Packer QB Brett Hundley Dealt To Miami For Moore, 3rd Rounder

Packers Trade: QB Brett Hundley
Dolphins Trade: QB Matt Moore, 2018 3rd Round Pick

The Packers and the Dolphins collaborated on a trade today, as Green Bay sent young quarterback Brett Hundley to Miami in exchange for veteran backup Matt Moore and a 2018 3rd rounder. Miami's quarterback situation is less than ideal at the moment, as starter Ryan Tannehill is likely out for the upcoming season due to a knee injury. Although Miami signed veteran signal caller Jay Cutler, the Dolphins were looking for some youth and mobility at the position, and they acquired that youth and mobility in the form of Hundley.

Hundley, just 24 years old, was a 5th round draft pick in 2015 for the Packers, after a historic three-year career at UCLA, where he started all three seasons at quarterback. Though he hasn't seen much action at the professional level, he's shown flashes of potential in practices and preseason games. With some opportunity to shine in Miami, Hundley could be in for a breakout season if he's able to steal some playing time away from Jay Cutler.

For Green Bay, they did this deal simply to acquire the upcoming 3rd round pick from Miami. Although they lose a solid quarterback prospect in Hundley, they receive the valuable pick as well as veteran backup QB Matt Moore. Moore, 33, played college ball at Oregon State, entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2007, and has seen spot starts in Carolina and Miami. He has accumulated 6,077 passing yards, 41 touchdowns, and an 82.0 passer rating throughout his career. He should be a steady backup behind star Aaron Rodgers.
