How do you use Ben Simmons?
This guy is sucha special player in real-life and 2k, just wondering how you guys use him, do you play him at the 1, 3, or 4? I can kill it with him at PG but don't want to cheat, it really feels like I am cheating because in 2k you can just use him and post up the CPU's PG all day, so now I use him at the 3 and sometimes 4, and just attack with him through pick and roll/ pop with the PF or C, so just wondering what you guys do with this dude...Tags: None -

For PGs, even if they're not set as a play initiator they will still receive the ball on the inbound once in a while.Comment

Re: How do you use Ben Simmons?
Fultz will make an excellent 2 guard. I don’t know where that leaves JJ but the 6ers have a lot of fun lineups they can put out there.
As far as Simmons in 2K, I found him to be essentially worthless in 17. Driving to the paint was futile because of the brick wall psychic defenders, and he has absolutely no jump shot.
Hopefully with the new movement system and AI, along with actually being able to beat your man off the dribble, Simmons should be much more dangerous in 18.

Re: How do you use Ben Simmons?
I tend to run spread pick 'n' roll then rotate between Simmons being a roll man and a ball handler. He works well at both and in a spread offense. In any offense, he really needs to be ball handling, setting a pick, or cutting otherwise Simmons just clogs up the offense because he sure can't shoot.
To facilitate spread pick 'n' roll I prefer to run Simmons at 4; it's a mismatch for traditional 4 to cover when he ball handles, additionally, his quickness/speed is deadly when running at the rim as the roll man.
It's not cheating, however within the context of 2K, positions are kind of non-sense. Let's imagine the world where it's Cavs vs 76ers and 76ers run this lineup:
1: Simmons
2: Fultz
3: Covington/Redick/Random 76ers Wing
4: Saric
5: Embiid
Will the Cavs guard Simmons with Thomas? Of course not, IT's a foot shorter. LeBron would probably guard Simmons, maybe Crowder in the right lineup.
So if you're watching the game and LeBron is guarding Simmons and Simmons is bringing up the ball, is Simmons a PG or a Point Forward? I suppose it depends on who Simmons guards but it doesn't seem optimal that Simmons would guard Thomas, maybe JR Smith if Covington is at 3, but certainly not Thomas. Thus, the situation ends up as:- Simmons' is the primary ball handler
- Simmons is guarding Smith, Lebron, Crowder, Korver... Maybe even Frye, since Frye is just a shooting threat on offense.
- Simmons' and LeBron/Crowder is guarding Simmons...
What is Simmons? Seems more like a Point Forward. If this is 2K with two decent players, Simmons is a PG and both teams are altering the defensive matchups.
In this regard, positions are kind of silly machination of making the game more understandable. I definitely think it'd be better if 2K just auto matched up by size and skill set rather than by position. It'd also relieve the non-sense that goes on with putting people in out of position for a mismatch and the mismatch is derived by a single player being out of position rather than the lineup itself creating a mismatch with an unusual lineup like when Warriors go Curry-Thompson-Iggy-Durant-Draymond.

Re: How do you use Ben Simmons?
I play him at the 3/4. Basically, use him the way he plays in real life. I push hard in transition with him, pretty much going coast to coast or going for a flashy pass off every board. In the half court I get him post touches and sometimes take midrange jumpers off pick and pops or if he's spotting up, sometimes he can knock those down, also he's pretty good on the offensive boards.
A lot of people put him at the 1, he is not a point guard, he is a point forward who can bring the ball up and initiate plays. In real life he'd be dusted trying to defend smaller PG's who are much quicker laterally. In 2K those weaknesses aren't really as pronounce and it puts opposing players/CPU at a big disadvantage with him playing PG.Comment

Re: How do you use Ben Simmons?
I changed his position to PG and had him defend 4's on defense. Exactly what we are going to do when the season starts....if you guys saw us during the summer league even with Simmons NOT playing Summer league Fultz was playing the 2.Comment
