How successful do you think 2k17 was overall?

With all of the major patches and fixes done with at this point, I think it's safe to say that we're playing the final version of NBA 2k17 with the exception of maybe a few more small shooting tweaks. How successful do you think the game was overall considering how hyped up it was?

EDIT: By success, I mean game wise. Nothing to do with sales or revenue or anything like that, I'm talking strictly as a basketball game, do you think it was as good as you were hoping it to be.

EDIT 2: The point of this this thread was to hopefully show 2k that changes need to be made in 2k18

Pretty good, but I'm still sitting & waiting for the removal of 5 out.

The defensive CPU logic just can't handle iso's & pick n rolls from that formation well at all.

No...but what exactly do you determine as a success?

As far as business and sales go? This game was very successful, highest selling 2K if I recall?

Success as in being able to deliver a good sim basketball game? In my opinion, there was a point during the cycle, around Patch 4/5 I think, where the gameplay was so bad that I had to stop playing it. At that point it was easily the worst 2K I had ever played. Luckily, the game was saved through a ton of patches and the while the gameplay is still not great it's playable now.

My fault, I should have clarified better. Check the first post, I made an edit and elaborated more.

Very successful. It plays a good game of basketball, presentation is the best in the market by a long shot and its all very fluid.

However, I still don't think its reached the heights of 2K Pinnacle (NBA 2K11). I feel like everything after that has been a bit bumpy and I don't know why.

Re: How successful do you think 2k17 was overall?

The past two installments of 2K has caused me to anticipate what Live will bring to the table this year. I used to be able to chain games together at 12min quarters on HOF (2K15), but now I lose immersion after the first game. Too many head scratchers, whether they go my way or not. I think 2K needs to refocus on gameplay and features of gameplay, which I thought were the hallmarks of 2K, and actually caused my transition from live. As a huge mycareer fan, I would really like for all the linear cringe cutscenes to be lessened, and focus on immersive gameplay options (coach and GM sit downs for example), additional diverse commentary to follow your career (for more than one year) and immersive in-game aspects like your coach asking you to guard another team's star, not play fourth quarters of blowouts (instead of asking out and acquiring simulation stats for the rest of the simulated game), and achievable goals scaled to your level of play that offer rewards in mycareer (requesting players, asking for different coach or scheme, interacting with owner about NEW uniforms or ways to brand yourself as the star of the team). The little things go a long way.

I'm an offline player, I always think it's successful. Even with AI issues, you adjust sliders to make the game play as you want. My personal sliders treat me perfectly. I'm challenged every game and have to play smart to win. If I was an online player, i'd probably hate the game. So I voted fairly successful, cause Im happy with it, but I know others aren't.

too many game breaking fails like game not loading, modes nto working, unable to play with friends, etc. the list goes on.

IF the game worked as designed than I would give it 9/10 but in reality it is 6.5/10.

Re: How successful do you think 2k17 was overall?

I've been playing this game for 17 years now STRONG! Been a 2K head when all my boys were running live. Every year they add *new dunk packages * new shooting forms *dribble size-up moves etc etc etc...it fair to say 90% off all upgrades are made on the offensive side of the ball, once JUST once I'd wish for 2K to solely focus on defence and defence only! Movements, hand in passing lanes, rotations etc. I know defence isn't sexy but it's really needed to balance this game. Scoring should take some type of basketball knowledge...not just zig zag speed dibble and dunk ...that's not real ball...

                    just my two cents...

Re: How successful do you think 2k17 was overall?

This pretty much sums it up for me:

I recently decided to join a sim league. After my first few games I found myself not enjoying it as much as I'd hoped. I almost started to blame the other players until I thought to myself...It's not them, it's the game! The terrible rotations, the bad player awareness, the way situations in the game don't play out like they would IRL. I could go on and on...yet I continue to play, mainly because it's really all I have for my basketball fix. The game really needs to go back to the basics of basketball: For example boxing out, ball movement, defensive rotations. You have to get those things right before you can have a chance at a good game of basketball. With that said, (even though the game sold well) this was a failure IMO.

I'll start off by saying I like the game. I do.

BUT, it is frustrating, and I feel that simple things have taken a huge step back.

-Shooting has been insanely frustrating for me. Wide open shots from highly rated shooters in their hot zones are constant bricks. Shooting is way too unforgiving and way too challenging. I shouldn't be shooting under 30% from 3 with wide open shots from 3 point shooters rated 88-99.

-Load times are insanely awful, sometimes requiring a full restart or 2 just to get the game to load.

-Simple things like auto substitutions not taking out players who are in foul trouble, or auto subs overriding manually made substitutions.

                        -No wardrobe selections for MyGM??

Just a couple things off the top of my head.

I'm a die hard 2K fan but I went with not very successful. On the whole it is a good game. Ironically, I played for the first time in about a month today and I'm loving it again. It feels closer to release day but better. But I cant forget about the past few months with the loading screen hanging. And the general feel of the game just not being fun like past 2K's were. I hope they scale things back for 2k18 and just hammer down on what we have.

Overall, in my opinion its been the best basketball game ever put out by them or anyone else.

Is there some issues, or flaws, that need fixed, yeah. Better sim stats, fix the darn CPU not being given back a timeout after halftime, improved generation draft classes, just 3 issues, that have been a problem for a while now, not just this yr, so it about time they fix them. Star today mode needs some work still, as some of the analytic stats dont show, or they are a mess.

This is from a offline only player, who plays MY League only, have no desire for your gimmick modes, or online play, so I cant judge those areas of the game, other than I think devs spend to much focus on gimmick the gimic modes.

I know you cant please everyone, and there might be a time real soon, when I no longer buy NBA2k, because they seem to be catering to online players, gimic modes, and such these days, but IMO NBA2k17 is by far the best basketball game you have every put out. So if this is it for me, because of the lack of focus on Association mode, atleast I have this game to continue playing, but Im hoping there is a renewed focus on Association, because outside of a few issues, your so close to making the perfect sports franchise mode of all sports games.

I thought the gameplay itself was up and down because the updates and things. It was hard to get a rhythm. I play mostly head to head offline with my friends so I don't have much knowledge on Myteam and pro-am and stuff like that.

I will say the games presentation and technical details were not well done. Just starting the game has been a chore for months now... Gotta be a better way to apply updates... Too many things didn't work or work properly outside of dribbling and shooting. Basically outside of the actually game. The freezing and load times alone are horrendous.

I still play the game often so too me I enjoy it. Just like I'd enjoy driving a barebones gutted farrari... Its still fast and fun to drive.

Basically as i wrote this I was waiting for mycareer to boot up.... Its been 35 minutes with all the freezing...
