutch moments in tough situations. EA don't make it difficult !

Re: Kicking back to automatic, why?
I would love for them to fix the kicking accuracy slider but I am fearful that if they do and we adjust it to our liking that the CPU will shank field goals if we set it too low due to the fact that the User and CPU share the same special teams sliders.Comment

Re: Kicking back to automatic, why?
Thanks to Booker, this is a video of what kicking looks like if slider is below 28
And to JayD's point, we need separate special teams sliders for human and AI in CFM.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

Re: Kicking back to automatic, why?
It sure would be nice to see the CPU miss a few under 50 yards as well. Yes, you will get some misses if you sim the kicks, but it kills the immersion.
As it stands, if the CPU drives inside your 33 yard line you are done. Put the three on the board.
The flip side is the CPU foolishly attempts all sorts of ridiculously long field goals and misses most of them, ceding valuable field position.
EA needs to watch a few NFL games and take note of the many field goal misses from 30-50 yards. It's supposed to be the "year of special teams" correct?Comment

Re: Kicking back to automatic, why?
It's the year they put some effort into special teams, but I can't find the tagline "the year of special teams"?
Maybe it's time to trade in your game, Sturz.
I still miss FG's from time to time, so, I think it depends on the user, it's not always automatic on my end.Comment

Re: Kicking back to automatic, why?
The Clearly backpedaled on this.....
Special Teams. The third phase of the game. This is an area that hasn’t changed much in Madden for quite some time. To be honest, special teams in Madden was largely a non-factor. Kicks were too easy and blocks were almost impossible without exploits. We felt pretty strongly that this was not representative of what we are seeing in the NFL. Our goals in this area were to add strategy, risk and reward elements, and the potential for game deciding plays in special teams.
New Kick Meter
When we reviewed game tape of the 2015 NFL season, we came to the realization that it was far past time to make kicking in Madden ‘less automatic’. We felt like we needed more of a challenge than just flicking the stick up. We also felt that kicker ratings needed to have a much bigger impact on the game. After reviewing other sports titles, we quickly adopted a 3 button approach, very similar to what you would see in a golf or baseball game. You click the button once to start the kick, click again at the top of the meter to set power and finally again at the bottom of the meter to set accuracy. The harder you try and kick it, the more difficult it will be to hit the accuracy window. We have also restored the squib kick mechanic based on community response and new to M17 are ‘sky punt’ and ‘backspin’ options for situational strategies in the kicking game.
Either way they aren't going to fix it because Mrprice confirmed that everything is a design decision including the broken slider, which they don't view as broken because it's a design decision.
My recommendation is to trade it in while it still has value if its a gamebreaker for you.
It's just unfortunate that it has a great kicking engine under the hood now but they nerfed it and locked us out so we have no way to access it.Chalepa Ta Kala.....Comment

GAME CHANGING SPECIAL TEAMS
I lifted that quote from the EA website for Madden 17. It is part of a collection of 4 or 5 "big" items it hypes as advertisement for the virtues of the new game that would potentially drive one to make a purchase decision.
I may have paraphrased in my previous post and we may differ on semantics, but I think the intention is quite clear.
I understand people may still miss some FGs on the human side, and while I do think there is room for improvement on that end, my last post specifically referenced the longstanding CPU FG kicking issue.
I am sure EA was trying to direct attention to the new blocks and fakes-which are arguably over done- but the reality is that outside of that new addition the special teams remain status quo from years past and are as disfunctiinal as ever:
Wind effect is overdone.
Long returns are non existent by CPU AI. Actually worse in 17 than years past.
CPU FG attempt logic and accuracy is broken. This is the real "game changer".
Cannot select personnel for kick off team.
The frustration stems from EA's chronic practice of adding in new features while the existing features either half work or don't work at all. Compound this with their propensity for inexplicably removing working features from the game
(this year alone several defensive playbook formations were axed) and it's easy to see how users can get disenchanted.
The practice of finishing what you started would serve EA well and make for a much more enjoyable game experience overall. Sadly, the aforementioned practices have resulted in the stagnation of the series' growth and appeal over the last ten years.
The football junkie in me won't put Madden 17 down quite yet. Three months after release and I still hope against very long odds that EA will put out a blockbuster patch, surprise us all and redeem themselves.
You and I often see things differently with regard to this game, but one thing we do have in common is we both desperately want EA to succeed in delivering the game of football we all love.Last edited by Sturzinator; 11-11-2016, 10:06 AM.Comment

Yeah, that was what I was going after, it's all marketing speak at the end of the day for me. Heck, some people still hang their hat on the 25 year old marketing speel, if it's in the game, etc....... As far as the CPU kicking, I agree with your points, but for desired outcomes, I go ahead and sim. I get it, the immersion isn't there and I wish it was there, but it isn't, so, I choose to sim ahead.(at least there is a choice, but not a desirable choice. workaround)
And Fist, I am not forgetting you either, I know you are passionate about the FG accuracy update on the last patch. I understand why it was done, but I don't agree with the current outcome. They need to separate online from offline from this point going forward.
And Sturz, I do agree on your last paragraph, no doubt we agree on that!!Last edited by roadman; 11-11-2016, 02:21 PM.Comment
