Too bad they're not going to get it. Lance Moore. All the way.

With those numbers... if he doesn't win we need to boycott the Heisman Trust or something.

Haha, yeah they've pretty much dominated this entire football season. I think Kirk and Lee are on crack with their prediction.

I'm sure Deuce Monroe is happy with his decision to leave Tulane right about now.

Yep. It's pretty neat that the entire group of finalists comes from the three top undefeated teams. This truly is a pretty star-studded group across the board.

Lance Moore's season has been incredible to say the least. I have never seen a player put up the types of numbers he has, especially for a CPU team in a video game. Literally like every game for him was a double-digit catch effort.

What's also pretty cool about Lance, I went back and looked and he was an unheralded 3-star recruit with a current 84 overall rating. Rarely do I root for other CPU teams' fake players from afar, but you can't help but root for a guy like that.

No kidding. As I mentioned above, I just have never seen anything like that before, not in this dynasty or in anyone else's over the years. The norm in this game as far as top WR stats is pretty much in line with real life. To have this type of extreme anomaly is quite remarkable.

Can't disagree there. I think it's BS. Moore should have been the winner, hands down.

should be an easy win although given the kind of season y'all had, nothing's guaranteed.

Just because you wrote it there I had to go look: Tulane is 1-2 against Michigan State in basketball, winning their last meeting 81-58 in 1982 (courtesy Sports-Reference).

Not high ratings for Sparty. I'm going to guess Lawson has a good day in the slot, not too many people as fast as him going to be on the field. Robinson could be a problem over the top, but if McBride can draw his attention to Mason and McIntyre, Lawson should have a lot of daylight.

No question about it...we can not taken any game for granted at this point. Quite honestly, considering our injuries, this is a pretty even matchup on paper IMO.

Nice catch on the basketball. I swear I googled Tulane-Michigan St. basketball, specifically thinking that the two teams HAD to have met at some point, but I guess I somehow overlooked it.

I agree on the matchups in the passing game. We'll want to get the running game going some, but you're right, it looks like their secondary is ripe to be picked apart. This will be both McIntyre and Mason's final game at Tulane, so I don't want to take away too much of their shine, but Lawson should feast on those slot corners with his size and speed. I'd also like to see Money McBride continue rolling with the spark he's provided through the air.

Thanks fellas...Time to kick this game off on a random Tuesday morning!

Game 13, Year 15 (2024 season): #14 Tulane Green Wave at Michigan St. Spartans

                                #14 21 -- 9-4
                                N/A 24 -- 9-3

QB Jimmy McBride was sacked an eye-popping 13 times during Wednesday's New Year's Day clash with Michigan St. and got taken down three times by DE Pierre Green alone.

Tulane's bid for a 13th consecutive double-digit win season gets derailed in dreadful 24-21 loss to unranked Michigan St. | Green Wave offensive line unable to solve Spartans defense, surrenders a whopping 13 sacks | After a strong early effort by Wave defense, Michigan St.'s offense comes alive with second half scoring flurry | Coach Geezy's squad now head into a crucial off-season following disappointing, injury-ravaged 2024 campaign

Tampa, FL -- Up 14-0 in the second quarter following a breath-taking 60-yard touchdown run by suddenly resurgent and budding star QB Jimmy McBride, #14 Tulane looked set to cruise to another bowl victory during legendary head coach D. Geezy's 15th campaign with the Green Wave. However, despite the early domination, the Spartans came alive in crunch time, making enough plays while also accumulating and stunning 13 quarterback sacks defensively to come away with a 24-21 victory in Wednesday's New Year's Day Outback Bowl victory. McBride and the Wave offense turned the ball over three times, including two fumbles by the redshirt freshman signal caller, and got virtually shut down most of the second half by the Spartans' 31st ranked defense.

Michigan St. SS Dylan Logan's stripped the football out of the grasp of redshirt freshmen QB Jimmy McBride on just the second play following halftime and it led to a game-tying touchdown that set the tone for second half domination by the Spartans defense.

