You'll probably want to check the reviews for both. I'm actually going to pick-up M17 tomorrow from Lamestop. Got cold feet on buying M18, so I'll settle for M17 since I haven't played Madden in almost 5 years. And what the hell, I can spare $10 for a used copy.

M17 has quite a few Franchise features that M16 doesn't, such as practice squads and player editing. It also introduced a lot of new player equipment (Speed Flex helmets, one armed sleeves, current cleats) and has, in the opinion of most, better commentary.

One advantage that M16 has in the gameplay department, however, is that mobile CPU quarterbacks scrambled fairly often (IIRC).

This pretty much nails it. I also think in general qb AI was better in '16 and they weren't as robo getting high completion pcts off checkdowns.'18 has some of these same issues.

I really wanted to like '17 better because of the advantages but was always conflicted between the two.

Wasn't 16 filled with sack issues? Couldn't finish a game without 5+ sacks on the opposing QB.

I think both games are very solid. 17 has better franchise features, and far better commentary but 16 has the better CPU QB AI in general.

I don’t think you will be disappointed in either game.

I don't know how much both of them cost at Gamestop but '16 has to be really low. If they're both like $20 combined I'd say buy them both and see. There are very good slider sets for each from here.

Thanks for the responses. Wasn't their problems with player confidence going to 99 and ruining CFM ? If so, can this be fixed/remedied ?

What about zone coverages ? I am going to use two-controller work around and figure zone is busted in madden 16. I thought madden 17 made major upgrade in this area.

I'll always keep '16 because I'm a big Peyton Manning fan and that's the last Madden he's in.
