Pretty impressed with The Journey
I feel like other EA titles an 2K/VC can take note of this story mode. Because its the only one that isn't hokey and lame. The story is good, because the writing is good. The acting is good also. Alex and the people around him feel like real people. The mode overall is much improved over last years. Not that I didn't like last years, but this years is for me the best story mode in any sports game thus far. I haven't finished it yet, just started chapter 4. But its been very good so far.

Still haven't played this year's story yet, but Longshot in Madden 18 was very enjoyable. EA seems to be headed in the right direction for story modes.

Re: Pretty impressed with The Journey
I find it amazing that Longshot supposedly took 4 years to make and it's a pile of crap in comparison to The Journey. Part 2 was seemingly done in a year, and its vastly superior to any story mode I've ever played in a sports game. Part 1, last years game, I didn't actually think was that great. But this year. Man I wanted even more. Can't wait for next years continuation!Comment

Re: Pretty impressed with The Journey
whats actually the sense of the journey? you follow the life of an fictional character and if the journey ends, it ends and you move on with other game modes?!
it's nothing like nba2k mycareer or ist it?!Comment

Re: Pretty impressed with The Journey
It's OK. After playing through the NBA 2k 'Prelude' demo I found a lot of it to be embarrassingly bad. In the Journey I still feel like there are things that can be improved upon. I wish it was more than the same linear path you follow. This year you can make some decisions that will have impact but I just wish there was more of that. Like I decided on this why couldn't I have had a choice in that? And some cut scenes I feel like end sooner than I expected and I wonder why. The acting is actually pretty decent. You can customize your character now which is a nice improvement. I haven't played through it all yet, I'm about midway through chapter 3 so I guess I'll give more thoughts as I progress.Comment

Re: Pretty impressed with The Journey
One of my few gripes is that (slight spoiler below, but it was revealed in one of The Journey trailers so it may not be super spoilery):
SpoilerIn FIFA 17, you pick a Premier League team and then it shows Hunter as a little kid growing up as a fan of that team, saying it's his dream to play for them, etc. This year, you get to a point where Hunter talks about how it was always his dream to play for Real Madrid. Little things like that tell me EA didn't have a real long-term plan for this series...they're just kinda taking it one "season" at a time.
I'm a sucker for character customization, so I love that they gave us the ability to give Hunter new haircuts, outfits, and tweaks to his kit.
I assumed that I wouldn't bother with this mode this year and just stick with Career Mode and some Pro Clubs, but I like what I'm seeing so far.NFL: Bills
NBA: Bucks
MLB: Cubs
NCAA: Syracuse
Soccer: USMNT/DC United

Re: Pretty impressed with The Journey
More or less, yeah, you'll be able to return to Hunter's career in FIFA 19. I couldn't stand the idea at first, but I'm starting to view it essentially as a TV show. The way they introduce you to FIFA 18's The Journey basically gives off that same vibe too...a "Last season on The Journey..." and then a montage of all the main plot points. I didn't like The Journey in FIFA 17 very much, but I'm impressed with what they've done in 18 so far.

One funny thing from mine, and I guess I will spoiler tag itSpoilerin the cut scene just before you play your last game at the club, one of the players in the background is giving you a dirty look. My Hunter players for Liverpool and the player giving him dirty looks was none other than Mr. Coutinho himself. Classic!PSN ID: InhocmarkComment

Re: Pretty impressed with The Journey
Is there a way to Player Lock as Hunter in the Journey, or do I have to play as the entire team?

Re: Pretty impressed with The Journey
I'm on chapter 6, nearly done.
Here is something that annoys me though.
Spoiler
I play my Hunter as a CAM. When choosing between PSG, Atletico or Bayern, I chose PSG to teamup with Neymar, Cavani and Mbappe. However...EA has forgotten to include Mbappe to the PSG squad in The Journey, so he ends up still playing for Monaco. Something to keep in mind when choosing your club, guys.Comment

Re: Pretty impressed with The Journey
i cant get over the sad fact that u cant play as ur own character
so i havent played it even in fifa 17 but i do keep hearing praises for the mode...
another complaint i hear a lot is that its very scripted, so playing matches isnt fun because ur limited to like 3 goals max or soComment

Re: Pretty impressed with The Journey
I think it’s still worth it. Season 1 was a lot less enjoyable, IMO. I can highlight the major plot points in this spoiler:
SpoilerAlex Hunter is a young English lad who lives with his single mother and paternal grandfather, who was a legendary player at -insert club chosen here- and you’re trying to follow in his footsteps. His father, a former player himself who’s career abruptly ended due to injuries, abandoned them when Alex was at a young age and went to live in the United States. The gameplay starts with you participating in an exit trial for -insert club name here depending on which team you chose as Alex’s favorite team- with your friend Gareth (Gaz) Walker. There, you meet Danny Williams, another young prospect who thinks he’s all that and a bag of chips and talks some smack. You perform in the exit trial (which is a trial for players who are ageing out of the youth program) and make the team (no matter how poorly you do). You hire an agent named Michael, who’s a typical sleezeball agent. Then.. You play in the preseason, and a handful of games in the premier league season, before getting loaned out to one of 3 teams in the Championship, (you are loaned out regardless of performance, like you can cheat and literally score 100 goals in five games and still be loaned out) those 3 teams are Aston Villa, Newcastle United, and Hull City (the 3 that got relegated after the 15-16 season). Your buddy Gaz, is not loaned out and becomes the starting striker on whatever team you chose. You play a good chunk of games in the championship, where you meet and become good friends with Danny Williams (the smack talker who flared out of the EPL) and then you finally get called back up. In the meantime your buddy Gaz has become a diva, and your first game back is his last as he forces a transfer move to -insert rival club based on your club here-. You play out the rest of the EPL season starting from January and can win the league or not, doesn’t affect the outcome. You eventually end up in the FA Cup against Gaz’ team and regardless of whether you win or lose he tries to apologize for his antics and explain that it all went to his head, until he sees your new best friend Danny Williams pull up and then he complains about how you’re hanging around with the guy who made fun of you before storming off. Anyways there’s a lot of filler (there were a lot of cutscenes) that I’m not listing but these are the main plot points. The first ‘season’ ended with your dad unexpectedly showing up outside the stadium and you shrugging him off as you go onto a team bus.Comment
