Re: NBA 2K17 Freelance Offense Community Wiki

Is there any way to have your team space the floor differently in freelance pick-and-roll, depending on whether you use your center or power forward as the screener? As far as I can tell, your teammates will always space according to the freelance set you're running, even for set plays.

So, for example, if I have Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan and I set my team to 4 Out 1 In, I'm all good if I want to use Jordan as the screener, because then everybody else will spot up behind the three-point line while he rolls after the pick.

But if I want to use Blake as the screener, they'll still think they're supposed to space the floor 4 Out 1 In style, so now DeAndre is spotted up behind the three-point line, which is no good since he can't shoot for beans.

Even if you run a set play where, for example, it's a high pick-and-roll with the PF at the top, and the C stays near the basket, your freelance set will override that once the play actually starts happening, and the C will go back behind the three-point line in this instance (because I'm playing 4 Out 1 In).

I could just play 3 Out 2 In theoretically, but then if I want to use DeAndre as the screener, 3 Out 2 In will keep Blake from spotting up behind the three-point line, which mitigates my spacing by shrinking the floor, even though Blake can hit threes.

So it feels like no matter what, if I have one big man who can shoot threes and one who can't, and I want to have them both on the floor at the same time, I can only use one of them as a screener in a pick-and-roll situation (while still having proper floor spacing). That's pretty disappointing, because there are quite a few big-man duos in the league like this. Love/Thompson, Griffin/Jordan, Anderson/Capella, Ibaka/Valanciunas, Harris/Drummond, etc.
