Washington QB Keith Price celebrating one of his 6 touchdowns of the game

Long day at the office as California remains winless

SEATTLE, WA -- Another 400+ yards passing performance from senior quarterback Keith Price helped the Huskies ease past California 42-27, bringing Washington to 6-2 on the season, 4-1 in the Pac-12. Even the big yardage gained by Golden Bears sophomore receiver Bryce Treggs could not help his team, as his 217 yards and two touchdowns were more than offset by the 4 interceptions thrown by backup quarterback Austin Hinder, as usual California starter Zach Kline was still unavailable for the game.

Price turned on the jets during the second quarter with three touchdown passes, two of which hit junior wideout Kasen Williams, with the other going to junior tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins. With a 35-6 lead at halftime, the Huskies never looked back, even if they let down on the gas during the latter half of the game, allowing the Bryce Treggs show to go on.

"We actually didn't play a really good game defensively, I know we took the ball away from them 5 times, which is usually a good indicator, but we gave way too much space to guys like Treggs and (Chris) Harper, and they burned us for more than 300 yards between the both of them," coach Sarkisian said after the game. "We need to identify the plays and respond better, because it's not every Saturday that you get to allow over 450 yards through the air and still come out with a win."

The Huskies will have a week off next week, before hosting the 2-5 Colorado Buffaloes on November 19 at Husky Stadium, who themselves will be playing away at UCLA on November 2nd. They are coming off a 26-14 loss against Arizona, and will be looking to turn their fortunes around, having lost their last 5 games, and not winning any conference game this season.

Washington running back Bishop Sankey (#25) rushing against Colorado defenders

Huskies overcome bad start and triumph over Buffaloes

SEATTLE, WA -- It almost looked like an upset in the making after the first quarter, as the Buffaloes held a 10-0 lead and managed to shut down the FBS's top passing attack, but the Huskies rallied and scored 35 unanswered points to finally record their 7th win of the season, sending Colorado home with a 35-10 final score.

The turning point came early in the second half, as the score was still 10-7 in favor of Colorado. Buffaloes punt returner Kenneth Crawley fumbled on his punt return reception, giving the ball back to Washington cornerback Gregory Ducre at his 32-yard line, and from there on, the Huskies didn't look back. A quick drive ended with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Price to junior tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins and made the score 14-10 for the locals.

Washington quarterback Keith Price had somewhat of a bad day at the office, gaining only 253 yards through the air (after his back-to-back 400+ last two games), but junior running back Bishop Sankey more than made up for the lost yardage, amassing 149 yards on the ground on 25 carries, and adding a touchdown.

"We didn't have the start I was envisioning, so that will be something to address this week in practice, but I'm proud of the way the kids responded after that. They didn't lose their calm, came back to making and completing basic plays, and it all went down from there," coach Sarkisian said after the game. "We'll still need to up our game for the next games on the schedule, particularly our openings, but knowing the guys won't let down when the going starts to get rough, I'm confident we can do just fine in the coming games."

A tough test awaits the 7-2 Huskies next week, as they'll be visiting the UCLA Bruins (7-2), who lost to the Arizona Wildcats 24-21 this week. This will undoubdtedly be one of the tougher tests this season for Washington.

Mistakes sink Huskies; UCLA pound the ball to a 45-35 victory

LOS ANGELES, CA -- Two dropped passes, on two separate fourth down conversion attempts stopped Washington's win streak at three yesterday, as the Bruins came out victorious on a 45-35 score. Wide receiver Antavius Simms and running back Jessie Callier mishandled two crucial passes late in the game, as the Huskies were attempting a comeback against the #9 Bruins, and Washington ultimately fell short, despite a record 533-yard performance by quarterback Keith Price.

It was UCLA's quarterback Brett Hundley, though, that dictated the match, with 421 total yards and 6 touchdowns by himself (2 through the air and 4 on the ground). It didn't help that Washington lost their starting running back Bishop Sankey to an injury early in the first quarter, and it looks like he'll be ok for next week's matchup against Oregon State.

"Pretty much the only thing that worked for us tonight was the passing game," coach Sarkisian commented, "we were awful on the ground, and our defense was simply not there. We had one of the best run defense in the nation, and they tore through it like a hot knife through butter. I won't make any more comments, but you can be sure that the kids will be on the practice field pretty early tomorrow. There's simply no room for this kind of performance this late in the season."

The now 7-3 Huskies will travel again for their next game, as they'll be facing Oregon State (6-4), who are coming off a 31-12 loss against Arizona State. That loss against UCLA seriously hurts Washington's chances at a berth in the Pac-12 championship game, and needless to say they'll fall in the Top 25 Rankings that will be updated next week.
