2018 could well be the toughest seasons in Wildcats history. No longer a bottom dweller in the SEC after finishing last season with a 9-4 record, not only will the heaps of more expectation way heavily on the young shoulders of the players in Lexington but it was also fall onto the coaching skills of the youngest head coach in college football Lincoln Riley who took the reigns as the Wildcats head coach when Mark Stoops decided to do the dirty and move onto Pittsburgh. Just to make things better the scheduling gods have decided to throw in road trips to #8 Auburn, #7 Ohio State, #21 Georgia, #17 Vanderbilt, oh and #1 Tennessee that ontop of home games with #13 Notre Dame, #14 LSU and #5 Florida giving the Wildcats college footballs most toughest schedule as voted by the associated press.

Previewing the Kentucky Offense in 2018:

Not only will Kentucky's offense be under the guidance of new offensive coordinator Jay Boulware who comes in with Lincoln Riley from Oklahoma, it returns only five starters from last season. The Wildcats had college footballs No. 6 ranked offense at the end of last season and it will be down to the play calling abilities of new head coach Lincoln Riley to continue the improvement of this offense in 2018.

Brandon Dixon returns under center as a true sophomore after finishing last season with a QB rating of 150.1 as a true freshman, he passed for 3134-yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in what as an impressive campaign for the first year player. Dixon was asked by Riley to add weight and boost his strength, the quarterback obliged and will come into the new season at 215 lbs over the 205 lbs he played at last season. Dixon's backup will be between third year sophomore Gunnar Hoak and incoming four star recruit Miles Madison.

The biggest loss for the Kentucky offense came with the departure of all time leading rusher Stanley Williams who at points last season carried this offense through some tough games. Dixon is the only ball carrier left from last season who had more than thirty carries, however that isn't to mean there isn't a potential stud waiting in the wings for this offense this season. Malik Dixon, brother of the Wildcats quarterback was a high profile capture for the Wildcats recruiting class coming in from Cardinal Mooney High School as a four star recruit and its pretty much confirmed that Dixon will be the Wildcats feature back in 2018 with sophomore Corey Booth sharing the carries.

Like at running back the Wildcats receiving core will be pretty much fresh faced, only Swae Jones-Hall and tight end C.J. Conrad were key features in the offense last season but with the addition of stud high school recruit Jaylon Brown, who many believe to be the most polished wide out to come out of high school since Julio Jones and last years top signing Jacoby Shaddox this Wildcats offense possesses one of its most talented receiving lineups on paper that this school has ever seen, add in the 6'6" frame of senior Kayuane Ross who has improved dramatically this spring and this will be enough to give anyone nightmares.

The offensive line will see three new starters in Jervontius Stallings at left guard, George Asafo-Adjei at right guard and true freshman Aaron Charles at right tackle only Drake Jackson (C) and Landon Young (LT) played more than a single snap last year. Drake Jackson is the most talented offensive lineman in the SEC, he didn't give up a single sack in 2017 and was voted 1st team all SEC.

Previewing the Kentucky Defense in 2018:

The Kentucky defense may have lost the likes of Matt Elam and Courtney Love and likes its offense will be under the control of a new coordinator in Chrs Rumph.

Along with that Rumph will a the forefront of the task of switching the Wildcats from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense, a task he has only been working on for a few short weeks.

The Wildcats secondary will be much more improved this season that it was last year, to be honest it cant get any worse than it was. Senior's Chris Westry and Derrick Baity both earned pre-season all american honours at cornerback along with safety and fellow senior Marcus Walker. The secondary is the most experienced unit on this defense with seven seniors and a junior in its depth chart; Rumph also stated how excited he was to see what sophomore Jacob Coley could do in this defensive backfield.