The two teams played nearly a scoreless first half, as both defenses took control early. Two Michigan St. first quarter drives resulted in stops on 4th and 2 from the Tulane 10-yard line and on 4th and 1 from the Tulane 15-yard line, with the Spartans electing both times to bypass field goal opportunities.

Following the scoreless opening quarter, Tulane grabbed the first lead of the game late in the second quarter when McBride found fellow freshman, RB Michael Brown Jr., out of the backfield for a 13-yard scoring connection that made the score 7-0 just before halftime. Brown Jr.'s third touchdown reception of the year capped off an 8-play 48-yard drive, and the Green Wave offense looked to have its groove back despite surrendering 7 first half sacks.

"I thought both teams came out flat offensively, whether or not that has to do with the time off between the season and the bowl game, I don't know, but on our end, we certainly were not anywhere close to as sharp as we were when we ended the regular season," said Tulane offensive coordinator Curtis Byrd.

Tulane would increase its lead in the third quarter when McBride was able to scramble and find the open field down the sideline for his career-long aforementioned 60-yard touchdown run that made score 14-0. Michigan St. would not fold however.

A 1-yard touchdown run by senior RB Patrick Fry capped off a long drive to answer McBride's touchdown and put the Spartans right back in the ball game, making the score 14-7.

Then, the Spartans would get another shot of good fortune on Tulane's next possession. After a 63-yard run on an option pitch to Tulane FB J.J. Williams put the Green Wave deep in Spartans territory, Wave sophomore PK Aaron Larson's 42-yard missed field goal with just over two minutes to go in the third quarter gave Michigan St. the break they needed and kept the margin to within one possession. The miss was Larson's fifth of his sophomore slump of a season, as he finished just 12 of 17 on field goals this year after going 23 of 25 as a freshman in 2023.

"That one really hurt. I thought at that point that we were still in control, but anytime you miss a field goal, its a win for the opposition, and I thought it made an impact pyscologically," said Geezy.

"Missing field goals as often as we did this year is not something we're going to accept and is certainly an area we will need to improve upon, whether that's with Aaron getting better or us bringing in competition this off-season at the position."

Early in the fourth quarter, Spartans SS Dylan Logan's strip of McBride on a scramble resulted in a fumble that was recovered by senior DT Larry Kaplan and set their team up with the ball in Tulane territory with a chance to tie the game. And that they did.

MSU QB Mark Bonner's 35-yard touchdown completion to true freshman WR DaRon Washington tied the game up at 14-14 with 7:57 remaining. Washington finished the game with 3 receptions for a team-high 72 yards.

Michigan St. QB Mark Bonner threw a deep pass that resulted in a jump ball that WR DaRon Washington came down with for a 35-yard touchdown that tied the game up at 14-14 despite being draped in coverage by Green Wave star DB Jonathan Smith.

Later, Michigan St. would take its first lead of the game when PK Chris Roland connected on a 47-yard field goal with 3:58 remaining.

Tulane would get an opportunity to mount a drive to tie the game back up or re-gain the lead, however McBride's desperation toss on third down with less than three minutes to go was picked off by Logan near midfield.

Six plays later following the turnover, facing a third and 6 from the Tulane 36-yard line with under two minutes to play, the Spartans went for the kill. Bonner motioned Fry out of the backfield into the receiver position and Fry ran a deep route. Green Wave SS Terrell Faulk, playing in place of injured SS Jo Jo Price after Price suffered an injury in the team's regular season finale, was burned badly on the play and it resulted in a wide open 36-yard touchdown reception by Fry to all but put the game away at 24-14 with 1:44 remaining.

"I'll have to go back and look at the tape, but I believe Fry ran an out and up, and given the situation, Terrell bit on the short pass," said Wave defensive coordinator Karl Dunbar said of the former 4-star recruit and Huntington, New York native, who is a projected starter next season.

Spartans QB Mark Bonner hypes up the crowd following what ended up being a game-clinching 36-yard touchdown pass to RB Patrick Frye that made the score 24-14 with just 1:44 remaining.
"I thought Terrell and the defense had played a good game up to that point, but we didn't make a play when we needed it the most."

