1st experience SuperMax Round 1 frustration

So I played my first Sapphire Supermax game today. I thought I had a pretty good team:

    Gold George hill
    Gold Avery Bradly
    Emerald Artest
    Emerald Draymond Green
    Ruby Shaq

    Bench
    Saph Irving
    Silver Wes Mathews
    Gold Crowder
    Gold Ibaka
    Gold Howard

    Total cap 1450.

    First guy I played:

    Saph Irving
    Ruby Hawkins
    Ruby somebody can't remember
    Ruby Raheem
    Ruby Shaq

(btw, all the Rubys were fully gold badged with the key badges like deep range deadeye, corner specialist, catch and shoot, etc)

    Bench
    Emerald Bibby
Bunch of silvers, most importantly 7'3" Boban Marjonovic

    Two observations:
    1) The cap means nothing. If you can field a roster of 4 rubys and a sapphire this early wtf will it mean later?
    2) Height is still grossly broken in NBA 2k, especially in MyTeam where you need to get budget players to fill our your bench. Boban is a 73 overall, and he went 10 for 10 with 2 blocks. Over Shaq and Howard. Nothing I did mattered, he just shot over everyone.

He beat me, with Raheem and Marjonovic scoring over half his points. I only stayed close via very good 3 point shooting.

If this is indicative of what the new SuperMax gameplay is going to be like, I might just stick with offline...

How is the frame rate? Did you notice drops after time outs?

I've been playing this afternoon. Tons of lag and frame issues after time outs, yes, but game is still playable. I'm 4-1 in diamond right now. Estimating I need 2 more wins. 1 if I'm lucky. I'm wondering, do you get Camby right as you hit 1600 pts or do you have to end the round next week over 1600 and don't get the card until round ends?

Op, your tram is not bad at all. But when there is a cap restriction Any amount below the cap you are is a disadvantage. If you get your team to 1775 on the dot you will feel even with everyone. It's quite cool.

I actually think maybe they should force everyone to be 1775 on the dot. No more no less. Completely lvl playing field. But then again badges and stuff are so crucial under a salary cap. I don't know how that dude had all his guys badged up?? Maybe bought a ton of packs. I have no badges in anybody and I don't really even see many badges in the AH yet.

MTO is still such ***. The amount of bull**** that happens to me every single game rivals that of 2k17 at its worst. And everyone has ruby shaq... everyone. He's so dominant. Sorry if I wasn't down to pay more for the game, now I have to play against Shaq every single game without a dominant center of my own? This is CANCER.

Cheesers running around the top of the key with Steph are back. 5-out screens at the top of the 3pt line every single possession is back. And my blood-boiling, controller-destroying rage is back in full force. ****. This. Game.

A lot of people I've played still haven't adjusted to 2K18 gameplay and still use the same 2K17 strategies. Some of it work like 5-out to an extent but a lot of the stuff doesn't.

Same principles for online 2K as last year though, lower turnovers, play calm and collected, and always run a C/PF back for paint defense.

I know people have different definitions of 'hardcore'. But if the assumption is that in order to compete on the very first round of SuperMax, you need to either have spent $150 on Legend edition, or completed historic domination in less than a week, I think that's a bit restrictive?

Sure in a few weeks most people will have 1775 teams without too much issue. But as it is, the level of commitment to get to 1775 is still 40+ hours of game time and/or $50-$100 minimum of real money. For a game that's been out a week. I mean the guy I played had already unlocked 3 collections and had Legend edition.

My real concern is that this is only the beginning. That maybe next time around the cap will be 2225, then 2750, and pretty soon we'll be seeing all-diamond lineups like in 2k17 with no good options for less dedicated players (who are still playing a LOT).

I'd love to see 3 tiers. Maybe a 1250 tier, a 1775 tier and a 2100 tier, with lesser but still interesting rewards for the lower tiers. That way there's good opportunities for everyone to get competitive games.

I hate that frame rate drop. It's crazy they haven't found a fix for that yet. Makes online play really frustrating .

I haven't even touched supermax yet. I figured I'd need to put out a team that's pretty near the cap to compete. So I am working through domination. I really didn't have a lot of issues with cheese in pack and playoffs though.

Is the frame rate drops a ps4 issue because I haven't had any issues on Xbox?

Re: 1st experience SuperMax Round 1 frustration

I've experienced some lagging on the PS4. I'm not sure that's the same as 'frame rate drops'. 3 pointers are real hard to hit online in my experience so far, a lot of games where both teams shoot about %15. I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to deal with that. I think I just need to spend more time playing online, though with so many offline modes this year I feel less interest in doing so as of yet. The pack mode kind of sucks in that you get no MT, so I have very little desire to play it, which is a shame. Good idea, but with long games and no MT, it seems kind of a time waster.

Once I finished Current Domination I Was right up near the cap. But I also had gold edition with Shaq and Kyrie. One thing I didn't realize is that you get a TON of MT for the last 3 Current Dom matches. I haven't really spent it but that makes a big difference.

I still don't think the expectation is that you should have to finish current domination to be competitive in SuperMax, but once you do, its much more fair.

Opponent leaves match with me having a 10-point-lead at the beginning of the 4th quarter -> loss for my record -> -107 on the board

I'm really confused right now. The last few games i've played my opponent hits a crazy amount of contested shots and layups. 3pt shooting is way harder for me but for my opponents it seems like the opposite.

I pride myself on playing good defense and always try to make every possession tough for the opponent, but even when i get a block or tip or force a missed shot, they just get the ball back or get the offensive rebound. It's really frustrating and i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong.

My guys aren't blowing rotations or anything....its just that we can barely get a stop even when in good position.

Has anyone been able to read the popup message that says you are playing someone who is still qualifying? It is so long and only there for a second that I haven't made out what the whole thing says. I think it says your record won't be affected because it didn't change when I won 2 in a row, but I still got the points. What is the point of the overall record not changing when you can still level up?

Yeah. I even looked at Mikes twitter to see if they touched shooting cuz i played 2-3 games in a row where me and the opponent shot 50-60% on 3’s (with more than 15 attempts). Most of the guys taking the shots were just 79 in Open 3PT shot max
