Thanks bro...Granted it was against Vandy, but my confidence in Allen, Tompkins, and this entire offense is sky-high right now. I feel like we can go up and down the field on anybody at the moment.

I'm going through a bit of a road trip in my own dynasty; I hope both of us leave it relatively unscathed. Good luck against Auburn!
The re-institution of featuring the tight end and running back in the passing game has been the big breakthrough for Allen and the offense and I'd recommend that to anyone who feels they're struggling with the passing game. A couple of weeks back, I went back and read reports from our pinnacle seasons of 2016-2018 and saw that we used to use the tight end a lot more than I have been; we used to routinely have 1,000 yard tight ends, so I've decided to go back to that style.

TE Ronnie Parsons has been huge for us and will continue to be a featured player as will RB Tony Tompkins, who is really turning into a star before our eyes after such a slow start to his career.

Fortunately this road trip doesn't look super-daunting, but as this game reminds me every so often, any team is capable of creeping up on us.

Honestly, I expected the outcome to maybe be even more of a disparity with that Vandy roster, much like everyone else said. In spite of that, Allen TORCHED them, so it must be great seeing him putting on a show and hopefully keeping his head on straight for the rest of the season. The turnover train has hopefully left the station for him! Great win and hopefully a morale booster for your mildly inconsistent offense.

When I read the headline of "Tony Tony Tony" I will admit I had a bit of deja vu moment. I remember once upon a time a headline of yours for a game that read "Reggie Reggie Reggie". Fitting considering the performance Tony Tompkins turned in was very Reggie Moore-esque.

A great game all around in all aspects of the game. I was happy to see Parsons get involved. He came in with such hype, I have been waiting to see him as a more dominant part of the passing attack.

On a presentation note, absolutely love that picture of Allen coming out of the tunnel, just amazing quality and a fantastic shot.

Loving this as always my friend.

Thanks Moose. I'm hoping this run we are on is the start of us not being so inconsistent offensively. I really feel like the new offensive style has allowed Allen to become the star player we once thought we were getting.

I too thought that we'd beat Vandy worse, but we started off so slow and it is at least great to know that even a team like Vandy can keep things close if I am not on my game. This was about as entertaining of a blowout win I have had in a while in terms of having to actually "earn it."

LOL...I had a feeling you'd make that correlation on the headlines. I actually did not think about the old Reggie headline until a day or so after posting the Tony one. When I wrote it, I was actually trying to make a play on words with the old R&B trio:

But as I should have expected, it fell on deaf ears. Damn, I guess I am showing my age.

Parsons will definitely be a big part of the offense moving forward. I don't know how or why, but we've seemingly moved away from using the tight end in recent years where as looking at previous years, 1,000-yard tight ends were common for me. Parsons was once the #1 high school tight end in the nation, and it is time we took advantage of that.

What's also funny about his improvement is that I actually inadvertently foreshadowed the tight end being important to the offense back when Bryce Allen first signed with us, which is something I highlight in my next update as you'll see in a moment; sometimes the stories just come together like that huh?

Appreciate the compliments as always man!

Smith has made plays all season and caught an interception in week 2 versus Notre Dame.

Tulane | Defensive back Smith singled out by Geezy
            Thu, 5 Oct 2023 12:18:06 -0700
            report courtesy Dianna Russini, ESPN.com

Dianna Russini of ESPN.com reports that Tulane head coach D. Geezy sung the praises of sophomore SS Jonathan Smith (80 ovr) during his bye week press conference this week and again later in the night, hours after the press conference. Smith, a junior college transfer playing in his first season at Tulane, has made several key plays thus far this season, many of which don't show up in the stat sheet.

"He is listed as a safety but Jonathan plays pretty much exclusively as our nickel corner and he has really been a shutdown player for us in the slot," said Geezy.

"(Defensive coordinator) Coach (Steve) Ellis and I watched a lot of tape this week, self-scouting ourselves, and Jonathan is a guy that has really stood out and always seems to be around the football. The performances he's turned in go unnoticed because pass breakups don't really show up on the stat sheet or on the stories you guys write, but he has been tested deep on multiple occasions this season and no pass seems to be out of reach for him to knock down."

