Universe Mode finally headed in the right direction?

What it says my fellow OS'ers does it seem like Universe Mode is finally on track to the great mode it should be for us?

In my humble opinion yes it is. Tons more cut scenes, Promos and the like are leading me to feel we could have an amazing mode in just a few short years. Honestly I've never felt anywhere near like this about this mode, I've gotten the most fun over the years with it by just reorganizing all the shows and stars around and imaging what kind of universe that could create. But know with all the interaction going on it actually feels like my ideas are starting to come to light actually.

Obviously it's still got a lot of work ahead and plenty of bugs to remedy. But for the first time ever really the mode gives me hope...

I’m scared to do universe mode yet due to all the bugs I’m hearing.

I've just dabbled in it really been playing my career mainly. But yes it's buggy but a lot of what we've been asking for seems to be there in between. They got time to fix it in my opinion as i cant start mine until they make Angle, Batista, and the Hardyz DLC available.

Do you guys like having separate rosters for Raw and Smackdown? I'm not sure I like the idea. I keep my roster fairly small. Not sure I use enough guys to utilize 2 rosters. Hopefully it's not too much of a pain to modify universe mode so smackdown is back as a minor show if I decide to go that route..

Well you don't have to run 2 rosters to run 2 shows my man. You can just use the same roster and titles on both shows. Personally I love it though as I'm a late 90's early 2000's guy and without the competition between the 2 shows I would lose a lot of the great wrestling memories I have.

Right. Usually I keep my one roster pretty small and use Smackdown as the minor show for that roster, but I'm assuming by default Smackdown has a second roster in 2k18 right? I haven't looked yet. I guess I'm just dreading setting it all up haha.

I guess I just don't understand why you make smackdown a minor show?

What does it matter? You choose the roster. Just put all superstars you wanna use for universe into the RAW and SMACKDOWN, you can place superstars into two rosters. when you make your show is when you do this in the ROSTERS section. Now make Raw and Smacksown both MAJOR.

I’ve played with a single roster since universe was introduced.

I don't know if I'd say it's heading in the right direction, as it's still pretty bland, but I'm glad that I haven't had any major issues with it thus far.

Given, I haven't customized much except for rearranging the Raw and SmackDown rosters, and I don't book anything myself. I think that's where most of the issues are is when you actually try customizing the mode.

I also don't play any of it, I just watch the matches. I just finished the Payback PPV, so I've simmed 13 shows in total, and have only seen some smaller bugs. The CPU booking has been pretty good at this juncture.

I just need something like this, but more involved, in the future. I want to handle contracts and morale... stuff you'd see in a sports game franchise mode. Kind of dull just having the sandbox, at least it is for me after all these years.

The mode has felt very similar every year since 2K15. 2K hasn't made any huge game changing additions to the mode in the 4 iterations of the game they have been behind.

In the past there used to be issues when you would manually change things the CPU would book. Much like yourself I don't do manual booking either and let the CPU handle it and even then you get annoying things like same match-ups week in and week out.

I don't think you will see in-depth things like contracts and morale in a WWE game again. They had all that stuff in GM Mode back in the day but that sort of stuff feels really out of place in WWE as opposed to NBA 2K or Madden.

Does it really though? Aries and now Neville are both leaving or have left the WWE due to the way they were used. Add Cody Rhodes to that and you can see where keeping superstars happy or on the right path could make some sense.

Re: Universe Mode finally headed in the right direction?

At its best, WWE live television programming tells interesting stories about conflicts between various unique and compelling characters. To that end, Universe Mode has to tell good stories first and foremost to properly represent the WWE TV product.

Universe does an okayish job at that right now, but it's held back by stuff like shoddy and amateur promo writing and a lack of gimmicks and unique personalities. All the characters are more-or-less avatars for the same personalities which interact in prefab rivalry scripts (which haven't changed much over the course of this series' history, a big reason why the mode feels as stale as it does). Though the game has personality traits per-character, I've never felt like they've strongly impacted what I've seen play out on the screen. The Rock acts the same as Heath Slater, and that absolutely shouldn't be the case.

To this end, I don't think GM features help the mode in any way, shape, or form. The only contract negotiations which ever take place on WWE television programming are the ceremonial match contract signings, and those aren't really contract negotiations as much as they are match hype pieces. There's also the Superstar Shakeup, but that's again not a negotiation as much as it is a story.

I'm surprised people actually do the Universe Mode when you can just do your own shows with the exhibition matches.

Quick question....is it possible to have an online universe mode? Me and my friend like to make matches and play but we live farther from each other so online is the only option. We would make our own cards and play them out. Is this possible in 2k18? If not universe mode, is it possible just doing online matchups where entrance is on and created wrestlers are available?

                            Any help is appreciated.

Haven't played a whole lot of online in the WWE 2K games ever, but I believe that this is possible.
