NBA 2K18 Looks to Blur Lines of Gaming with The Neighborhood

Blurring the lines. That's the goal all games look to achieve, perhaps even more so in...

I dont see why they keep pushing the feels like GTA everywhere. There's a bunch of games I can name where you can walk around.

Unless they haven't announced more to the neighbourhood, is walking to a in-game barbershop really changing the way sports gaming is played.

Im not into all the online modes, Im just a MyLeague guy, but with this whole neighborhood thing, does this mean, if I want to go into that mode, Im I able to watch others play? I really dont have any desire to play online against other humans, as Im old and my brain and reflexes dont work so good these days, so I wouldnt be much competition for anyone, nor do I enjoy getting a beat down every game either, lol. But if I can go into that neighborhood and just watch others play, that would be a neat addition. I actually enjoy watching some people who know how to play basketball, and they play together as a team an not this 1 on 1 BS, lets just dunk and shoot 3's concept I see so much of with online players.Other than some of the stupid looking players that people make, and some of the moronic outfits they wear, I enjoyed watching the 2k tournaments the last couple yrs.

How many Gigs is this game going to be?..I wonder how good 2K gameplay could be if they hypothetically scratched my player and Park altogether and focused solely on 5v5 NBA gameplay. Where would it be right now?

Just a random thought here. Was just watching Ronnie/LD2k's periscope right now and Ronnie was throwing shade at NBA live for taking the face scan idea. Then saying he was sure some other game will steal the Neighborhood idea.

Just thought it was funny since I remember other games doing some version of face scans before. Like EA's fight night. And I know NBA Ballers Phenom over a decade ago had a Neighborhood like feature/idea. Obviously NBA 2k might be doing those ideas better currently, but that doesn't mean they didn't get ideas from others as well.

The part about 2k potentially adding cars in a future version doesn't even sound absurd anymore. I have a feeling we'll look back at this Neighborhood thing in a year or 2 and be glad it was just for 2k18. If they do however expand on the idea and add more GTA type stuff like cars and property then people will want a bigger game world and guns and heist missions...

This franchise is generating a lot of money and they're dreaming big but it's a slippery slope

Thanks for the replies, guys. I wanted to generate discussion w this piece as I do believe it's a heavy shift in the way we play a sports title, but wanted folks to discuss in more depth than any 1200 word write-up could hope to do. Operation Sports, we are the hardcore, and I knew better than to tell folks what to think.

2K is a fantastic studio and dev team, and it's hard to please everyone. I know most WILL be pleased with Neighborhood, generally speaking, but also felt open dialogue would be most useful to folks here at OS, so I intentionally left the piece more open-ended.

I view myself as an offline player, fan of my career, but like to play online sometimes.

And this neighborhood it doesnt bother me IF MyCareer is not set aside and if they keep putting into work on the offline mode.

I mean if we want to play only offline and be a 99 only offline we can no?
