HUUUUGE win over Bama with Clemons doing what he needed. While their offense was hard to stop, your team stepped it up when it needed to the most and when it mattered. Very strong win for sole possession of the SEC West.

Good to see Michigan still hanging strong. Hoping you guys face them in the Natty, granted both you and them stay loss-free these last couple weeks. I know I am very biased toward my Wolverines but if you guys win it all against them I won't be mad because you deserve it.

I'm not sure if you follow my U-M dynasty, but controversy's arising in the BCS game in mine. I haven't posted about it yet, but two teams similar to your Tulane team this season may have a shot at making it.

BIG WIN! However, with the trouble Arkansas has given you in the past, I'd be careful.

What a win! Clemons did his job and filled in admirably despite the INTs, but Powers was the real workhorse and showed how he can carry that offense with a huge performance. I'm shocked that the pollsters threw you ahead of Alabama just because of your 2 losses, but that's what happens when you make a statement!

(Also, that all green jersey combo is fantastic.)

          1) What an awesome game and win against Bama! Those all-green sets have some magic in them!

          2) Just curious, been following for a while, but has Mississippi St. just fallen off the wagon? I know you replaced them in the SEC and I haven't seen their name since lol

            Thanks David...

Michigan has a couple of tough games left here versus Wisconsin and Ohio St. It would be great to get to the N.C. and face them. Michigan (2018 N.C. game re-match), along with USC (2017 N.C. game re-match) and Boise St. (2023 season opener rematch) would each make a great end-of-season storyline should we get lucky enough to make it.

There is definitely some BCS controversy brewing here. I will start reporting on the rankings next week, but let's just say the boys from Boise aren't too happy right now!

Thanks Bookwork...Arkansas has played us very close lately. We barely beat them last year 20-17 at the dome, it was 27-24 the year before that at their place, the year before that it was a 34-27 overtime win at the dome, and of course, who could forget the 62-27 smackdown they put on us in 2019 in Fayetville.

I am not taking this game lightly at all. The last thing I want to have happen is for that Ole Miss game to be do-or-die for the division, and of course, we still have national title dreams.

Appreciate it Moose. I was discouraged by the INTs from Clemons, but two of them were those cheesy, hit while throwing type INTs that land right in defenders' hands.

Powers is really becoming that bruising back I thought he would be at the start of the season. Between him and Tompkins, we are going to be tough to beat down the stretch here.

I expected Bama to fall behind us; what is surprising to me though is that we didn't go a slot or two higher than we did. Those 2-losses are really hurting us, as they should be. We still have a chance though. As long as we can get to about #3 or maybe even #4 going into the SEC title game, hopefully against a top-ranked Florida team, we will have a great shot to make it to the national title game, which happens to be in New Orleans this year.

Thanks bro...you're right, those all green uniforms certainly bring a stroke of luck to us. We seem to be unbeatable at home when wearing those. I don't think we have lost a single game in them since we moved to the SEC back in 2014.

As for Mississippi St., they're still around, but they've really fallen off the map. They're a perrenial cellar-dwellar in Conference USA. I try not to mention them (or teams such as Texas A&M or Missouri) too much just because I don't like to remind myself or readers that this isn't the college football world of today, where those schools would be in the SEC.

So yeah, the Bulldogs are there, they just haven't done a darn thing worth mentioning throughout this entire dynasty in any way, shape, or form.

              Game 10, Year 14 Preview (2023 season): #8 Tulane at #15 Arkansas

              GAME 10 PREVIEW

              Courtesy

Latest Line (courtesy Bovada - Las Vegas):

              ....................3 1/2....................

2022: Then-sophomore FS LeCharles Smith Jr. stripped Arkansas RB Dane Yates of the football and former Wave DE Jonathan Schultz recovered it and returned it 51 yards for a touchdown. The fumble return touchdown was Schultz's second in 3 games and ended up being the game's deciding points.

Last Meeting: Just like each of their previous two meetings, Tulane and Arkansas played a very tight battle, but in the end the #1 ranked Green Wave made just enough plays to hold off the #9 ranked Razorbacks' upset bid, winning 20-17 last season at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. In a game which saw the Wave score only one offensive touchdown, a 73-yard opening-possession scoring hookup from QB Bryce Allen to former Tulane RB Deuce Monroe, the Green Wave defense stepped up when needed most. Former Wave DE Jonathan Schultz's fourth quarter 51-yard fumble return touchdown made the score 20-10, helping his team win despite giving up 151 rushing yards to Arkansas RB Dane Yates, including a 64-yard fourth quarter touchdown with 3:18 remaining which created the game's final margin.

