Re: Early Impressions of MLB The Show 17

I am really struggling with the CAF face creator. I cannot create a face that looks like it deserves to be in the game. And the new Eye Engine or build or whatever...I think the eyes look more like painted ping pong balls than I have in any other version... This game is such a step forward for the franchise that it is alarming to me how the face and eye features feel so out of place.... To me..... Just my $0.02

Just a thought regarding retired numbers??? Why not prevent rosters with retired numbers from being uploaded and shared... but allow individuals the option of changing the numbers and using retired numbers for offline play? So then if I choose to make Nettles #9 for my offline created roster/season... no one knows?

Quick manage is much better then fast forward, fast forward was to fast to jump in

        That a great improvement.

Do you guys think the ball looks almost transparent at times?

Game is great so far, ball physics are the best I've ever seen in a baseball game. Human AI is decent, but honestly I'm almost seeing too many mistakes by the AI. In my small sample size I've only had a double play turned against me when the ball is hit to first base. Anything hit to 2nd or short never gets turned. Loving the pitching decisions by the AI though. All in all it's the best game of the series.

              <full disclosure> I only play franchise.

If they would have added the new ball physics, increased frame rate, and animations and left everything else the same as MLB 16, I'd be a very happy camper. The sound is just nowhere near as good, and I am surprised at what a big deal it is when playing. Last year (once I upped the volume on all of my MP3's) everything music-wise in game sounded GREAT. Now, the bass seems to be missing from walk-up and pitcher entrance music. I am wondering if I have ultra-sensitive ears or something, because I seem to be the only person who thinks that the game sounds terrible. :P

Also, have to mention the new commentary. It's very much improved, except for volume issues. Matt V's volume varies from one line to the next. Dan Plesac sounds good most of the time, but when you hit a home run, you can't hear a word he's saying. It's just so inconsistent.

Lastly, the new classic stadiums. Love them.

News flash all video games commentary is repetative, there are no exceptions. To point that out as flaw is... People point to NBA 2K and that game repeats the same lines all the time, and it doesn't take a 2nd game, it repeats the next play the next quarter ect... I don't get this so called dig at The Show that does what all sports game does. It's a dumb point and it's meaningless, just a talking point for people who think there is something better and it is not.

I would say you made an impetuous statement, but have to agree.

It's interesting that the author chose to frame the server problem on a "flurry" of gamers "logging on at midnight." As if they should have all waited until they got the all clear and logged on like gentlemen, or that SDS had everything set up perfectly but it's those unruly gamers who upset the apple cart.

Come on, not even a mild reproach for the Man? Wouldn't it be worthwhile to let your readers know - especially those thinking about buying it to play online - that those server issues are worse than ever? Can't strain those cozy relationships I guess.

it takes away storage space though i.e. more equipment, uniforms (I know, I know...the style guide) and other "little things" the game may lack. Overall, the game is near perfect.

I don't know a whole lot about programming and video game development, but I can't imagine Retro Mode taking up enough space that would prevent more equipment, uniforms, or other things to be added.

Retro Mode is basically just different camera angles, a few gameplay/visual/audio wrinkles, and a different control scheme.

disclaimer: I am in love with this series and was one of many who traded in their xbox for a ps just for this game. my opinions is basically this game is so great yet, it could be so much better....

While I understand everyone's obsession of the intro video....its not part of gameplay. It has no affect on the game whatsoever. Yeah, it's a great visual, very well done....but I watched it once and will advance passed moving forward. I just think, again, if its taking up storage space for the overall game, it doesn't have to be a major detail. IMO they could release that as a YouTube video as a teaser and the game could load right at the opening screen and I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Very similar feelings. If that intro doesn't put a lump in your throat you're not a baseball fan. (LOL I"m old enough to remember watching Aaron's 715 when it happened so that really grabbed my attention.

Agree. CAPs still look like CAPS. You can still easily tell who is a CAP and who is face scanned. Ramone said it would be harder to tell the difference this year. Lol. That said, Mo makes some good CAPs.