With team captain Jordan Jones returning for his senior season after a junior campaign the finished early this Wildcats linebacking core got a massive boost as it switches schemes, even with the shorter season it was Jones who recorded the second most tackles for a Wildcats linebacker behind Courtney Love. Jones will lineup across from another senior in Denzil Ware whose shift from defensive end to linebacker last season proved a master stroke and the player adapted quickly recording four sacks last year. Inside these two it's pretty much an open field right now, junior Kash Daniel hasn't seen any playing time in his three years but could well be the most talented inside guy this defense has; sophomore Roland Walker is the fastest linebacker on the roster but his lack of experience like Daniel could prove costly inside a new defensive scheme. Look for this defense to turn there eyes to seniors Eli Brown, Josh Allen, and Jordan Bonner to fill gaps.

Senior defensive end Adrian Middleton is the only returning defensive lineman who recorded more than one sack last year (6) and with his 6'3",
307 lbs frame he is the perfect fit at defensive end for Chris Rumph. True freshman Tanner Avery has made the expected switch to defensive end and his combined speed/strength combo will be enough for him to win the second defensive end spot ahead of senior Kengera Daniel, watch out for Avery to be a stud on this defensive line this year. Inside those two, junior Ja'Quize Cross and freshman Kenard Smith will bolster the 3-4 defense.

Previewing the Kentucky Special Teams in 2018:

Austin MacGinnis is now gone and the Wildcats will turn to the legs of redshirt freshman kicker Jonathan Johnson, who an unproven comodity in college football has one of the strongest legs we have seen going into next season. Grant McKinniss downed 14 punts inside the 20 yard line last season, that was just under 50% of all his punts throughout the whole season as a sophomore, the Wildcats might be better on offense and McKinniss could be used less this season but expect him to continue with the same sort of numbers in 2018.

The return game was much improved last season with freshman Corey Booth and expect the running back now a sophomore to continue on with his returning duties this season.

        Final Analysis

The strength of the Wildcats schedule is scary and with a fairly inexperienced group on both sides of the ball this could be an up and down season. There is plenty of talent and it could well be the most talented roster this school has ever seen on paper but that has to translate onto the field of play, if it does then the Wildcats could prove a tricky opponent for any school they face on this schedule in 2018.

First season in Lexington is going to be rough for Riley with that schedule and so many guys without in-game experience.

This schedule is brutal. I have had a scout through the rest of the pre-season top 25 and it is definitely the toughest schedule out of all of them. Lets just hope the young talent we have can get us through.

RETURNING CHAMPS IN AT NO.2 WITH TENNESSEE LEADING THE WAY

Virginia Tech won it all last season when they took down Oklahoma 34-27 in the College Playoff Final to win the schools first National Championship title however according to voters that wasn't enough to see the Hokies come into pre-season as the No.1 school that goes to Tennessee for the second year on the bounce despite the Volunteers finishing last season 10-2. Butch Jones' men wont find it easy though to keep hold of that ranking, the Vols face #12 Texas A&M and #5 Florida in the first three weeks of the season after a week two travel to Ole Miss.

Although Auburn lost only one game last season in the SEC championship game the Tigers have been suprisngly positioned at the No. 8 spot in the Top 25 behind the likes of Texas (6) and Ohio State (7). There is plenty of questions though as the College Football season draws closer, can the likes of Alabama (20) and USC (11) live up to their pre-season hype and play a major role in the Championship picture of will both schools fade off early like they have done for the last two seasons?

There are more questions than answers right now, but don't worry: The start of the season is just a few weeks away.

Tennessee come into the pre-season as the favourites to go all the way after being handed the No. 1 position in the top 25. Butch Jones' men are now a whole season removed from their 2016 national title winning season but they have one of the best quarterbacks in college football in Quinten Dormady who threw for 3352-yards and 33 touchdowns last season and the senior quarterback will continue to have the pleasure of throwing passes to Preston Williams, Jauan Jennings and Tyler Byrd despite the loss of last years leading receiver Josh Malone to the NFL. Jalen Hurd maybe gone like Malone but Butch Jones done the right thing a put in the stepping stones for his eventual replacement when he recruited the best high school prospect in Stefon Cummings, this kid has elite talent and expect him to be the Volunteers top ball carrier ahead of juniors Carlin Fils-Aime and John Kelly.