2021: Then-true freshman QB Bryce Allen and former Green Wave WR Ryan Jean's 14-yard touchdown hook-up made the score 27-17 midway through the fourth quarter.

Last Meeting at Venue: The then-#4 ranked Tulane Green Wave got off to a slow start, falling down 10-0 to the home-standing #8-ranked Arkansas Razorbacks, however clutch performances helped the Green Wave overcome and win a close 27-24 battle two seasons ago at snowy Fayetville. Then-junior FB Eric Harrell's career-long 70-yard touchdown run gave the Green Wave a 20-17 lead in the third quarter that they'd never relinquish and a 14-yard touchdown pass from then-true freshman QB Bryce Allen to former Wave star WR Ryan Jean provided just enough cushion for their team to hold off a pesky Razorbacks squad. Harrell finished the day with a career-high 120 rushing yards and helped Tulane salt-away the win with his power-running in the game's closing minutes.

2020: On the first possession of the second overtime period, Tulane QB Jimmy Williams slid to the left and found WR Ryan Jean, who got past CB Eric Butler, for a 21-yard touchdown which ended up being the game-winning score.

Last Meeting III: Unranked Arkansas stormed out to an early 14-0 lead, however #8 Tulane was able to comeback and eventually won 34-27 in double overtime three seasons ago at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. After watching the Razorbacks force overtime via a 36-yard field goal by PK Brandon Carey on the final play of regulation, former Wave QB Jimmy Williams' 21-yard touchdown pass to then-sophomore WR Ryan Jean in the second overtime provided the game-winning points. Williams finished the game with 347 passing yards and 4 touchdowns while Jean finished with a whopping 12 receptions for 215 yards and 3 touchdowns in what was one of the signature performances of his career thus far.

Based on the preview, this match-up looks very even. Their running game's red-hot and their passing game looks efficient based on their QB's stats. They can and probably will give you fits.

                Good luck!

Arkansas always gives Tulane a tough battle, but on paper it looks like the Wave should have the edge. Arkansas doesn't have a lot of speed, and their WRs against your CBs kind of even out. Bryant Temple might cause a mismatch speed wise but I wonder if he has the hands to make an issue.

Orlando Daniels seems like an interesting player, and Josh Ramsey is going to have a tough task as a freshman going up against Jason Mason who's picking up the slack lately.

Good luck, following as always. Need to finally get the urge to pick back up my own dynasty.

My friend, I am sorry I was away for so long. Real life picked up again for a bit. I am finally all caught up though. I have been sipping on a mixed drink in a Philadelphia hotel room while reading this. Not sure it gets much better than that.

I absolutely loved the way Obi played over Alabama. Talk about stepping up to the limelight. I am not sure there is a bigger stage than that. I do worry whether he can keep this up. I feel like Clemons has always had the ability to come in and make a splash as something different for the offense but have my concerns about whether he can do it week in and week out.

It worries me with Arkansas on the horizon. On paper they look pretty average and maybe even down from years past but they always play you close and have a knack for spoiling seasons. I will never forget the Erin Andrews 60+ point hotel saga of yester-years.

Glad to be finally all caught up on this and back along for the ride. Fantastic work from the best as always!

Had to go back and catch up after being away for awhile. First Allen goes down then the back up Obi starts against Bama and gets the W. I couldn't have hope for anything better had I been here at the time that game was played.

Pesky Hogs up next. Looks like this could be another great battle. Hopefully Obi and Tompkins can control the ball and work the clock in your favor. With the game being Fayetteville I know the battles that have played out there not just between the teams but also the crazy weather. Stopping their Rushing game which ranks 8th in the country could be a tall task, but I like your front 7s chances of plugging holes and gang tackling.

Thanks David...Dane Yates is someone I have nightmares about trying to defend. It isn't mentioned on the preview, but he has a 99 BTK rating!

If he gets rolling early, we could find ourselves in some trouble.