The former 3-star prospect and Bellaire, Texas native has 24 tackles, 1 interception, and 7 pass deflections so far this season.

Coley, Hill, and McKnight each decided to commit elsewhere this week.

Tulane | Tulane misses out on 3 recruits
            Thu, 5 Oct 2023 15:12:24 -0700
            report courtesy Eve Jewell, TulaneInsider.com

Eve Jewell of TulaneInsider.com reports that Tulane was dealt three significant blows this week in their recruiting efforts, losing out on three players ranked near the top of their recruiting board, all of whom visited the school on the weekend of the Green Wave's 28-3 victory over LSU earlier this season.

Blue chip Louisiana OT Lamar McKnight (6-7, 306, #5 rated OT) and blue chip Texas OG Brett Hill (6-5, 275, #1 rated OG) elected to sign with LSU and Notre Dame, respectively. Both players were thought of as potential day 1 starters for the Green Wave, who is set to lose senior LT Ramon Mills (84 ovr) and senior LG Daniel Hall (94 ovr) after this season.

4-star North Carolina ATH/DB/WR Brett Coley (6-1, 180, 4.32 40-time, #4 rated ATH), who was rumored to have given Tulane a verbal committment following the team's win versus LSU, announced via Twitter that he would be signing with West Virginia.

After a poor start to the season, Allen has been near-flawless in recent weeks.

Tulane | QB Allen estatic about new offensive approach
            Thu, 5 Oct 2023 17:17:14 -0700
            report courtesy Charissa Thompson, FoxSports.com

Charissa Thompson of FoxSports.com reports that Tulane junior QB Bryce Allen (89 ovr) attributed his team's newly found offensive success to the installment of more tight end and running back usage in the passing game. Allen started the season by completing just 21 of 46 passes for 381 yards with 1 touchdown and a whopping 7 interceptions through his team's first two games, leading to the Green Wave's first 0-2 start since the 2010 season, which was head coach D. Geezy's first season with the team.

Allen has since followed up the horrendous start by going 48 of 67 for 736 yards with 8 touchdowns and 0 interceptions during the Wave's subsequent three game winning streak.

"I talked about how important it is to use the tight end back when I first signed here and sure enough, we finally got that going with Ronnie Parsons," said Allen of his sophomore tight end, who is coming off a career-high 7 receptions for 103 yards in the team's 42-17 victory last week versus Vanderbilt.

"My first year we had Ryan Jean, so the tight end kind of wasn't really a centerpiece of the offense, then we had an offensive coordinator change, going from Steve Spurrier Jr. to Curtis Byrd. Thankfully, Coach Byrd brought in this new system this season that is very tight end friendly.

"The more we use the tight ends and (running back) Tony Tompkins, the more efficient we become offensively. I feel like this system suits me better than any other I have been in and I can't wait to see how much better we get here as the season rolls along."

Tough one to take on the recruiting front, especially the offensive linemen. I am especially surprised by McKnight going to LSU after watching you stomp them. Oh well hopefully you can show him the error of his ways in the coming seasons. And having Coley renege on a verbal is no fun either. Hang in there my friend.

Love the piece on Allen and Parsons, definitely a nice depth piece. I really think opening up the tight end and running back will keep your passing attack running well oiled.

I picked up on the reference! One of the many great R&B groups from that era.

This is still awesome as always. Nice to see Tulane start to get on a roll now.

Thanks Cheese. I was stunned by McKnight's decision, as we were in first place for his services most of the season. He chose the Tigers without even taking an official visit.

Coley was the one I was most stunned about though. He had given us the soft commit and seemed like a shoe-in. I was really anxious to see what his 4.32 speed could do; he looked like a prime candidate to either play WR or play as an under-sized LB.

Appreciate the compliment on Allen...I had forgotten that I had written that previous piece about Allen liking his tight ends and was pretty surprised when I saw it when re-reading the thread recently, so I felt it would be cool to take that trip down memory lane, back to when he first signed with us.

Glad someone remembers. You guys were making me feel old. And now to make myself feel even older...

