Does anyone use custom playbooks and a second controller in Play Now games?

I have been having an issue with Madden 18 crashing when using that process.
Here is what I do:
I created offensive and defensive playbooks and uploaded them to Madden Share.
I downloaded the rosters on another profile on my PS4
I go back to my main profile and enter the game.
I sign in to the other profile using a second controller
I change the playbooks for the second controller team
I change the playbooks for my first controller team
I enter the game
Before the kickoff I pause the game and go to controller select and move the second controller to the middle (CPU control)
I then play the game
At some point during the game, the game crashes. There seems to be no pattern as to when the game crashes. Sometimes it is after a play, sometimes on the play select screen, sometimes just before a play starts. But is crashes EVERY game with this method.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

I have used this method in both M16 and M17 with no issues at all.