Orlando Daniels is definitely a freak of nature. He is 6-3 211 pounds, has great speed, plays linebacker, nickel cornerback, and returns kicks. He's like their version of Jabrill Peppers, only taller.

I didn't get the opportunity to document it with an article last season, but Josh Ramsey was the #1 cornerback in the nation and is a player we went very hard after in recruiting, however in the end he elected to sign with his home state Razorbacks. I'm looking forward to the matchup between he and Mason. Ramsey has some very good speed, so we may have to try to move Mason around to try to find a favorable matchup downfield.

It's all good Cheese...we all get busy at work from time to time. I have actually been pretty swamped myself lately.

Obi has been quite a find. Back when we recruited him, I envisioned him as more of a project/developmental guy that could perhaps be a player that we count on for a couple of option plays each game. I was very pleased to watch this former 3-star recruit step up in the biggest game of our season and deliver when needed. Storybook stuff there. I must say, it was very fun using a mobile QB again, a la Curtis Byrd back in the day.

Arkansas has certainly been a thorn in our side throughout the course of this dynasty. I will never forget the day they beat us in the snow in OT, ruining our perfect 2015 season and chance at a BCS title.

Erin Andrews hotel saga? I don't know what you're talking about.

I hope you're right. Looking at their roster and their stats, it looks like Yates is this team's bread and butter. I am hoping we can run the ball well and keep him and his offense off the field. As I said before, if he gets rolling early, we will be in for a long day.

Hopefully the weather is bright and sunny. It has snowed more times in Fayetville in this dynasty than it probably has in real life Arkansas games. Seriously, when have you ever seen an Arkansas home game played in the snow?!

Thanks guys...About to fire this game up for some rare Tuesday afternoon action!

For a second straight week, Tulane has no problems erasing a 24-10 first half deficit, this time defeating Arkansas 41-24 in freezing Fayetville to clinch 2023 SEC West division title | QB Clemons, RB Tompkins, and WR Mason each shine again in crunch time as Green Wave scores 31 unanswered points to close out the game | Team will face #2 Florida in SEC Championship Game in December | Wave cannot afford to overlook 5-5 Ole Miss squad that has yet to lose by more than a touchdown this season

Fayetville, AR -- Last week versus #4 Alabama, Tulane trailed 24-10 just minutes away from halftime before going on to score 17 unanswered points to come away with a 27-24 victory at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. This week, after surrendering three 2nd quarter touchdowns to Arkansas RB Dane Yates, the Green Wave found themselves down again 24-10 just before halftime. However, QB Obi Clemons' 77-yard touchdown pass to WR Jason Mason with only 0:34 remaining in the first half ignited the Wave as they went on to score 31 unanswered points en route to a 41-24 victory over the Razorbacks Saturday in frigid Fayetville, where temperatures dipped below 30 degrees by the fourth quarter.

WR Jason Mason had his second straight big game in injured #1 WR Brandon McIntyre's absence, finishing with 94 receiving yards, including with this 77-yard touchdown that cut his team's deficit to 24-17 and got Tulane's momentum rolling just before halftime.

Yates, who finished the game with 17 carries for 75 yards with the aforementioned 3 touchdowns, got most of his production in the game's first half before the Tulane defense clamped down on his team's offense. Razorbacks QB Calvin Fowlkes got off to a particularly hot start, going 15 of 17 for 255 yards in the game's first two quarters, as his team amassed its big lead and looked to be headed towards a blowout, similar to the 62-27 thrashing Arkansas put on then #1-ranked Tulane during their 2019 campaigns.

That all changed in the second half however. Using a steady mix of multiple blitzes pressures, Fowlkes would get held to completing just 2 of 7 passes for a staggering -1 yard for the entire second half while Tulane's offense also played a key role with its ball-control attack.

Led by QB Obi Clemons, making his second start in place of the injured Bryce Allen, the Green Wave went on a 15-play 87-yard drive which lasted 5:33 to open up the second half. Clemons' 14-yard touchdown pass to RB Tony Tompkins was their second touchdown hookup of the day and culminated the long drive, tying the game up at 24-24 with 3:26 remaining in the third quarter.

After forcing a quick three and out on Arkansas' next drive, aided by a third down sack by DB Jonathan Smith on a nickel back blitz, Tulane's offense got right back to work.