I'm going to be taking this weekend off from the game. My now sophomore 15 year old son and I (yes, the same son I once ran a co-op Northwestern dynasty report with back when he was in kindergarten), will be going out this weekend for a lobster dinner, movie, and bowling, as a reward for him getting straight A's on his report card for a second straight quarter (it also provides us a nice excuse to get out of the house for my 8 year old girl's slumber party, which will have our house full of loud little girls and a few moms; though I am sure my 3 year old son, who is already into girls, will love it).

So like my team, I will be observing the bye week and get back to action next week. Thanks all for continuing to follow!

TULANE GAINS TWO MORE 4-STAR COMMITMENTS AT NEED POSITIONS
Versatile Louisiana FB J.J. Williams brings a tremendous mix of blocking, running, and catching ability to Green Wave backfield, could start immediately next season | Texas CB J.T. Hills not the fastest, but considered one of the best "ball-hawking" cornerback prospects in the nation | After losing out on two offensive line prospects, Wave now turns attention to pair of juco options

                      Report by Eve Jewell, TulaneInsider.com

Despite having the weekend off due to a bye week, the Tulane Green Wave got good news yesterday, landing a pair of 4-star prospect commitments Sunday night. Jonesboro, Louisiana FB J.J. Williams and Sweetwater, Texas CB J.T. Hills formed a friendship during their week 5 visit to the Tulane campus and the two of them took to Twitter late Sunday evening to inform the world over their decision.

"J.J. and J.T. headed to the N.O. #commitwave," the pair both tweeted simultaneously, along with a picture they took together on the sideline during Tulane's 28-3 victory over LSU at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome a few weeks ago.

Williams, 6-0 226 pounds, is considered to be the nation's #1 available fullback prospect, according to both ESPN.com and Rivals.com. As a junior last season at Jonesboro-Hodge High School, he rushed for 1,647 yards and 12 touchdowns while catching 17 passes for 223 yards and 3 touchdowns as a feature back in the Tigers' option attack, proving himself to be very versatile as both a runner and pass catcher while also showing tremendous blocking ability in both the running game and passing game. His decision came down to SEC rivals Tulane and LSU, according to family sources.

Hills, 6-1 192 pounds, is the nation's #18 rated cornerback according to ESPN.com. Playing for the class 4-A Sweetwater Mustangs, his 13 interceptions ranked #1 in the state of Texas during his junior season and he currently is tied for the state lead with 3 interceptions through 5 games this season. He did not time well in the 40-yard dash however, reportedly running just a 4.52 this past summer, but his coverage abilities along with his great hands and ball-hawking skills have made up for the lack of elite foot speed. Hills had narrowed his choices down to Tulane, Texas Tech, and Arkansas before ultimately choosing the Green Wave.

The pair of signings brings Tulane's number of commitments up to 6 this season. The team is set to lose only 8 seniors after this year which in effect will limit the quantity of its 2024 recruiting class, however more scholarships could become available due to transfers and early NFL draft entrees after the season.

                      JUCO LINEMEN TARGETED

After losing out on two blue chip offensive line prospects last week, Tulane has now turned its focus to two 3-star junior college offensive linemen to possibly help fill immediate voids due to the looming departures of senior LT Ramon Mills (84 ovr) and LG Daniel Hall (94 ovr).

Ohio OT Calvin Smith (6-4, 279 pounds, #62 rated OT prospect) and Alaska OT Matthew Cole (6-4, 275, #108 rated OT prospect) are considered to be two of the top available junior college offensive line prospects in the nation, both considered viable right tackle and offensive guard candidates at the next level. According to team sources, the pair of tackles are at the top of Tulane's overall recruiting board at this stage.

Cole is reportedly considering Tulane, Oregon, Washington, and UCLA while Smith is considering Penn St., Ohio St., LSU, Arkansas, and Tulane. Both could be visiting the Tulane campus within the coming weeks.

                        ....................8 1/2....................

2022: Former Tulane CB Garrett Shuler (LEFT) caught an interception and then-sophomore LB Chuckie Coley (RIGHT) had a game-clinching fumble return touchdown on what was a dominant day for the Green Wave defense.