Tulane would not go away easily, and mounted a 7-play 77-yard drive that culminated with a 3-yard touchdown run by McBride with 1:04 remaining, his second touchdown run on the day. However, Spartans WR Bobby Williamson would recover the ensuing onside kick attempt, enabling his team to run out the rest of the clock on kneel downs.

The story of the game for Tulane was its offense's inability to slow down the Michigan St. pass rush, led by sophomore DE Pierre Green's 3 sacks as well as a pair of sacks each from junior MLB Eric Knox and true freshman OLB Jeremy Clemens.

"We've had a tough year this year with pass pro and the situation really took on another form today. They blitzed us from all angles and we never found an answer for it," said Geezy, whose team's 61 sacks allowed were the most in the FBS this season and are also the most ever given up by the Wave during his tenure (Missouri is the next closest this season, with 55 given up on the year).

"Our blocking up front was piss poor. We're going to have to take a long look at the tape and figure out what went wrong today and what we wrong in that area this season. We only gave up 29 sacks just two years ago back in 2022, so this was really just unacceptable."

Tulane ends its season with a 9-4 record despite coming into the year with national title aspirations. The team's 9 wins marks the first time since 2011, when the team finished 8-5 during Geezy's second year in New Orleans, that the Green Wave will have fewer than 10 wins. The loss also marks only the third time since 2012 that Tulane did not either win its conference or win a bowl game in the postseason. Despite several key injuries this season, including that of starting senior QB Bryce Allen (94 ovr) as well as RB Tony Tompkins (80 ovr), who played for the first time in several weeks in Wednesday's bowl but was mostly ineffective, Geezy was not willing to accept excuses.

"Overall, we're disappointed in how this season ended obviously," said the veteran head coach who only has two seasons remaining on his contract and some speculate may be on the hot seat.

"There are a lot of areas to fix and what's unique about college football is that you don't necessarily get an opportunity to find that quick-fix immediately the next off-season. We still have to see what the winter signing period brings, but it isn't likely that Superman is walking through that door. We have a lot of messes to clean up this off-season, such as pass protection, the kicking game, as well as our run defense, and we're anxious to get to it.

"We are set to lose a lot of an awful lot of talent after an already-disappointing year, so we have some critical work ahead of us."

As confetti rains from above, senior FS Brian Malone leaves the field in disappointment following his final career game with Tulane.

A fireworks display lit up the sky in the pregame at Raymond James Stadium.

Michigan St. players ran onto the field ready to prove that they're capable of knocking off a perrenial SEC power.

Redshirt freshman QB Jimmy McBride was able to turn the corner and race past the defense on this career-long 60-yard touchdown run that made the score 14-0 in the second quarter.

True freshman OLB Sean Williamson's second quarter sack capped off a dominant first half for the Green Wave defense. Williamson finished his rookie season with a team-high 6 quarterback take-downs.

Spartans true freshman OLB Jeremy Clemens finished the game with two of Michigan St.'s whopping 13 sacks of McBride.

Despite a slow start, Michigan St. QB Mark Bonner picked apart the Green Wave secondary in the second half and finished 17 of 25 for 271 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Green Wave true freshman FB J.J. Williams continued to be a factor down the stretch this season, finshing with a game-high 87 rushing yards, including this 63-yard gain on an option pitch in the second half.

Michigan St. RB Patrick Fry burned Tulane SS Terrell Faulk for this back-breaking 36-yard touchdown that made the score 24-14 with under two minutes remaining. Fry finished the day with 103 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns.

Tulane true freshman WR Adam Lawson's 37-yard reception with under a minute remaining set up a late touchdown for the Green Wave that cut his team's deficit to 24-21, but it was too little too late as the Spartans would recover the ensuing onside kick and run out the rest of the clock on kneel-downs.

Faulk, a projected starter next season, exits the Raymond James Stadium playing field knowing that his pivotal coverage bust in crunch time cost his team a shot at a 13th straight double-digit win season.

Michigan St. QB Mark Bonner jumped into the arms of RG Jonathan White during the Spartans' post-game celebration.
