This should be a game the Huskies roll at home. Keep those turnovers down and breathe easy!

I'm actually a little concerned, because this team looks a little like the Illinois team we faced in our second game, and we had some trouble staying in front of the game until much later, even if we didn't turn the ball over that much.

They've got a great QB and speedy receivers that'll test our secondary, and another speedy player at RB that our linebackers will have to stop, and he's playing behind a good offensive line. Add to that their secondary which is quick, but we'll have to rely on their inexperience (with two of the starters being underclassmen) if we are to have a good day in the air.

Huskies running back Bishop Sankey (25) celebrating his 3rd TD of the game with teammates

Huskies open conference play on a 35-17 win over Arizona State

SEATTLE, WA -- Again, the game started somewhat slow for Washington, but they were able to limit the occasions for the Arizona State offense, and ultimately walked away from the field with their first conference win of 2014. The solid offensive play of running back Bishop Sankey, combined with a great defensive performance by the Huskies, left virtually no room to the Sun Deils after the first few drives of the game.

Sankey rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries, adding 15 more yards on two receptions before falling to an upper body injury midway through the fourth quarter. He'll be evaluated by the Washington medical staff during the week, but the word is that he'll be missing next week's matchup against Stanford, and possibly more. Washington quarterback Tommy Jacobs had a good day behind center, going 19/30 for 217 yards and two touchdowns, but more importantly, threw only one interception, after his four picks of last week.

"I felt good this week, even though it was our conference opener and that was a little added stress. We had a lot of time to prepare, and my discussions with the coaching staff helped me understand that I simply need to calm down, and execute the simple plays," Jacobs told us after the game. "Of course Bishop was again on fire today, and I could rely on him pretty much anytime we needed him to step up. With him being out for next week, it'll surely be tougher on each and every one of us, but I don't believe our game plan has to change that much. If anything, I'll simply get to throw more !"

Arizona State started the game fast, scoring 10 points in just over a quarter, but the Huskies' defense reverted back to their usual form and started recording more stops, allowing the offense to score four times before finally surrendering points to the visitors, with three consecutive scores coming on runs by Sankey. The Sun Devils weren't helped by the fact that starting quarterback Taylor Kelly suffered a concussion late in the second quarter, but it also meant that backup Michael Eubank, who orchestrated last season's almost-upset of the Huskies, would enter the game to replace him. Fortunately, Washington's defensive line didn't let him work his magic, limiting him to only 100 yards through the air on 26 pass attempts.

Washington will host the Stanford Cardinal next week, who are coming off a 26-20 win over Washington State, and are led by Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, running back Remound Wright, who recorded 251 all-purpose yards in the win over the Cougars.

Huskies tight end Michael Hartvigson (84) celebrates his go-ahead touchdown reception

Huskies stay undefeated as they handle #22 Cardinal 20-12

SEATTLE, WA -- Two touchdown passes by quarterback Tommy Jacobs in the second half finally helped Washington get past Stanford yesterday at Husky Stadium. As they were without senior running back Bishop Sankey because of a back injury, the Huskies turned to the air to provide them with the points they needed to emerge victorious.

Tight ends Michael Hartvigson and Austin Seferian-Jenkins both caught touchdown passes from Jacobs, while backup running back Jesse Callier came up with a thrid one on the ground, as the Washington defense once again had a great game, limiting their opponents to field goals only. Jacobs flirted with the 300-yard mark, going 25-for-37 and 281 yards with two touchdowns, but he was picked off twice.

"That's probably the worst thing about him (Jacobs) right now," coach Sarkisian told the press after the game. "On one hand, we have to work with him so he can lower the chances to get intercepted, but on the other hand, he's still a young quarterback and we have to understand that things like that happen to inexperimented players. He's making up for it in other parts of his game though, so we have to continue working with him on the lesser aspects of his game, to help him be the most complete player he can be."

Washington running back Dwayne Washington, who was starting this game in the place of the injured Sankey, picked up an injury of his own, and it looks like similar to Sankey's knock. "We'll have to look at the game tape to be sure, but it looks like he had the same thing happen to him as Bishop did. Maybe we're simply calling the wrong play at the wrong time, because he got injured in pretty much the same situation," offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau said after the game. His condition will be re-evaluated by the medical staff, but it doesn't look likely that he'll make the trip to Tucson next week.

The Huskies will play away from home for the next two weeks, first against Arizona on the 18th, and then against California on the 25th, before coming back home to play Utah on November 1st.

Huskies wide receiver DiAndre Campbell is tackled after getting to the endzone

Washington keeps the streak alive, defeat Arizona 27-17

TUCSON, AZ -- Three touchdown passes from Huskies' redshirt freshman quarterback Tommy Jacobs held the Wildcats at bay, and a great defensive performance yet again brought a sixth win in a row for the boys from Seattle. It took two plays on the opening Arizona drive for them to realize it was going to be a tough game, as their first pass attempt was broken up and a fumble on the second play led to the first drive for the Huskies, albeit a shortened one, which ended in a field goal.

More importantly for Jacobs, it was his first game in which he didn't throw an interception. "We worked a lot this past week on my decision-making mechanisms, and I was feeling good in practice, so it showed during the match. More often than not I was feeling a lot more confident in my throws, and the guys downfield helped me a lot by catching my passes, obviously. Now I simply have to go through the same process in each and every game I'm out there."

Bad luck struck again for the Huskies, early in the game this time, as running back Bishop Sankey fell again to an injury. He was getting back on the field after missing last week's matchup against Stanford, but he appeared to strain his shoulder on a play late in the first quarter. Adding to that the injury to Dwayne Washington which will make him miss the next game as well, Washington will have to turn to third-string running back Jessie Callier for the game against California next week.

On the defensive side of things, cornerback Marcus Peters finished the game with two interceptions on Arizona quarterback Anu Solomon, and the Huskies defensive front recorded 5 sacks, with four of them coming from Solomon's right side of the offensive line.

Washington's next game will be against the California Golden Bears next Saturday, who are coming off a heartbreaking 31-26 loss against divisional foe Washington State.