Last Meeting: Then-#2 ranked Tulane played one of its sloppiest games of the year, however they were still able to control the game, rolling past overwhelmed Auburn 35-7 last season at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Despite the team putting up 35 points, the Green Wave offense managed to score only 1 touchdown on the day. The team would however get 4 field goals by former Wave PK Chris Coleman, defensive touchdowns from both former DE Jonathan Schultz and then-sophomore LB Chuckie Coley, and a safety by FS LeCharles Smith. The victory improved Tulane head coach D. Geezy's record to 9-0 overall versus the Tigers.

2021: Then-true freshman QB Bryce Allen caught Auburn in an all-out blitz on 3rd and short and found WR Brandon McIntyre wide open for what was essentially a game-clinching 73-yard touchdown that made the score 26-7 midway through the fourth quarter.

Last Meeting at Venue: Two seasons ago, #8 Tulane took care of business, amassing a 19-0 lead before eventually prevailing in a 29-13 victory over Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Then-true freshman QB Bryce Allen threw for 369 yards and 3 touchdowns while fellow true freshman WR Brandon McIntyre hauled in 7 receptions for 192 yards and a touchdown in a game that was never really close.

Jimmy Wallace has been saving Marcus Johnson this season from the looks of the numbers. If the front seven can keep Wallace in check, I think Johnson will throw Auburn out of the game.

I've never seen a four-star fullback in my experience playing NCAA. Great haul with those two, JT Hills has potential with that length.

Good luck against Auburn. Their run game is great (as usual) and overall their roster is pretty average.

I noticed the same thing; Johnson has been tossing picks left and right and playing like the freshman he is. Hopefully we can get an early lead and take Wallace out of the game. He's literally the only avenue I see for them to beat us unless we play like crap coming off the off week.

Yeah those 4-star fullbacks are a rarity. I was pretty pumped when I saw him available, and in Louisiana, and with us at the top of his list. I have a feeling he will turn into a fan favorite during his time in New Orleans.

I agree with your assessment of Auburn. Their entire roster is "average" with just a handful of above average guys (their RB, RE, and safeties namely). They look like the type of team that can sneak up on us if we let them hang around though, especially if Jimmy Wallace gets going early. We allowed Vandy's running back to go off on us, so that's something we must correct for this one or else we could find ourselves in some trouble.

Thanks fellas...time to kick this one off. Feels like it has been forever since I played and it has only been two weeks!

#12 Tulane scores three non-offensive touchdowns in a dominant 48-16 victory at #21 Auburn | RB Tompkins takes two punt returns to the house in what was his second straight big week on special teams | In a game that was close at halftime, team scores 28 straight second half points to pull away | Date at Kentucky next up for suddenly surging Green Wave

Auburn, AL -- Going into this week's game at #21 Auburn, 14th year Tulane head coach D. Geezy had seen only one punt return touchdown by his team during his time in New Orleans. Saturday afternoon, red-hot sophomore RB Tony Tompkins doubled that total on his own, taking two punt returns to the house while helping spark his team in a 48-16 blowout victory at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The big game for Tompkins came on the heels of last week's sensational performance in which he returned two kickoff returns for touchdowns during the Green Wave's 42-17 home victory over Vanderbilt, and it was one of three non-offensive touchdowns scored by the Wave against the Tigers during the contest.

Prior to the game, the Green Wave had only one previous punt return touchdown during Geezy's 14-season tenure; Tompkins doubled that total by himself on Saturday.

Like last week's blowout win over the Commodores, the game got off to an inauspicious start for Tulane as they fell behind by a touchdown early. Auburn senior RB Jimmy Wallace's 6-yard scoring run capped off an 8-play 73-yard drive and gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead. Wallace finished the contest with 58 yards from scrimmage along with 2 total touchdowns.

After Green Wave freshman PK Aaron Larson kicked two field goals, one from 28 yards away along with a 39-yard second quarter field goal, the Wave got its first big non-offensive play of the day moments later.

With his team trailing 7-6, Wave sophomore MLB Sean Williams lined up in man-to-man coverage versus Tigers WR Geoffrey West. West ran a 5-yard out pattern in which Williams covered perfectly before picking Tigers freshman QB Marcus Johnson's pass off and returning it 16 yards for a touchdown that gave Tulane a 13-7 lead.

