    Layups dunks and put backs

I just started playing 2k18 and the shooting seems to be pretty nice and straight forward, but I seem to be missing something while attempting lay ups or put backs around the rim. They always seem to completely blow the shot. Sometimes real hard off the glass or it will just skip over the rim, but a very very low percentage of the time will it go in. I use the same button I use to take a jumper with is that wrong? Is there something I am missing?

Layups are timed, you wanna release it right before the vibration on your controller. Floaters are timed, hook shots, post fades. Everything is about timing. Just practice more

It’s almost impossible for me to focus on a vibration in the heat of a game, especially for layups. I don’t ever feel it on green jumpers either .

nothing is automatic, just dont push the stick and immediately release thinking once the animation starts you are good.

Also, layups are a mess if you play on real shooting % instead of timing. Seems like they’re just as random/difficult as they are on timing. Complete bullocks.

In addition, I use real timing for free throws with the meter enabled, but the meter’s never there. CUH-RAP.

I wish you could play real % with meter and feedback as an option so you could practice different players’ shot animations real time. Then transition to full timing when you got it down. For franchise guys that would be awesome.

That doesn’t even make sense. You want to use real player % but have the feedback as if you’re using timing. Go to practise.

Not all of us have hours upon hours to dedicate to a fricking video game. Or WANT to. And yes, it does make sense. It would be a “getting to know you” option that allows people to practice on the fly and transition into timing. If you spent any substantial amount of time “practicing” to play a video game, well...

The problem is not layup timing, the problem is what 2k considers contested shots in the paint.

The ONLY aspect of timing that matters is an "excellent" release which will guarantee a make unless it is blocked. Everything else is like the games prior to 2k17. Everyone still seems to think timing is the main reason the shots aren't falling despite word directly from the devs that mistiming will not hurt you.

2k just made contested layups a WAY lower percentage shot without doing anything about the game considering a guy standing on the ground not altering the shot as good defense.

Sadly I can see your points from my experiences. This may explain at least 80% my rebounds and subsequents attempts are going to fail. Again sadly, playing enough games now, it's predictable.

It's a double whammy approach that 2K kills us with:
                  1. Frustrations: Missed short shot animations are too fake for taller players playing above the rim. Near the rim, how many times in-real-life do we see AD, Cousins, Deandre, etc. simply trying to lay the ball up multiple times instead of dunking. Contrarily, a CPU-driven opponent rarely gets multiple misses in the same sequence. My players will simply not raise their hands.
                  2. MyTeam dings: Not only do you not get the expected points from the inside. your overall shooting percentage takes repeated hits if/when playing MyTeam Domination.

I love this game and can only imagine how difficult it must be to program a quality basketball sim. That much as a caveat.

As a MyGM player exclusively, it’s frustrating to miss all these layups and close shots — PREDICTABLE, as you wrote — when the same thing doesn’t happen to your opponent. Very similar to running offensive sets: the CPU zooms around with precision and urgency setting up its plays while your own guys look like toked-up zombies when setting up yours.

I can continue to win by spamming the PnR on offense and playing good D, but I rarely get rewarded for playing beautiful O unless I nail a green release, which is rare. This is my major gripe with a game I love.

Another issue I've been having is consistently pulling off certain moves, mainly the hop step gather layup. For some reason I just havnt figured out how to do the hop gather on command, i only get the animation I want once in a blue moon. Any advise would be appreciated thanks.

I just wish my Shotcreating Playmaker would stop attempting ridiculous dunks @ the playground that aren't even in his dunk package.

I know people insinuated the park was arcade in years past. I never felt that way until this year, I have no control over my player.
