Re: How is your franchise going? Madden 18

J - E - T - S JETS JETS JETS

Previously - Start of 2017 Season

Spoiler

The Road to 0-16

Week 1 - @ Bills L 22-47

The Jets opened 2017 on the road against Buffalo. The Bills received the kick and on the first offensive snap of the game found Jordan Matthews deep for a 80 yard TD. The perfect tone to start the season for the Jets.

Not surprisingly the Jets came out slow on offense and Forte was shut down the first half of the game. After halftime, down 19-6, the ground game starting picking up and the Jets outscored the Bills 10-7 in the 3rd. The wheels would fall off in the 4th though, as the Jets committed 3 turnovers and were outscored 21-6.

(0-1)

Week 2 - @ Raiders L 24-31

Matt Forte was again the focal point of the Jets offense. A tight game through three quarters, and a little sloppy with each team turning it over twice, the Raiders and Jets were tied 17-17 to start the 4th. The Raiders struck first, followed quickly by the Jets. With under 5 minutes ago the Jets were near Raiders territory looking for a go ahead score when Forte fumbled a screen pass, Oakland scooped and scored and came away with the Week 2 victory.

(0-2)

Week 3 - vs Dolphins L 17-31

Quarterback health dominated this game. The Dolphins entered the game down two quarterbacks, and the Jets would suffer an injury as well. Early in the 1st Josh McCown went down with elbow injury and 3rd year QB Bryce Petty entered and immediately threw a pick. He would calm down and lead the team on two 2nd quarter scoring drives.

Down 17-10 entering the 4th the Jets were again in a winnable situation, but once again were outscored in the final quarter. Another INT from Petty and another fumble by Forte sealed the Jets fate.

(0-3)

Week 4 - vs Jaguars L 12-17

With McCown set to be out five games, Petty went up against Chad Henne and the Jaguars in Week 4. Both teams struggled offensively, with the Jets out gaining the Jags 259 yards to 200 yards.

Entering the 4th down 10-9 the Jets were looking at there best chance of getting a win... and a Petty pick 6 later they were on their way to another loss.

(0-4)

Week 5 - @ Browns L 19-44

Week 5 saw a matchup of 0-4 teams. Figured to be a low scoring matchup things quickly changed in favor of the Browns. Tied 3-3 to start the 2nd quarter, Brice Petty threw 2 picks and was quickly shown the bench. He finished with a 10-17 82 yards 2 INT 31.6 rating stat line.

Enter the Hack. Hackenberg took over midway through the 2nd and finished the game. Surprisingly he put together a solid outing, going 13-15 for 156 yards and his first career passing touchdown. Short throws and a single big play made up his yardage. Meanwhile the Browns couldn't be stopped, after scoring 20 in the 2nd (thanks to Petty's INTs) they take a break in the 3rd only to come back in the 4th and score 21 more.

(0-5)

Week 6 - vs Patriots L 7-34

The Hack Attack falls flat. Nothing worked for the Jets in Week 6. The running game was shutdown (28 carries for 73 yards) and the passing as well (8/16 for 144 yards).

The Jets trailed from the start, as the Pats easily marched down and scored on their opening drive. The Jets wouldn't taste the endzone until under a minute left in the game, when Hackenburg hit rookie Ardarius Stewart for a 79 touchdown.

(0-6)

Week 7 - @ Dolphins L 17-30

Hackenburg would break 200 yards for the first time in his career against the Dolphins. He would also throw three interceptions. Once again the Jets were able to keep the game close after three quarters, down 20-17 to start the 4th. And once again the Jets would find a way to be outscored in the 4th, a big thanks to a Hackenburg pick 6.

(0-7)

Week 8 - vs Falcons 22-43

7. Seven. Seven interceptions. Week 8 saw the Jets throw seven interceptions to the Falcons. Hackenburg entered the game on a very short leash, any turnovers and he was on the bench. After a turnover free 1st quarter (6-3 score) he opened the 2nd with a drive killing INT in Falcon territory. Looking to show the coaches he could be more responsible with the ball, Petty took over and overthrew Robby Anderson for an INT on his second attempt. He would leave the game 0 for 2 and not return.

Hackenburg wasn't down tossing INTs, as he would add on 5 more through the course of the game. An ugly stat line indeed, but not so ugly if you remove his 4th quarter performance. Down only 26-22 the Jets had a shot to beat the defending NFC champs. But 4 INTs later that wasn't the case, as again the Jets get outscored in the 4th, 17-0.

Hack's INTs were very unlucky in the 4th. An overthrow towards Stewart, a tipped pass off of Anderson's hand, Ricardo Allen tipping a ball to himself, then a tipped pass from Keanu Neal to Ricardo Allen. Allen finished the game with three INTs and a touchdown.

The Jets hit their lowest of lows in this game... or have they?

Around the league

Perfection denied! - The Patriots quest for a perfect season ended before it could start. After loosing game one of the Preseason they followed it up with a Week 1 loss. They are currently 5-3.

Bortles is back! - Chad Henne guided the Jags to a 3-1 start, but uneven play dropped them to 3-3. Bortles was given another chance and won his first game back. The Jags sit 4-3 coming off their bye week.

Cowboys in no Rush! - With Zeke suspended the first 6 games, and Dak injured the first 10, the Cowboys were hoping they could strike gold twice with rookie Cooper Rush stepping into the starting QB role. This hasn't been the case, as Redzone inefficiencies and a down year on defense has left the Cowboys in a 1-6 hole. Can their season be saved?

West Coast Perfection! - You may not find an undefeated team in the North East, but you will find one in the North West. The Seahawks currently sit 7-0 and is the only undefeated team left.

Suck for... Sam? - Is Sam Darnold the next big thing at QB? Who knows, but currently he ranks as the unanimous #1 overall pick. And there are plenty of teams in the running for the first pick in next year drafts. The Jets (0-8) lead the way, but five other teams sit with only a single win; the Browns, Bears, Texans, Cowboys, and Giants. Outside of the Jets these teams don't look like potential landing spots for Darnold. Will we see another massive trade for #1? Or will the Jets continue their quest for 0-16?

MVP is a QB thing! - Rodgers, Brady, Wilson, Rivers. These are the top four currently in the MVP race. There is still plenty of time left for another player to emerge, but it's looking like a QB only show. Le'Veon Bell currently sits at fifth, perhaps after signing his 5 year extension he wants to add an MVP trophy to his 2017 payday?

Eight down, Eight to go

The Jets season may be going different than expected, story line wise, but the results are on par with expectations. Todd Bowles is on the hot seat and with a potential of an 0-16 season his time in New York seems very limited. The Jets have gone with four straight defensive minded coaches, and with a struggling defense unit, and a chance at a Franchise-changing QB prospect, perhaps they will go for an offensive mind this time around?

Only time will tell. (but I think y-e-s YES YES YES).
