    Pink Diamond Ewing

2K has confirmed that it's gonna be Ewing. Seems like timing of drop will probably be with announcement of results of draft lottery, which is at 8pm EST.

Let's please try to keep complaining about locker codes down...I get it. We all get it. It is what it is.

Personally, I'm excited for a chance at an elite Ewing, and feel bad for those who locked USA Ewing and can't get Barkley.

He is in game with this morning's update and profile is up on 2KMTC:

Basically: upgrade from USA version with the outside shot, which is also better than Robinson's. Kind of a lateral option to Robinson: better outside rating, HoF inside scoring badges, higher weight, but slower in straight line and without Robinson's HoF defensive badging.

But should be noted that Ewing does get the unrealistic LQ in 80's and also very good Accel.

Basically USA Ewing with 3ball and Lat Quickness for free. Definitely worth the effort to get, especially for us old heads who grew up watching him play.

Correction: he's better than his USA in a bunch of ways.

And he's decisively better than Robinson, except for Robinson's defensive badging.

Undoubtedly would be my best center, above Robinson, Gasol, and Sabonis.

Great card, one tiny step below Hakeem and Kareem just because of badging. Otherwise, he holds up extremely well for an endgame card with no real weaknesses. The lat quickness is a little below elite level though.

I hate locker codes but Ewing is one of my favorite centers so I guess I'll try to get him. He won't get a C slot because I can't give up HOF rim protector but he would make a great post PF.

Ewing and Hakeem are very similar, but Hakeem has way better badging. I'm hoping they don't drop this one in large quantities like they did Wade, but at least I know I've got the bigs to stop him.

Hakeem is definitely on a different level, don't forget Dream has better 3 and more importantly corner hotspots.

Best comparison for Ewing is PD Duncan. Very very similar players. Ewing has the better athleticism but Duncan has the HOF Defensive Stopper.

Ah, that's right...with what they gave Kareem, Gobert, and Hakeem.

One thing about Ewing, though, is that he has 82 Acceleration, which is elite for a 5. +12 compared to Hakeem. And -15 Pounds, so aggregately, Ewing might actually be better in the mobility sense.

Ewing is also generally more athletic than one sees in the 7-footers with bigger frames (aside from Wilt). 95 Vertical (Hakeem at 85) and 98/90/85 Standing/Driving/Contact Dunk.

That said, I certainly agree that Hakeem is better.

                  Good comparison.

And Ewing's shooting is another big differentiator. Has 3-ball at 84 so less pressure to buff that with a shoe and use shoe elsewhere.

Other big one, vs. Timmy specifically, is that Ewing has 80 Moving Mid. Only Jokic, DMC, and KAT have 80+ Moving Mid, amongst Centers. Hakeem is at 78.

Really nice to have that addition to the midrange and post-up arsenal.

If I can somehow snag this card, he'll take over as my back up center behind Kareem and I can finally move PD Timmy to my one of my last slots. I wanted to pick up that Ralph Samson for my backup but if I can get this instead, I can save my MT for Kobe next week.

Depending on how many they give out, market is going to crash hard for the Beast set and HS Kareem.

You shouldn't feel bad. I'm one of them and I don't feel on way about the releasing this LC. I got USA Ewing nearly 5 months ago and played well over 200 games with him. He's actually still on my because he has a infinite contracts.
I feel Most ppl that locked him in back then don't have any trouble generating MT. They all probably upgrade their center by now or they lost interest in the game.
It'll be messed up for Ewing fans if they don't release a pullable Ewing this year.

Good attitude for you to have. And I get what you're saying. It's how I've pushed myself to feel about USA Robinson, even though better Centers have been released that cost less than he cost to lock in (and his set's component cards are not very good any more).

But I still don't really like how the scale within a color class totally shifts over the course of the game. It makes sense that Moments issues of a player get better and better. Or that, in general, a Diamond is released after an Amethyst and is dramatically better.

But I think it's lame how earlier Diamond rewards (basically all the Historics and a bunch of the Theme) often do not stand the test of time in capability, and definitely not in MT value.

I feel Most ppl that locked him in back then don't have any trouble generating MT. They all probably upgrade their center by now or they lost interest in the game.
I agree with this, but a point should be made that MT became harder to make -- or, at least, less reliably -- after big market crashes.

But, yes...I generally agree with you in that one has to consider how much and how long one used a player card when one considers the value of its acquisition.

It'll be messed up for Ewing fans if they don't release a pullable Ewing this year.
I agree. I guess that I had hoped, for game balance reasons, that it'd be an Amethyst or a lower Diamond. It would make sense for there to be something like a Rookie Amethyst Ewing.

In general, where they really screwed up with big men was with Robinson. Making him so unrealistically mobile in perimeter D, not to mention the 3-point range that isn't justified by his real-life play.

Since him, they've totally obliterated the distinction between defensive specialists, particularly bigs who are better than other bigs at perimeter mobility. There is no reason to play a Gobert, really. Not even a reason to play a Mutombo.

That USA Ewing has been the best post player for 3+ months. If you were one of the lucky ones to pick him up when he was released, that's 3 months of almost unstoppable drop steps, post spins, and up and unders. Definitely one of the most viable reward cards compared to his peers.

Agree with you in general. He's still viable and, yes, most definitely people got a lot of play out of him.

But I still feel like it's one of various glaring examples of poor, "F you" planning on the part of 2K to give away a free PD Ewing that is dramatically better than the very expensive USA Ewing. Also bad was quickly following DI Rockets Clyde with USA Clyde, and then eventually obsoleting USA Clyde with Beasts Clyde. All Diamonds. I don't think they've obsoleted same color classes before, have they?

Anyway, shouldn't dwell on this. This is an old conversation we've gone over a million times.

I'm looking forward to Ewing, if I can get him. Looking at his ratings, a few Shoe boosts intrigue me:
                              • +9 Moving Mid, +6 Open Mid, +6 Contested Mid (Air Jordan II) to get him to 99/99/89 in midrange shooting. Mainly that last boost to 89. Very curious to see how reliable post hop shots are for him, not to mention spinbacks, stepbacks, sidesteps, etc.
                              • +6 Driving Dunk, +6 Shot Contest, +9 Steal (Air Jordan XI Low) to near-max Driving Dunk at 96, max out Shot Contest at 99, and most substantially to increase his Steal for post defense with a big boost to 91.
                              • +6 Ball Control, +6 Contact Dunk, +9 Acceleration (Air Jordan XI) to increase BC to 66 (just extra ball security), Contact Dunk to 91, but especially Acceleration to 91, for what that means for defense and rolling to the basket.

The cheap Silver Nike shoes that give +6 Lat Quickness (to 89) and +6 Acceleration (to 88) would also be good.