The Volunteers defense is scary good led by senior's linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr and cornerback Rashaan Gaulden. Evan Berry spent last season out injured but look for the safety to have a massive impact on this years defense, the kids faster than a lot of receivers in College Football.

As we have already stated it was the Hokies who won it all last season but to do it again this year they will have to do it without both their coordinators from last season and their star quarterback in Jerod Evans. Evans replacement should be sophomore Josh Jackson who has made only 28 passing attempts in his career and if Jackson should struggle then head coach Justin Fuente will have to turn to either Chad Carroll, Ernest Rhodes or Tajun Ross who are all freshman. It isn't all doom and gloom though on offense with the return of running back Travon McMillian who rushed for 1315-yards and 15 touchdowns last year he also earned MVP honors in the championship game where he rushed for two touchdowns and 146-yards and new offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarraocca must lean on the senior a lost this season.

Defensive ends Vinny Mihota and Trevon Hill will anchor a defensive line that also includes All-American defensive tackle Tim Settle, the three combined for 18 sacks last season and like their offense the defense will lean on these three in what is a very new, fresh faced unit.

Finally the Washington Huskies are earning the pre-season credentials that there last two seasons have warranted. The Huskies missed out on the top five last season despite making it to the championship game but in 2018 they come in at No. 3.

Jake Browning and Myles Gaskin are absolute studs at that is represented with both being hot Heisman favourites; Gaskin just missed out on the accolade last year. Myles Gaskin had 18 rushing touchdowns in 2016 on his way to picking up the Doak Walker award at the end of the season and the senior could well be the best running back in College Football this season even ahead of Joe Mixen (Oklahoma) and Travon McMillian (Virginia Tech).

It will be on defense where the Huskies will have some kinks to work out in 2018. Vita Vea, Greg Gaines, JoJo McIntosh and All-American cornerback Jordan Miller are the only returning starters to this defense this year who took a massive hit this off-season.

Last years Oklahoma Sooners lost to Virginia Tech in the championship game and will have to go again without their best player in quarterback Baker Mayfield. Kyler Murray who like Mayfield came to the Sooners as a transfer has the tools on paper to be a solid replacement but hasn't good the experience nor the surrounding talent that Mayfield had last season although leading pass catcher tight end Mark Andrews is back and he will once again be a massive target for this offense, thankfully the Sooners offensive line boosts two all american offensive tackles this season in Dru Samia and Orlando Brown Jr. and these two will help the new quarterback in pass protection.

Other than Marquise Overton the Sooners are fresh faced along the defensive line with two sophomore starters in Eric Jackson and Amani Bledsoe at defensive end, but this isn't to say the pairing isn't ready. Junior Jordan Parker is the best shutdown corner in the Big XII and will look to build on the five interceptions he had as a sophomore.

Florida on paper could be one of the most talented SEC rosters this season and their offense possess a fair amount of NFL talent. Running backs Jordan Cronkrite and Jordan Scarlett combined for close to 2000-yards rushing last season and the Gators have both back for their 2018 championship push, under center should be senior Luke Del Rio who threw 26 touchdown passes last season but he has a slight shoulder injury coming into spring that may keep him out for the first few weeks and thus the Gators will turn to sophomore Feleipe Franks should Del Rio not be able to go. Receiving core Tyrie Cleveland, Freddie Swain and Dre Massey all have Olympic sprinter speed and behind those three there's Josh Hammond and freshman Antonio Hawthorne who like them have bags of speed.

If this Gators team was based on speed alone then they could literally run for the title. Linebacker's Kylan Johnson and Jeremiah Moore are both extremely talented and inside them is All-American David Reese, these three will be tough against any run game the Gators face this season.

                      2018 Conference Winner Predictions:

                      -- ACC: Clemson
                      -- Big XII: Texas
                      -- American: USF
                      -- Big Ten: Ohio State
                      -- Conference USA: FIU
                      -- MAC: Western Michigan
                      -- MWC: Boise State
                      -- Pac-12: Washington
                      -- SEC: Florida

Damn bro I’m always so impressed with your graphics, you really set the bar high. That was a huge offseason for your Wildcats. A new era begins and I’m excited to see how Mr. Riley does against that scary schedule. Good luck against Auburn!

