    Madden NFL 18 Controls - WR/DB Mechanics

Rex Dickson, Creative Director for Madden NFL 18, has just posted the WR/DB mechanic controls for the game this year. The image shows Madden NFL 18 Ultimate Team specifically, so we'll have to wait and see if the controls are the same in other gameplay modes.

Check them out and post your thoughts.

UPDATE: Rex mentions these controls are for all modes.

    All modes.

I gues we can expect new animation and motion from both DB and WR off the line

I don't like this. Just more button combos to press. This type of stuff should be playing out naturally by the players. Like the different catches. In real life a wide receiver doesn't think "hey I need to make an aggressive catch" he just makes and adjustment to the ball and does what he needs to make a catch.

Seems madden is really trying to push that "stick skills" stuff.

Right but pretty sure this is exclusive to MUT squads

See SN promising if this is done by the CPU in context and ratings

Well if the AI is working properly you don't have to press "aggressive catch" or anything just let the cpu make the appropriate decision on its own.

More options in controls should mean more animations and variations, so I welcome this, I'm tired of the 2-5 canned outcomes.

This is for MUT but it clearly shows the direction of not just Madden but the company (EA) as a whole..their CEO said it himself they are moving towards competitive game play period..sad day for dinosaurs like me, who enjoy single player franchise..what the competitive community should be mad about is "scenarios" that read at the bottom..and this has been a Madden problem for years..90% of the time it's not an "instant win instant lose" in football..doesn't matter if it's DB's, WR's, DLine, or Oline..Madden continues to think the best way to show a struggle/battle on the football field, is in a win only lose only scenario.

That's one HUGE if. Like it was said in another thread their response to DB AI not playing the ball was "do it yourself." With such a huge emphasis on stick skills it doesn't leave much room for proper AI because it makes stick skills less of a factor. Obviously this is something that should be a stark contrast between a simulation and competitive setting but I still get the feeling that regardless of setting there is still going to be a huge premium put on stick skills superseding everything else.

Don't be so dramatic.....lol. Just because they do something for one mode...doesnt mean they neglect others.

Not sure where I was dramatic..CEO of the company said they are moving towards competitive game play..and if it was for the DB/WR mechanics/scenarios..well as Madden has currently and in the past been designed..you either win or lose..there is no middle ground..which is what happens most of the time in football..well unless ur Byron Maxwell play CB for the Eagles.

... actually I'm pretty sure wide receivers do make these types of decisions in real life. Making a possession catch and going to the ground happens ALL the time.

Most of it is an adjustment to the ball and situation. Madden should have the where with all to adjust to the ball, the field, and the scenario of the game to have WRs trigger those animations appropriately. Not allow users to make a decision, that takes away from separation of ratings and differential of WRs. It's a gimmick in the video game, and it's not something WRs think every play. Most "aggressive catches" aren't a thought, it's a reaction to ball placement.