A 9-play 52-yard drive that lasted 3 minutes and bled into the fourth quarter ended with a 9-yard touchdown pass on a corner-flag route to Mason that gave the Wave a 31-24 lead with 8:05 remaining in the game. Clemons finished the game 10 of 20 for 196 yards and 4 touchdown passes with no interceptions, while Mason finished with 3 receptions for a team-high 94 yards and 2 touchdowns.

CB Tyler Harrison and the Green Wave secondary stepped their games up in the second half, holding Fowlkes to -1 passing yard after giving up 255 in the first half while also snagging this third quarter interception.
"They had a lot of problems getting us off the field and (defensive coordinator) Steve Ellis and his bunch did a tremendous job of keeping their offense off the field," said Tulane head coach D. Geezy, whose team held Arkansas to just 0:50 of possession time in the third quarter.

"Offensively, we just had a lot of success running the football, both with our running backs and also with Obi. We found ourselves in a lot of third and shorts and finished the game 12 of 16 on our third down conversions; that played a big role in us limiting their opportunities with the football."

Wave sophomore CB Tyler Johnson's interception just three plays into the Razorbacks' next drive gave Tulane the ball back with 7:00 remaining. After yet another time consuming drive, aided by a 20-yard run by Clemons, the Wave got a 41-yard field goal by freshman PK Aaron Larson to go up 34-24 with 3:54 remaining.

Then, following a turnover on downs at Arkansas' own 27-yard line with 3:06 remaining, the Green Wave went for the dagger. To conclude a 6-play 27-yard drive, Clemons' option pitch led to a 5-yard touchdown run by Tompkins to put the game away at 41-24. The score was Tompkins' third of the game and he finished with 159 yards from scrimmage, including 119 rushing yards.

The win for the Wave clinches their first SEC West division title since 2021, after watching Alabama win the division last season. They will face currently-#2 ranked and defending conference champion Florida in the SEC Championship Game at Atlanta in December.

Next up for Tulane will be a date with Ole Miss (5-5) at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, a team the Green Wave blew away 59-7 last season at Oxford. The Rebels are coming off a 29-24 loss to LSU and are a team whose biggest lost this season was a 24-17 defeat at the hands of Alabama at Oxford back in week 8 while also having a 24-21 week 6 loss at current-#2 ranked Florida on their resume.

RB Tony Tompkins jumped into the arms of RG Jay Bonner following his 19-yard first quarter touchdown reception, his first of three scores on the afternoon.

Arkansas players take the field on a sunny but frigid day in Fayetville.

Arkansas QB Calvin Fowlkes picked apart the Green Wave defense in the first half, throwing for 255 yards in the game's first two quarters.

Razorbacks RB Dane Yates spun threw CB D.J. Keyes' arm tackle attempt for his first of three touchdowns in the first half, this one giving his team a 10-7 lead.

Tulane RB Tony Tompkins burst through for a big gain but was uncharacteristically chased down on this 63-yard second quarter scamper which would end up netting the Wave a field goal.

Arkansas sophomore WR Adrian Washington was his team's go-to guy Saturday, hauling in 7 receptions for 99 yards from the slot position.

Tulane's defense overwhelmed Fowlkes in the second half with blitz pressure, including this third quarter sack by nickel back Jonathan Smith which forced a quick three and out on the Razorbacks' opening second half possession.

QB Obi Clemons' running ability made it difficult for Arkansas' defense to get stops in the second half. Clemons picked up several key first downs with his legs and finished with 43 rushing yards on 9 carries.

Green Wave TE Ronnie Parsons fought for extra yardage at the conclusion of this 24-yard second half reception.

WR Jason Mason's 9-yard touchdown reception on a corner-flag route was his second score of the game and gave the Wave a 31-24 fourth quarter lead.

Tulane QB Obi Clemons and Arkansas MLB Adam Mooney shook hands after the game in which the pair gave each other fits all afternoon. Mooney was all over the field Saturday, finishing with 11 tackles.

Huge victory for your team to clinch the division and a beauty of a comeback as well. Clemons coincidentally is my system's QB archetype: Efficient, smart, and most importantly, mobile. I'm sure you're having a blast when he does what he's supposed to do.

Seems like blowouts were the norm this week; Michigan, GTech, and USC all demolished. Looks like BCS season is in full swing!
