Old Head 2K Dudes: Have You Actually TALKED To The Younger Generation of 2K Players?

I work with Middle School students and I hear them talk about 2K quite often. Some of them are late for school because it and some don't get sleep because they are up all night.

It is always funny when they ask me why I don't "Be Grinding" (MyPark), and they can't comprehend how I am just not interested in playing any, "Create Myself and Play" mode.

They laugh when I tell them I play MyLeague and I control all 30 teams.
They laugh when I tell them I Do Player Lock.
They laugh when I tell them I actually run plays.

When I tell them that I probably only play the game about once/twice a week, they can't possibly understand that.

Then I hit them with this, "Man I have been playing 2K before yall dudes were BORN" I put in my years of service.

But yea, any interactions with younger 2K players? It is always refreshing to see the difference in mindsets when it comes to this series.
    Concrete evidence/videos please

Generally the same experience as you. This game isn't even about NBA ball anymore when it comes to the masses

What age range do you consider to be the younger generation?

I guess playing style will remain the same among the massive, since young or old, if your not hitting 35 threes and generating 15 steals with one player in a 20 minute game you're now consider 2k abnormal sigh.

Yeah I play with some online. All I hear when someone discovers a jumpshots they like are "it's lit" or "that jumpshot is wet" or when someone grab boards "snagging" lol and most of them thinks Kendrick Lamar is a GOAT. I think he's dope but far from GOAT. Oh btw I am 78 years old.

Yep. My little brother is 26 and he recently asked me to create a Myplayer to join his squad. Said they need a low post player and he remembered how I use to dominate down low with old Tim Duncan back in the day. I'm not one for the online stuff but I get it. At 31 I'm the old head, I guess. I still enjoy offline sim oriented franchise mode and the campaign in other games. I see the same thing with my 7 year old son and Minecraft/COD/Destiny. All he does is play with his friends, doesn't give a damn about campaign or any of that stuff. And I'm always buying new DLC or skinpacks or something. It's what gaming has become. The one thing I appreciate about 2K in the sports arena though is that they still care enough to put resources back into offline stuff like ML.

I think it all depends on who you're talking to. Because I'm 19 myself and I dream to have a simulation experience like NBA 2K11 again. I also spend about 98% of my time in My League. But I do feel the same as you guys about these park kids lol. I can't stand them! [emoji23]

I'm 18 but I can't stand these young online guys. They had soo much fun on park last year when all they did was spam Jamal Crawford sizeups and step back until the latency forced the defender out of position and popped a three and they swore it was the prime of 2k gameplay lmaoooo.

I play MyLeague player lock and park sometimes when my friends hop on.
                        ... But hey VC sale!!

Re: Old Head 2K Dudes: Have You Actually TALKED To The Younger Generation of 2K Playe

For the past few years I played with my cousins (though not online, offline when they came over) who were in their teenage years and felt the major differences in patterns of gaming. To their credit, they've gotten better from the days of full court pressing every play to get a steal and playing terrible basketball to being able to have competitive games.

However, the oldest who just turned 18 last fall got an Xbox One and I thought it would be the best of both worlds for me since I have a current crew I run with (all either older or around the same age as me so we think and play the same quite a bit) and my cousin. My cousin however quickly banded onto other players and teams and I can't for the life of me stand the circle he runs with. I don't talk on the mic in general whenever I play with his group because it's a bunch of "I'm open" "your garbage because you missed one shot" to each other that even the in between games talk is awkward and annoying with them insulting one another trying to come off cool and making comments that make me shake my head in terms of political correctness (and I'm not even someone who usually gets all up and arms about that type of stuff). I've also learned far too much TMI about my cousin at times that I did not need to know. They're actually good at the game (well I know my cousin and one of his friends are), Elite 5 or 6 level Pro Am team and I know I've earned a couple of their respect for my play but I just don't gel well with those types of personalities. There's amusing arrogance to me that as long as someone plays well and treats others with respect even if they don't like each other I can easily overlook it and there's downright ignorance arrogance where someone thinks they're so good at the game and can tear down others for it instead of helping or encouraging them.

My 12 year old nephew bothers me about the same things. To have 2K and not bury my head in the MyCareer sand is unfathomable to him.

Old Head 2K Dudes: Have You Actually TALKED To The Younger Generation of 2K Players?

I'm 20 and the "younger generation" is terrible. It annoys me to know end how little they actually know about basketball or how to play correctly yet think they are good repeating a move they saw on YT especially the ones who are bad at it but won't stop and will ruin the game for everyone else trying to do the move or won't play D because they are constant going for steals or following the ball.

All I can say is the park's target audience is not the same as the rest of the game. The guy I play Pro-Am with invited a kid he played with in the park to join us for some walk-on (we were a full team just playing walk on to see if he fit the team) and the kid single handily lost us 5 games in a row because he not only didn't know what a zone defense was but despite me explaining what to do against it multiple times he still somehow found himself in terrible spots taking terrible shots and missing every single one only to say each time that his shot must be broken because that's green in the park. And for those who think that's not too bad this kid also didn't k ow what a pick and pop was or how to do it despite me also having to explain fading after the screen instead of rolling. He also left his man open constantly because he was busy trying to inbound steal.

Basically it's not age thing so much as it's a know anything about basketball vs I saw a vid on YT and it looked cool so now I'm a Hank the Tank baby thing.

Also I feel like the guy who said he is 78 is trolling but if not that is f***ing awesome to me that you love basketball and 2K at that age.