                                WEEK TWO

                                #22 KENTUCKY WILDCATS (0-0, 0-0)
                                AT.
                                #8 AUBURN TIGERS (0-0, 0-0)

AUBURN, Alabama -- One game in and Kentucky's new head coach Lincoln Riley is already off to a good start as the #22 Kentucky Wildcats upset the #8 Auburn Tigers, 24-6.

Kentucky's defense held #8 Auburn to just 277-yards of total offense and kept the Tigers out of the endzone all game. Under the watchful eye of new defensive coordinator Chris Rumph the Wildcats defense was able to force two interceptions on Auburn's Sean White, whilst holding the senior quarterback to just 135-yards passing on the day: This would be White's lowest accounted yards as the starting quarterback for Auburn.

Not only did Rumph's new attacking 3-4 defense stifle the quarterback and Auburn offensive coordinator A.J. Milwee for a solid four quarters they were able to keep Heisman hopeful running back Kerryon Johnson out of the endzone and pretty much "quiet" despite the senior rushing for 111-yards on 19 carries (Johnson averaged 135.6-yards per game last season), on top of that the Wildcats were able to find their way to Sean White on pretty much every play forcing him into some snap decisions; The Wildcats recorded two sacks on the day.

"We knew that if we went in there and executed on every down then we were as good as they were." Kentucky linebacker Denzil Ware said after the game. "This is a massive victory for this team and it will give all the young guys on this roster the boost we needed early for them to see that we are one of the best teams in the SEC."

Kentucky (1-0, 1-0) got off to a very quick start. Sophomore running back Corey Booth took his first carry of the game 33-yards to make the score 7-0 on the Wildcats opening drive and it wouldn't be long before the ball was back with the Kentucky offense. On the first Auburn drive Sean White would be picked off by Kentucky safety Mike Edwards handing the Wildcats good field possession that they simply was not going to pass up, the next drive ended with true freshman Malik Dixon taking the ball home for his first collegiate touchdown run, putting the Wildcats up 14-0 at the end of the first.

It wouldn't be long after that Dixon rushing touchdown before he saw his brother, quarterback Brandon Dixon find C.J. Conrad from 10-yards out to give the Wildcats a 21-0 lead. Auburn would finally put a marker on the game late on in the first half with a 19-yard Justin Cunningham field goal, the true freshman would then kick another after half-time but that was as good as it got for the Tigers before Johnathan Johnson's 40-yard field goal for Kentucky would be the last of the games scoring.

Kentucky's offense definitely had its struggles as they adjust to the new scheme set out by new head coach Lincoln Riley. Sophomore quarterback Brandon Dixon was sacked four times on the day with true freshman offensive tackle Aaron Charles struggling to contain Auburn's Marlon Davidson who picked up two sacks, on top of that Dixon missed a wide open Swae Jones-Hall gifting Carlton Davis the most simple of interceptions; Dixon would be picked off twice in the game finishing with 185-yards and a touchdown passing.

"There were clear signs that there is work to be done." Kentucky head coach Lincoln Riley told reporters after the game. "But we got the job done against a very good Auburn team in a game where nobody really had us down to win. Yes we looked rusty on offense, we may have scored twenty four points but it should have been a lot more, there were to many drives that stalled out, but when its all said and done we got the upset victory and the morale we will gain from that is massive."

The highlight for Kentucky's offense was its ability to move the ball on the ground, something they did so well under former head coach Mike Stoops. True freshman running back Malik Dixon would finish the game rushing for 81-yards and a touchdown on 17 carries with Corey Booth taking 6 carries for 69-yards and a touchdown.

Next week the Wildcats will remain on the road when they renew their heated rivalry with Louisville (1-0, 0-0). The Wildcats came out 34-24 victors in this match up last season with Brandon Dixon throwing three touchdown passes in the win. The Cardinals will come into the game off the back of a 28-14 win over LA Tech.
