Re: MLB Network Presentation Confirmed For MLB The Show 17
There's nothing wrong with Matty V. There's a lot wrong with the guy writing the lines he says in The Show, as well as the dark and soulless room he reads them in.
Get a new script writer and a better soundroom (and use the SAME soundroom for all three guys) and I think the commentary would be 5 or 500x better.Comment

Also I would be willing to bet Sony realizes this too. I think it's just that it would be a huge under taking to completely overhaul the commentary from the ground up.
Take for example lets say your kitchen in your home is like 25 years old and needs a make over. You could go about it 2 ways. Gut it and redo everything or instead you could just do smaller things like replace the cabinet doors, some fresh paint and so on. It seems to me Sony is choosing to go the quicker and cheaper way by just replacing the cabinets and some fresh paint instead of the complete overhaul.
It sucks but that is just the way it is I think
Also just to be clear I am not ripping the MLB The Show developers in anyway and I think they are the best in the business. I just don't always agree with some if there design decisions.
In my opinion the commentary does not match the rest of the amazing quality that is MLB The Show. If this was the early 90's then fine no problem but it's 2017 and the current commentary is just not cutting it any longer!Last edited by tnixen; 02-18-2017, 12:51 PM.Comment

And another thing I know we are all super excited to see MLB Network now included. But I think I need to keep my expectations at a minimum because as far as we know maybe the only thing we are getting for year 1 is the MLB Network logo on the Scorebug and other overlays. We may not be getting NBA2K style pre and post game studio shows or anything even remotely like that until 18 or even 19.
Sorry for being such a pessimistLast edited by tnixen; 02-18-2017, 01:18 PM.Comment

Interestingly, I want to say the old script guy went to EA? IIRC
Anyway, just my 2¢...

I think that'd be good for special occasions in franchise or rtts though (opening day, all star game, post season etc.), but not needed for every game like 2k.
I think a sideline reporter would be a good add for the new presentation though.NFL : Atlanta Falcons
MLB : Toronto Blue Jays

Actually, last year was the first year with a new script writer. And I think you can (hear) a move in an improved direction with audio presentation in 16. That said, the person that was doing it before was pretty much there from the beginning, so there was no way it could all be revamped in one year.

I think the bigger issue is that the 3 commentators do not talk to each other and do not sound at all like the 3 of them are in the booth together. To me that's what is killing the commentary in MLB The Show. Plus Matty V does not really ever sound excited like he can get in real life. That is more of an issue then bad scripts in my opinion.Comment
