I'll give you that one, I liked the episode's themes but it was not necessarily my favorite at the time. I think what I liked about it though was (besides the fact the kid actor is amazing)...
As far as this new episode, I loved it but one thing that I loved most about it was (not a real spoiler at all that has anything to do with the episode itself but oh well)...
Spoiler
... no flashback sequences!
And it's not that I don't like the flashbacks, but they got in the way a little bit of saying, "Of course, every little thing on this show is a connection to Shaun's past, and his connections are going to be his reasons for being a better version of himself." Not all flashbacks are like that though, and I think the best use of flashback so far is the one that was shown after the fact about his past girl kissing experiences, but it was nice that we got as maximized the 43-minute run time in the present and weren't bogged down with some connection.
The other good thing about it is that it tells us that not every episode will have flashbacks. It honestly was getting to the point that I would be expecting a flashback, and then when it would show up my eyes would roll from the fact that I was pretty much calling that it was happening. Now, if episode #7 has one I won't be doing that anymore, because I don't necessarily expect them now anymore... but not having any was kind of nice to me. Maybe they were written in and edited out though for time, who knows. I'm just glad that I'm not going to be expecting that every episode even if this show lasted 25 seasons.
One thing I'm not a fan of in this show is that they do the: "Previously on..." thing for it in the beginning. That sounds small and stupid that I don't like it, but one of the main things I don't like about it is they don't show those to catch people up necessarily, but rather to bring up what topics may occur in the episode itself. Kind of takes away the surprise from anything that will happen regarding the plot at that point (or if there
is shock value there, I'm now expecting it, like the brother thing).
