    EA exclusive NFL agreement

Does anyone happen to know when the current EA/NFL agreement ends? I did some research but could only find articles as late as 2013 claiming the contract has a "few more years" remaining.

I believe it was extended in 2014 when those "NFL 2k15" rumors were out.

Thanks for the reply. We just don't know how long it was extended, huh?

Ran across an article published in 2015 that said the current deal likely runs through 2017 based on previous extension lengths.

Ever since EA nonchalantly announced that they had extended their deal with the NFL early last year question remained regarding exclusivity. The subject was dodged at every turn, leaving many to wonder if the EA Sports deal with the league had changed in that regard. Rumors even arose suggesting other companies were going in on

Does it really matter at this point? Even if the agreement expires this year, there's no publicly-available reason for the NFL and EA to not renew their arrangement.

Also the NFL always goes to EA first to renew the contract when it's about to expire anyways.

The last line of the article shouldn't be ignored:

the smart money remains on that relationship continuing well beyond the end of the current deal, regardless of the desire from consumers for competition.

yep. and despite the NFL being a non-profit, its all about the MONAY!

I guess it doesn't. I was just curious. It just stinks because no other company is willing to develop a football game without the license.

It hasn't been a non-profit for a couple years, and that's always been a silly point even if it was.

A "non-profit" caring solely about profits? You don't see the irony? lol

But anyway, I wonder what it would take for EA not to renew with the NFL?

Because you're intentionally missing the point. Or maybe not? The NFL is a trade association for 32 for-profit businesses, it's an executive/organizational entity which was formerly non-profit.

Decrying their non-profit status is a distraction, has never had anything to do with the topic.

Like all licensed products, it would have to no longer make business sense for EA to not renew. All signs point to both sides being happy with the partnership so as many have said there's really no point they'd stop making the agreement.

While it might be a distraction, its hard to argue against NFL only using that status to be tax exempt.

However, I agree with your second statement and that's more what I was intending this discussion to be. I wonder what those things would have to be for either party to not renew? Its interesting to consider those scenarios and the possibility of alternative NFL games.

I would think that at some point the agreement could become too costly for EA. However perhaps football could survive on the Madden name alone?

The NFL dropped its non profit status a few years ago.