"Sean could not have read that play any better. He is really turning into a playmaker in the passing game at the linebacker spot," said Tulane defensive coordinator Steve Ellis of Williams, who also had an interception during his team's 30-25 week 2 loss at Notre Dame.

The Green Wave's momentum would not cease there, as Tompkins got his big day going. After the Wave defense forced a quick three and out following Williams' score, the former 4-star recruit and last season's "Return Man of the Year" award winner's 61-yard punt return touchdown made the score 20-7 midway through the second quarter. The punt return touchdown marked the first for Tulane since former Wave RB Deuce Monroe returned one 57 yards for a touchdown early last season, which to that point had been the only one scored by the Wave under Geezy.

Auburn (5-2) would attempt to stay in the game, getting a 10-play 63-yard touchdown drive that made the score 20-14 to close out the second half, however, after the halftime break is when the floodgates opened for the Green Wave to roll through.

Tompkins' 63-yard punt return touchdown early in the third quarter was his aforementioned second of the game and increased Tulane's lead to 27-14. Despite having a somewhat quiet game on the offensive side of the ball, gaining only 59 yards from scrimmage, Tompkins finished the afternoon with 5 punt returns for 155 yards along with the pair of scores that would eventually provide momentum and help ignite the Green Wave offense, which had yet to score a touchdown during the contest.

WR Jason Mason and RB Tony Tompkins celebrate Mason's 90-yard third quarter touchdown that made the score 34-14 and blew the game wide open for the Green Wave.
QB Bryce Allen, who earlier in the game threw his first interception since week 2 as his team seemingly sleep-walked through the first half, finally got things going in the second half. Allen's 90-yard touchdown pass to WR Jason Mason on a go-route made the score 34-14 midway through the third quarter. Mason finished the game with 3 receptions for 105 yards and the game would get put away soon after his long score.

After Wave FS LeCharles Smith Jr. forced Auburn RB Corey Chase to cough up the football and senior OLB Ja'Adam Wilson recovered on Auburn's next possession, Tulane went for the kill. WR Brandon McIntyre's head-turning one-handed catch in the end zone capped off a 6-play 26-yard drive and made the score 41-14 with under two minutes remaining in the third quarter.

The touchdown signaled the end of the day for Allen and the Green Wave starters, who sat out the entire fourth quarter. Allen finished the game 18 of 30 for 280 yards and 2 touchdowns before exiting the game.

"This was a good all-around win and all three sides of the ball contributed to the final score, which is rare," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy.

"There are some concerns we need to work on, such as pass protection after giving up 4 sacks today including the safety near the end with the second unit, and I thought we were somewhat ineffective offensively in the running game, but a win is a win and you take them any way that they come."

Tulane (4-2) will travel next week to face Kentucky (1-5) next week at Lexington. The Green Wave blew out the Wildcats 45-10 last season at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Senior RB Tim Powers shushes the crowd following his 63-yard fourth quarter touchdown reception in the final minutes of Saturday afternoon's contest.

On what was Auburn's "white out" day, Tigers players run out of the smoke-filled tunnel onto the playing field for pregame festivities.

Auburn RB Jimmy Wallace dragged in OLB Chuckie Coley for a 6-yard touchdown that gave his team an early 7-0 lead.

Return man dynamo Tony Tompkins was electric for the second straight week on special teams, showing off his blazing 4.30 speed twice on Saturday on punt return touchdowns.

Auburn freshman QB Marcus Johnson's 8-yard touchdown pass to RB Jimmy Wallace cut the Tigers' deficit to 20-14 just before halftime and seemingly put his team back in the game.

Junior DT Mikeangelo Daniels' stuffed RB Corey Chase behind the line of scrimmage on this third quarter carry.

Wave FS LeCharles Smith celebrates following his forced fumble that was recovered by teammate Ja'Adam Wilson late in the third quarter.

Six plays following Smith's forced turnover, WR Brandon McIntyre's spectacular one-handed 5-yard touchdown reception all but put the game away, making the score 41-14 late in the third quarter.

RB Tony Tompkins won his second consecutive Player of the Game award and his third overall this season following his magnificent performance.
