Anyone ever seen a "smothered contested " go in
Honestly I have never seen a contest shot called smothered until yesterday. The 15 foot jumper went in. Mind you I was Jerry Lucas. That's the first time I saw smothered pop up. I was just wondering how common it was

Off the top of my head I remember Kawhi Leonard getting one...
It feels like I dont see smothered all that often anymore though..

Re: Anyone ever seen a "smothered contested " go in
I only get them at the end of shot clocks because I rarely take contested shots and I've never seen one go in.
Something cool I learned though is, shot defense isn't just based off how close you are. Longer, more athletic guys can contest vertically from a decent distance away. Yesterday I thought I had a wide open corner 3 with Unseld and Giannis was closing out and I got "smothered" even though he wasn't close enough to block it. It even missed short like actually required an arc adjustment to get it over Giannis.Comment

I mean it’s not like smothered releases never go in in the real NBA
Most of Tracy McGrady’s points on his famous 13 points in 33 seconds fun came off of smothered threes.Comment

People need to write what mode/difficulty/ and if it's a custom slider set they're playing on for anyone to work this out properly.Comment

Yeah that's way short players with short arms are pretty uselesess on DI only get them at the end of shot clocks because I rarely take contested shots and I've never seen one go in.

All the time. Especially when I've missed a bunch of wide open jumpers with good releases.
I'll get caught in one of those awkward animations where your player will pull a jumpshot when you're actually trying to input a dribble move, or when I go up for a long layup and instead get a shooting animation.
I'll cash those and a few times they've been greens.Comment
