Did you mean 1988 Bengals vs. 1989? 1980 Eagles instead of 1981?

Yes, 1980 Eagles and 1988 Bengals. Super Bowl teams. Bengals are a tough call between 1981 and 1988. The 2004 Eagles are more fun than the 1980 Eagles but I think the 1980 team was better.
04 Eagles and 81 Bengals should both be on the second round.Comment

I used computer sim software Second and Ten, which is a number cruncher, and sim the 1980 and 2004 Eagles in 100 head to head matchups, and did the same for the 1981 and 1988 Bengals, to see which team won the most.
The 2004 Eagles and 1988 Bengals won the majority of their matchups, respectively. The 2004 Eagles won 55 of 100 games, and the 1988 Bengals won 2/3 games.Comment

Interesting. Going by Pro Football Reference's Simple Rating System (point differential net of opponent point differential) there's no comparison. 1980 Eagles were borderline dominant, best in the league that year. The 2004 team finished ranked 9th. The 04 Eagles had a super easy schedule.
I was wondering if TO's injury had a big effect but it turns out he only missed the last two regular season games (would have sat week 17 anyway I think) and the first two playoff games.Comment

Spartan appreciate the work man that is time consuming I did a roster with just about all same teams on ps4 m16 under greatest teams from 78 steelers to 13 seahawks. 78 steelers or 05 over 08 if you want and 04 eagles are very fun had them on my roster.Comment

I'd go with the 1989 or 1988 49ers over the 1994 team for the simple reason that the teams with both Montana and Young were immune from a QB injury. Almost any great team in history loses their QB they'd be screwed, but Young might have been better than Montana by 1988/1989.
1994 49ers will be on round two.Comment

PLEASE do the 06 Ravens on your next go-round.
The two Superbowl teams are obviously their most famous, but 2007 was the absolute best version of that defense. Lewis, Suggs, Bart Scott, Adalius Thomas at LB. Kelly Gregg and rookie Ngata. DBs - Ed Reed, McAlister, Samari Rolle, and Dawan Landry. Rex Ryan as DC.
If Steve McNair isnt completely broken down by seasons end, they beat Indy and NE and mollywhop the Bears in the Superbowl. One of the greatest "what if" teams of all time and (by many metrics) the best Ravens defense ever.Comment

Yeah, the 2006 Ravens were probably the best team in franchise history.
There's a few ironies like that, the 2006 Colts were one of the weaker Manning-era Colts teams but they were the one that managed to break through and win the Super Bowl. The 2011 Packers stormed to a 15-1 regular season before losing in the playoffs, the previous year's not as good team won the Super Bowl.
The 2008 Giants were awesome but lost in the playoffs, the 2007 and 2011 Giants were just okay in the regular season but got hot in the playoffs and won it all.
2006 Chargers also really stand out. Awesome, awesome team with Tomlinson's unreal MVP season, Phil Rivers coming into his own, a great O-Line and defense. Lost a tough playoff game to the Patriots in the second round, but still probably the best Chargers team ever.
Looking at this 2006 was a really interesting season in the AFC with those great Chargers and Ravens teams being upset by the Colts and Patriots in the playoffs.Comment

Fair, and after questioning myself I think I've changed my mind. '94 definitely the most talented with Davis, Norton, Sanders, McDonald, Hanks, Young, Stubblefield, Jackson, and Plummer (little known fact; Plummer's moustache completed 27 bench reps at the combine), and pretty much every per-era data comparison I've ever seen ranks the '94 49ers as the 2nd best offense of all time (behind the '93 49ers).
That said, the '89 team not having that early season identity crisis the '94 team had and outscoring their playoff opponents 126-26 is pretty compelling evidence in their favor.
