I am very pleased to announce that the final and complete version of a 1995-96 NBA roster is now available; you can find it by searching for PSN username "ferrfs" and downloading the roster set titled "1995-96 NBA Roster" (don't download any of the others, as they are variously incomplete or filled with errors).
A few notes:
1. All 29 NBA teams are accurate as of the opening game, 1995. The only annoying accuracy issue is that the game won't allow you to use certain names, like "Conlon" or "Massenberg," that it thinks might contain curse words (apparently "Con" is a curse word?). We've gotten around this issue by using apostrophes. For all teams, I used the "default" team. For example, the 1995-96 Sonics are on the Oklahoma City Thunder roster. If this bothers you, you can move the team or just trade everybody over to the historical Sonics roster.
2. The Pelicans are composed of 13 players who in real life were either free agents, playing internationally, or very recently retired in 1995: Dominique Wilkins, Bill Cartwright, a very young Pablo Prigioni, Voshon Lenard, and others.
3. All players have been given contracts that accurately represent what they were actually making in 1995, scaled for inflation. This roster set should work perfectly well in MyGM or Franchise mode.
4. There are around 100 free agents (again, real life free agents, international players, or players who had just retired) in the FA pool. Everyone else has been renamed "J Doe" and is rated 40 overall.
5. The whole thing uses a somewhat quirky ratings system designed to get more separation between the best players at a particular skill and everyone else. It works pretty well in practice, but when you just look at it, many players have lower overall ratings than you might expect. Also, badges are much rarer in this roster set than in the base game - you really have to be one of the best players in the world at a particular skill to get a badge at all, and only one player in the league has a Hall of Fame-level badge for each skill.
6. Rotations, playbooks, and coaching styles have been set to approximate real life. This part was much harder, and I can't figure out how to edit coaches so you get the base coaches that came with the game unless someone can explain how to do it.
7. I have a 1996 draft class about halfway done, and think it will be finished within about a week. Sorry for the delay!
I guess that's it. HUGE thanks to artvandeleghe; about half of the work you see here was done by him and the roster wouldn't be done, or nearly as high quality, without him. We also made pretty liberal use of TGor's CAP tutorial videos on YouTube; if a player looks a lot like he should, it's probably thanks to TGor. Hope everyone enjoys the roster, and please direct feedback - positive or negative - to this thread!
