MLB The Show 17: Retro Mode Details, Regional Cover Athletes Revealed

    <iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fWN55cMP_5A" allowfullscreen="" width="560" height="315" frameborder="0"></iframe>

Ramone Russell posted a new blog on the official Playstation Site talking about some new details on Retro Mode in MLB The Show 17:

Retro mode is pretty much a one-button mode, but with surprising depth, and all the new animations, gameplay additions, and improvements found in the regular version of the game.

For example, in an effort to simplify the batter vs. pitcher battle, we’ve taken all the pitching attributes out and boiled them down to velocity, break, and control. Because there is no high and low in the strike zone, you have three pitches at your disposal that you can trigger with the touch of one button. To throw a fastball you hold down on the left analog stick and press X. To throw a changeup you hold up on the left analog stick and press X. And to throw a slider you press to the left or right on the left analog stick after the pitch is released.

One of the wrinkles we’ve added is that velocity is controlled by holding down or up on the analog stick just before the pitcher releases. In closing, you choose velocity before the pitch is thrown and you can affect movement (left or right) after the pitch is thrown.

Also revealed are two regional covers for MLB The Show 17. The Canadian version of the game will featured Aaron Sanchez and the Tawianese version of the game will feature Wei-Yin Chen.

You can see the covers below!

What i noticed is for the sponsor pack, the equipment only says for RTTS. Does this mean no more created DD player this year?

As a Canadian I have to be honest I am a little disappointed in the cover. Although I am a Jays fan, Ken Griffey Jr. was my absolute favourite player to watch growing up and it is a bit strange to me that just because we are from Canada we have to have a different cover. Oh well. The cover is kind of meaningless anyways! I am sure the game will be amazing regardless!

No that's just a misprint the DD created player is still there.

While on hear you, in the end what is the cover, I mean we'll still see Griffey on the screens first that's what matters.

Nice to get the sked, one potential downer, as one of the many wanting expansion or create a team mode for season/franchise. they show the mlb hat available digitally for DD teams... perhaps they wouldve left a nugget on the screen saying DD and franchise mode.

Hopefully im just being pessimistic but its getting to the point where I'd literally take a roster update with create a team...

Oh thanks for asking, eh? Sorry I wasn't clear aboot what I said before. I clearly was dissapointed but I rode my Moose to Tim Hortons and got a double double with added Maple Syrup and now I am alright again. Good thing I put on my toque because it is COLD. In fact I don't know why I even had an opinion of a baseball game! It's not like its hockey eh?

Haha jk. Nah the more I think about it, it will be kind of cool having Sanchez on there and still getting Griffey on the main menu and as a playable character. Best of both worlds.

Im interested to know if retro mode has any depth to it beyond "play now" games. Love to see something like a modern take on baseball stars.

retro mode is such an awful idea, from a great game maker...add more to the game it self...or give us old rosters to celebrate GRIFFY...DON'T GIVE US AN OLD GAME
