    Defensive Strategy

I created this thread to try to help out people who are struggling especially on the defensive side of the ball. I for one, can admit that I don't really have a strategy when it comes to defense. I'll randomly switch from man to zone, throw in some man and zone blitzes.

This game has really exploited that by me getting absolutely torched. So I would like some peoples opinions on strategies, plays, who to control, whether to switch, etc. about how to play defense in Madden 18.

By the way, I am using Armor & Swords sliders. All-Pro, 10 minute quarters and I am in a CFM with the Vikings.

    Thanks guys.

    Re: Defensive Strategy

I'm a fan of bend and don't break.

Match up the number of wide reviewers with corners on the field.

I also like changing up the plan on key third downs. For instance if I have been runing a lot of zone I'll switch to man or visa versa.

Try to make all d's look the same, if your nasty blitz has a particular setup, have man and zones from the exact same look as well.

      Re: Defensive Strategy

I go with a bend but don't break defense normally as well, but I've been more aggressive due to how poorly I've been playing this year. I generally run some form of cover three on downs where I anticipate a run, I don't play much man coverage or blitz too often and I usually go with some form of cover two on third down. If I blitz it's usually a zone blitz so that I'm not leaving anyone on an island, although I will do a cover 0 blitz if I'm selling out vs a run

        Re: Defensive Strategy

I received an e-mail from a reader asking about coverage philosophy and game planning. So here goes. Our base coverage concept is a mat...

This article should help you prepare for various formations and game situations you will face. A few questions you must answer before you head into a game:
        1. How will you defend 3×1formations?
        2. How are you going to handle bunch and compressed sets?
        3. How will you play empty formations?
        4. How are you going to to play 3rd and long, medium, and short?
        5. What are you going to call when your opponent only needs a FG to tie the game, or take the lead?
        6. Red Zone Defense:
Know how your going to play +20, +15, +10, +5, Goal Line.
        7. What are you going to call when you absolutely must get the ball back.

This isn't a full list, but it's enough to get you headed in the right direction.

There isn't much working on pass defense this year. As long as scrub QB's are ending up with 90% completion because of dumb USER AI, its going to be tough sledding. I've never struggled this much on D. Using the Seahawks, and still giving up a ton of points. There is no boom in my legion!
