"Win Streak" Threatens Giants' Draft Position

The New York Giants have suddenly won two consecutive games and now share the league’s worst record (3-11) with the Cincinnati Bengals. Would a draft order of Bengals 1, Giants 2 preclude the G-Men from selecting Lamar Jackson? Such a situation would put the Dolphins and Saints in play to trade up, and there is a faction in the Cincy fanbase that wants their team to bungle out and pick Jackson to replace Andy Dalton. That faction is not going to get its way. If the Bengals did pick Jackson, it would be to trade him to the highest bidder. Cincy could also get a bonanza of picks from the G-Men, drop back only one spot, and select the same play they would have at no. 1. At this point, both teams have more motivation to lose out instead of playing for pride.

Dolphins Fire Gase, Burke

The consensus has been that Adam Gase has been in lame duck status since at least October, and now Gase has become the first coach to fail to survive until the end of the 2018 season. Gase and his defensive coordinator, Matt Burke (the successor to Denver head coach Vance Joseph), have been terminated by the Miami Dolphins, effective immediately. The final nail in the coffin was this week’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings, a team that has had Case Keenum under center since Teddy Bridgewater’s career-ending injury. Offensive coordinator Clyde Christensen has been named interim head coach but is expected to follow Gase and Burke out the door in two more weeks. Gase was never able to get the Dolphins headed in the right direction and his status as a quarterback whisperer has taken a hit thanks to the erratic play of Ryan Tannehill, who may also be in store for a change of scenery in 2019. No names have been connected with the vacancy as yet.
